Turrets are a type of weapon that don't inflict damage, but rather provide a 100% radius to attack with.
Design & History[]
In most cases a turret is a rotating overhead device similar to the gun turrets of ships, tanks and fortifications, though one big difference is that turrets in Robot Wars can only be used as melee weapons rather than projectile ones (except those with flamethrowers, like the house robot Sergeant Bash of Robot Wars). Another difference compared to the usual spinning weapons is that turrets don't spin continuously and can switch direction immediately depending on where the opponent is.
The first known case of a turret was Tazbot who utilized one with a lifting arm in the US robot wars, and continued to use a turret all the way to the end of its career. By Long Beach 1999 Tazbot was joined by more turrets in the form of Executioner who combined its turret with a chainsaw. While Executioner wouldn't return, another robot with a turret appeared in the form of Minotaur who wielded a hammer on its turret. Season 1.0 saw the arrival of Prompt Critical, Pressure Drop and Gammatron using this weapon, with Gammatron in particular having an interchangeable turret with either a hammer or vertical saw, and was the only one to return in future seasons.
Little is known if any robots in-between the classic and reboot series had any turrets, but Chomp reintroduced them in World Championship V, using a turret with both a hammer and, much like Sergeant Bash, a flamethrower.
