Thunderstorm is a 15lb robot built by members of Combat Robotics at Berkeley which competed in BattleBots: Metal Mayhem - a high school and college competition held as part of SXSW 2024.
It is a two-wheel drive robot armed with a large vertical spinning disk at the front. Thunderstorm also features a narrow feeder wedge to guide opponents into the path of its blade. Thunderstorm picked up two wins in its group and beat Fatal Error in Round 1 of the tournament, but fell in the quarter-finals to eventual champion Franky.
The Berkeley combat robotics team also fought in the 15lb event with Holy CR@B and are best known for entering Glitch into the televised show.

Thunderstorm vs. Fatal Error In Round 1 of the knockout bracket, Thunderstorm met horizontal spinner Fatal Error. Thunderstorm won its third battle and advanced to the quarter-finals as a result. |
