TerrorHurtz is a heavyweight robot built by Team Hurtz which applied for BattleBots World Championship I.
Built as the successor to KillerHurtz, TerrorHurtz was a two-wheel drive robot with an octagonally-shaped chassis featuring polycarbonate and steel plate armor. TerrorHurtz sported a 35" double-sided, bladed axe for its primary weapon which swung at 100mph and could hit with around a ton of impact force. The head of this axe was made from titanium.[1]
Despite its pedigree, TerrorHurtz was not accepted to compete.[2] Following its rejection, John Reid sought to bring back Beta and ultimately entered it into the modern era of BattleBots.
Outside BattleBots[]
TerrorHurtz originally debuted during Series 5 of the original run of Robot Wars. There, it advanced to the second round of its heat before being knocked out by Fluffy.
The following series, TerrorHurtz immediately impressed and won its heat, defeating former UK champion Panic Attack in the process. TerrorHurtz continued on and ultimately placed fourth overall, falling to eventual runner-up Razer and then losing the play-off to Firestorm 4.
During the second series of Robot Wars: Extreme, TerrorHurtz made its return. It first competed in the 'All-Stars' event, but fell in Round 1 to Tornado and Dantomkia. TerrorHurtz then fought in the 'Challenge Belt' event, where it advanced through its four-way qualifier and earned revenge over Dantomkia en route to facing Tornado in the final. Tornado quickly dispatched of TerrorHurtz, however, and Team Hurtz failed to win the belt.
Returning as the No.3 seed, TerrorHurtz was set to compete in the second episode of Series 7. However, TerrorHurtz was disqualified for arriving at the venue in an unfinished state.
Following the show's cancelation, TerrorHurtz enjoyed a long and successful career on the UK live circuit, notably winning the 2004 and 2009 FRA UK Championship and finishing second in 2005 and 2007. It competed in a multitude of other events, but has been semi-active since 2009.
The version of TerrorHurtz which applied for BattleBots instead competed in Series 8 of Robot Wars. It first advanced through its qualifying Round 1 battle and advanced to the Round Robin stage. TerrorHurtz would then defeat future champion Carbide by knockout before losing to fellow veterans Behemoth. A win by judges' decision over Nuts saw TerrorHurtz finish third in its heat and fail to make the Grand Final.
TerrorHurtz would repeat this finish in the following series, first advancing through Round 1 before losing to Sabretooth, beating Jellyfish and then falling to Aftershock.
Returning for Series 10 in its new format, TerrorHurtz won its group battle outright which immediately advanced it to the heat semi-final. TerrorHurtz there defeated Vulture but lost in the final to the flipper of Rapid. Despite a spirited effort in the ten-robot rumble - which was staged to determine the final qualifier for the Grand Final - TerrorHurtz ultimately lost out to eventual series champion Eruption.
TerrorHurtz represented the United Kingdom during the World Series specials. It won both its opening Tag Team battle alongside Sabretooth, and then defeated Team Rest of the World entry TMHWK in the head-to-head rounds. Despite going unbeaten in this episode, TerrorHurtz was snubbed in favor of Apollo representing the UK team for the final battle, where Apollo comfortably defeated Diotoir to win the event for its team.
