Village Idiot was a middleweight robot built by Team Robot Village which competed in Seasons 3.0 and 4.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

It was a two-wheel drive, box wedge-shaped robot armed with dual, 12" diameter saw blades powered by a 4" Magmotor running at 24V with 1:1 reduction. Its two drive motors were run at 24V, with a 5:1 drive reduction to 5" Colson wheels. Village Idiot performed well in competition, reaching the Round of 16 in Season 3.0 and the Round of 32 in Season 4.0.

Village Idiot was set to be completely rebuilt for a theoretical Season 6.0, with two large toothed disks replacing the saws. It would compete alongside a heavyweight robot named Magnum VI, but this never came to fruition following the show's cancelation, and Village Idiot was instead upgraded for the live circuit.

Outside BattleBots[]

Village Idiot competed outside of BattleBots, notably in the Robot Conflict events hosted by Team Toad.

Between Seasons 3.0 and 4.0, Village Idiot fought in the first North Carolina Robot Streetfight, where it unbeaten during the event. According to records, it defeated Evil Con Carne, Maim, Category 3 and Two-Fisted. Village Idiot also won an end-of-competition rumble.[1]

In January 2002, Village Idiot competed at a farm event held in Alachua, Florida held by SERC. Here, it defeated Moebius before losing to Little Drummer Boy.

Later that year in December, Village Idiot fought returned for the third North Carolina Robot Street Fight. After defeating Black Widow and losing to Genesis, it would again beat Black Widow before beating Two-Fisted again, avenging its previous loss to Genesis and twice winning against Hoarf to win the event outright.

Village Idiot's last documented event was in 2003, where it fought at Battle at the Beach, losing its first battle to Red Square before defeating Red Menace and Super Skunk.

Robot History[]

Season 3.0[]

Village Idiot vs. Bang

Village Idiot's first match was against Bang. After the initial ram, some of the bolts in Bang were loosened, resulting in the chassis flexing. A second ram caused part of the robot to drag on the ground, reducing the robot's traction. In the end, Village Idiot won by knockout.

Village Idiot vs. Eye of the Storm

Village Idiot advanced to the next round, where it faced Eye of the Storm. Village Idiot won on a 30-15 judges' decision and advanced to the final preliminary round.

Village Idiot vs. Deb Bot

It next took on Deb Bot. Village Idiot won by knockout again and advanced to the TV rounds.

Here, Village Idiot fought Chiabot. Village Idiot got its saw blades underneath Chiabot and flipped it over. Chiabot was counted out and Village Idiot won by KO in just 58 seconds.

Village Idiot vs. Eraser

Village Idiot gets caught on the ramrods.

This win put Village Idiot to the Round of 16, where it faced Eraser. In the match, Eraser kept Village Idiot from hitting it with its saw blades. After Village Idiot gets caught on the ramrods, the batteries eventually fried and stopped moving. Eraser won by KO at 1:35 and Village Idiot was eliminated from the tournament.

Middleweight Royal Rumble

Village Idiot also participated the Middleweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. It tackled Bad Attitude, then Deadblow. It also went after Twin Paradox. It then started chasing Complete Control, then Bad Attitude. Village Idiot then got stuck in the spikes momentarily, but it eventually broke free. It then tried to attack T-Minus, then gets grabbed by Complete Control. SABotage got its flipping arm underneath the right side of Complete Control and flipped it onto its side along with Village Idiot. They both remained in this position for a while until SABotage rights them. Complete Control continued to hold Village Idiot hostage, using Village Idiot as a shield against other robots, then pummeling Village Idiot into the wall before letting go. In the end T-Minus was declared the winner.

Season 4.0[]

Complete Control takes Village Idiot to the killsaws.

Due to its seeding, Village Idiot was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 4.0, where it first fought Derek Young and Complete Control. Both robots moved around the arena and Complete Control managed to clamp into the front of Village Idiot. Complete Control took Village Idiot to the killsaws and Complete Control almost flipped Village Idiot. Village Idiot escaped and Complete Control attempted to clamp Village Idiot again from the side, but Village Idiot slid out. Village Idiot then pushed Complete Control onto the killsaws and later pushed Complete Control to the pulverizer, where Complete Control took one hit from the rear. Village Idiot and Complete Control were stuck together. Village Idiot pushed Complete Control from the side and took it to the killsaws again. The tip of Complete Control's lifting arm got stuck on the side of Village Idiot for about fifteen seconds and Village Idiot pushed Complete Control against the spikestrip. However, Complete Control's lifting arm got stuck on the front of Village Idiot and the match was stopped. Both robots were separated and the match resumed. Immediately, Village Idiot pushed Complete Control against the spikestrip and Complete Control almost got hit by the pulverizer twice. Complete Control pushed Village Idiot from the rear and took it to the killsaws. Suddenly, Village Idiot started smoking as Complete Control was pushing it from the rear. Complete Control went forward and charged backwards at the front of Village Idiot. Complete Control took the win by 30-15 judges' decision and Village Idiot was eliminated.
