Team SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE, formerly known as Team FlightPlan, are an active team from New York City which competed in BattleBots World Championship V and VI. They are best known for fan favorite heavyweight SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Led by industrial designer Joe Fabiani, Team SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE are known for their unorthodox beetleweight robots including Smeezus and SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE, with their 250lb entry being based upon the latter. Following the conclusion of the 2021 season, the team announced in their 2022 Reddit AMA that SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE would be retired. SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE was later confirmed to fight in the first Sin City Slugfest bracket of BattleBots: Champions I.[1] In its final competition, SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE fell in the first round at the hands of Valkyrie.
One of SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE's disks was later reused on the World Championship VII alternate, Doomba.
Outside BattleBots[]
The team also entered Button Lee into King of Bots, which Joe Fabiani brought to 2021 season filming. Button Lee's crate even featured in the background of one of Team Uai!rrior's team shots. During King of Bots II, Button Lee was largely unsuccessful in its fights. In the Chinese show, Button Lee lost to Mist Lion on its debut. It then entered a redemption rumble against Cracked Sword, Little Qinglong and Tank, but was immobilized and eliminated at this stage.
Button Lee also made a brief appearance at the 2019 edition of Robot Ruckus in Orlando, Florida. It fought HUGH, a sportsman version of BattleBots competitor HUGE fitted with a 70lb thwacking arm rather than its spinning weaponry.
Team Members[]
Joe Fabiani[]
Joe Fabiani was SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE's captain and driver for both seasons. As well as the beetleweight SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, Joe Fabiani built a 30lb version with a vertical spinner called SMEH. In 2021, he also design a unique horizontal undercutter called Smeezus, which competes in the 12lb class in National Havoc Robot League events. Due to its unorthodox method of locomotion which uses angled hole saws to drive, Smeezus is allowed to compete despite weighing 45lbs. These hole saws were 3D printed as of its appearance in the March 2022 NHRL event. Joe Fabiani returned in May 2022 to enter crusher Inside Job into the 3lb division.
Brandon Unger[]
Present for SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE's 2020 season, he joined Team Shreddit and Pain Train for World Championship VI. Brandon Unger competes in National Havoc Robot League events with Shreddit No and later joined Team Shreddit for World Championship VII and their 250lb SHREDDIT BRO!.
