Vanquish was a heavyweight robot from the built by Jack Tweedy of Team Nebula, which competed in BattleBots World Championship III.
It was a four-wheel drive heavyweight armored in AR500 steel and HARDOX ranging from 8-10mm in thickness, and fitted with a 6mm thick HARDOX 500 lifting wedge similar in design and functionality to that of Matt Maxham's Stinger, and weighing 60lbs in total. Vanquish struggled in its debut season, suffering a brutal knockout in its debut battle against Marc DeVidts and Icewave.
Despite the monumental rebuild and captain Jack Tweedy suffering with illness during filming, it returned for the USA vs. The World special, but lost to veterans Captain Shrederator. According to Jack Tweedy, Vanquish was plagued with issues as it was his first solo heavyweight build, stating its weapon had a tendency to "eat its own gearbox" when trying to lift opponents, as was the case in its debut battle.[1]
Vanquish did not enter future seasons of BattleBots, as Jack Tweedy returned for World Championship IV with Ragnarök. He was partnered by Tim Rackley, who competed with quarter-finalist Monsoon in the previous season. However, Ragnarök's sole victory came in the form of a 2v2 Tag Team exhibition alongside Monsoon, as it lost all four Fight Night battles during the main competition. The frame and drive setup of Vanquish was sold in November 2019 and in 2020, Jack Tweedy commenced work on an upgraded version called Vanguard. Pending travel restrictions, he hoped to compete in World Championship VII with this improved design. However, it is not known whether Team Nebula reapplied.
Vanquish was sold by Jack Tweedy after BattleBots, and currently resides with another former Robot Wars competitor, Nathaniel Poate.[2]
Outside BattleBots[]
Outside of BattleBots, Jack Tweedy is an established competitor on the UK scene, fighting with robots from 150g to 250lbs. He build a 3lb beetleweight robot called Toxin. which won 2nd place overall in the 2021 Chatham Challenge Belt event.
He drove a robot called Tanto for the unaired Robot Wars pilot in 2016, where it lost its melee which included Beta in its non-BattleBots identity, Basher. After not being selected to compete with Tanto under the name Nebula, joined Team Danby to compete as part of Apex in Series 10.

Vanquish vs. Icewave Vanquish's BattleBots debut came against veteran Marc DeVidts and Icewave. In the opening moments, Vanquish started well as it was able to tank the early hits from Icewave, as it was designed to do. However, as Icewave continued, one hit saw Vanquish lose drive on one side as it had torn into one of their wheels.Despite not being able to drive as well as before, Team Nebula pressed on, though Icewave's next hit was a devastating blow which saw Vanquish torn in half. This was the result of weak welds in the chassis, which gave way from multiple hits from Icewave.

Vanquish vs. Captain Shrederator However, Team Nebula were able to repair Vanquish in the final two days of filming and returned to fight Captain Shrederator in the USA vs. The World mid-season tournament. For this fight, Vanquish removed its upper arms and sported 200 decorative googly eyes on the wedge, applied by future teammate Tim Rackley, then of Monsoon. The fight began with neither side gaining an immediate the upper hand. Vanquish continued to lose googly eyes but received no other visible damage.Vanquish coerced Captain Shrederator into the corner and nearly under the pulverizer, before Captain Shrederator managed to escape. Vanquish then caught a big hit from Captain Shrederator and was sent flying, losing a wheel on impact. As they landed, it became evident that Vanquish was no longer mobile so it was counted out, giving Captain Shrederator the win by KO and 1 point for Team USA. |

"From the UK, if he was a serial killer, he'd be Jack the Flipper and he's about to bust you in your Sherlock Dome. Make some noise for VANQUISH!"
"Here to cause a Black Sabbath, you don't need Iron Man. You need VANQUISH!"
Trivia[]
- Vanquish was one of multiple robots to erroneously appear on the BattleBots website as a competitor for the 2019 season, despite confirmation that this was not the case.
- Vanquish was the first reboot era competitor to be split in half, courtesy of Icewave. Marc DeVidts' bot would do the same to HUGE in a future fight during the same season.
- Vanquish was one of many robots to feature a Team Toad sticker on the back, referencing Fuzzy Mauldin's robots.
- The clip of Jack Tweedy reacting after Icewave appeared to go in for another hit was actually edited in for dramatic effect. In the unedited fight, it happened at a different point in the match.
