Ultimo Destructo was a heavyweight robot built by Sean Irvin of Carnage Robotics, which competed in BattleBots World Championship II and III.
It was an evolution of their popular superheavyweight entry from Comedy Central era of BattleBots, called Techno Destructo. Throughout both its seasons, Ultimo Destructo boasted interchangeable weaponry which, by its second year, increased to a total of four wildly different configurations.
Dubbed a 'Swiss Army bot' by Sean Irvin, his robot could be armed with a flipping arm, a hammer, a vertical spinning disk or a horizontal bar spinner depending on their opponent. Each configuration had its own unique nickname: the flipper was called Weezo, the horizontal bar was called Sluggo, the vertical spinner was called Tazmo and the hammer was called Bozo. Ultimo Destructo struggled in its debut season, as it lost its first and only battle against The Ringmaster. As such, Carnage Robotics were unable to showcase their spinning weaponry until World Championship III.
The robot was rebuilt ahead of the following season, now featuring four-wheel drive and four separate weapon configurations. Despite the upgrades, however, the weapons proved to be unreliable in most of its fights, and the robot itself was noticeably slow. Although it did manage two wins from an unentertaining affair with Valkyrie and an unaired battle with Parallax, these were considered largely unimpressive by the judges, and Ultimo Destructo did not progress to the Top 16 after finishing the season 2-2.
Ultimo Destructo was officially retired after World Championship III, with Sean Irvin turning his attention to a new design called BoneSmasher. However, little is known about the robot, and no progress was posted on it. In 2022, the team announced that they would be making a new robot called Sawborg Destructo, but few updates were posted on the robot's progress after that.
Outside BattleBots[]
Ultimo Destructo was briefly on display in 2017, during the hiatus between World Championships II and III.

Ultimo Destructo vs. The Ringmaster Ultimo Destructo's first battle was against The Ringmaster. For this match, Ultimo Destructo used its flipper setup, which was reinforced with extra armor. According to Sean Irvin, a mishap during testing damaged the bolts on the back of the armor and the team struggled to fix or remove their back panel.Ultimo Destructo approached The Ringmaster, which got its spinner up to speed. On impact, its spinning ring tore away part of Ultimo Destructo's right wheelguard. Sean Irvin's robot tried to flip The Ringmaster, but missed and instead took a hit to its rear panel, peeling it away as it hit the screws. As The Ringmaster looked on, Ultimo Destructo struggled to escape the red starting square, allowing The Ringmaster to tear away the remainder of its damaged wheelguard. Now reduced to crab-walking across the BattleBox, Ultimo Destructo's drive chain had also come loose on that side, but the Rucker family's bot appeared content to dominate the middle of the arena. Almost a minute passed with neither robot making contact. This came to an end as The Ringmaster struck the back corner of Ultimo Destructo and damaged its master power switch. Despite its best attempts to show controlled movement, all Ultimo Destructo succeeded in doing was flipping itself over and demonstrating its ability to self-right. This was not enough to satisfy referee Michael Ayers and Ultimo Destructo was counted out. As it was not chosen to be a wildcard, Carnage Robotics were eliminated from the tournament. |
World Championship III[] |
Ultimo Destructo vs. Valkyrie Ultimo Destructo's first opponent in the new season was against newcomer Valkyrie. Before the fight started, they had their spinner motor fry on their vertical disk, Tazmo. They made a quick swap to their bar, Sluggo. The match started off relatively easy for Ultimo Destructo as Valkyrie wasn't spinning up its weapon and was actually struggling to make its way in any direction. Unfortunately, Ultimo Destructo couldn't really capitalize on this because its weapon was not spinning up either, due to the motors being pulled loose and the belts losing tension. Still, Ultimo Destructo delivered light taps to Valkyrie before Valkyrie was counted out, giving Ultimo the win by KO at 2:04. |
Ultimo Destructo vs. Parallax Next up for Ultimo Destructo was Parallax. For this fight, Ultimo went with its flipper attachment, Weezo. This proved to be a good choice because when the match began, Ultimo kept turning to face the circling Parallax and eventually got a flip in, sending its opponent onto its back. Ultimo Destructo continued to face its opponent and after some missed flip attempts, flipped Parallax upright again. By this point, Ultimo Destructo suffered a minor speed controller failure that left it mostly unable to turn. Luckily, Parallax was also having drive issues and eventually started smoking. Both robots mostly stayed away from each other while taking hits from the killsaws at times before time ran out. The judges awarded a split 2-1 decision for Ultimo Destructo. |
Ultimo Destructo vs. Axe Backwards Up next for Ultimo Destructo was Axe Backwards. In response, Ultimo added projectiles and went with the hammer configuration nicknamed Bozo. As the match began, Ultimo Destructo fired its projectiles, which missed, but still started strong as it was able to keep Axe Backwards at bay. This was made easier by its opponent's drive issues. Ultimo Destructo struck its hammer and scored a near miss on Axe Backwards' drum, however the hammer appeared to barely have enough power to swing over, let alone cause damage. It then hit Axe Backwards with the shaft of the hammer and shoved it into the wall in attempt to disable the drum. However, Ultimo Destructo began to lose control of the fight as its front wedge started to come off and its weapon stopped working altogether. As the fight wore on, Sean Irvin's machine lost a tire and eventually the whole front wedge. It took one last hit from Axe Backwards and was subsequently immobilized. Ultimo Destructo was counted out, giving Axe Backwards the win by KO after 2:15. |
Ultimo Destructo vs. Witch Doctor Ultimo's next opponent was against Witch Doctor. For this fight, Ultimo went with its flipper configuration in attempt to overturn Witch Doctor and keep it from having any control or advantage. This did not go to plan, as Ultimo Destructo suffered an electrical short which affected the receiver module. As a result, they were left practically defenseless and were unable to reset the electronics before being attacked by Witch Doctor. The Gellatlys scored two further hits, which broke the modular sections of the robot and virtually split the robot into three pieces near in the corner of the box. To add insult to injury, Ultimo Destructo was hit by the pulverizer a total of thirteen times as it was unable to move, and was counted out, giving Witch Doctor their first KO win of the season. |
