Not to be confused with the Season 5.0 dropout of the same name.

Vertigo, formerly given the codename REDACTED, is a heavyweight competitor designed by Team HyperShock for BattleBots FaceOffs.

It is a four-wheel drive, invertible robot armed with a unique flipper weapon[1]. BattleBots co-founder Greg Munson originally confirmed the robot to be a 'mystery' build from a 'very popular team'.[2] and on October 5, 2023, the robot's name was confirmed to be 'Vertigo'.[3] Several days later, the HyperShock team were revealed to be behind Vertigo and it was revealed to be fighting Magnitude across the weekend of December 10-11, 2023.[4][5]

Vertigo's rough design was revealed at Orlando Maker Faire on November 4, 2023, showcasing a blank white look and the opportunity for attendees to draw their own design. The team also made a scaled-down model of the flipper mechanism, showcasing a Y-shaped linkage which forces the flipper open as the ram is powered. With flipper panels on both sides of the robot, this functions as a double-sided flipper, similar to the Robot Wars entry St. Agro and its live circuit successor, Maelstrom. On November 21, 2023, the team publicly confirmed the postponement of Vertigo's debut to an undetermined weekend in 2024. It would be replaced by HyperShock for its battles against Magnitude.

"Too much intervention from the universe, priorities had to change. Decided not to panic and compromise (any more), and focus on building it right, and safely, the first time..."
— Will Bales explains Vertigo's withdrawal[6]

In July 2024, Kyle Awner confirmed Vertigo would instead debut at BattleBots FaceOffs later in the year.

Trivia[]

  • 'REDACTED' is a phrase meaning to censor words and content, and has been used in BattleBots in the past to tease upcoming fights without breaking the NDA.[1]
  • Vertigo was originally set to compete in a BattleBots FaceOffs group containing Tombstone, Valkyrie and Orbitron before the team swapped both Vertigo and HyperShock around.
