Team Robo Challenge are a team from the United Kingdom who have competed in four BattleBots World Championships. They competed in both ABC seasons with Beta before entering Quantum into World Championship IV and World Championship VII.
In their debut season, the team won the Best Design Award for 2019, presented by BattleBots co-founders Greg Munson and Trey Roski. Quantum won its play-off against Valkyrie to advance through Fight Night with its 2-2 record. It made the Top 16 with the No.13 seed, but ultimately lost out to Tombstone. Team Robo Challenge also attempted to compete in the 2020 competition, but were not able to due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While they did plan to compete in the 2021 season, they ultimately decided not to partially due to family commitments and partially due to not wanting to show up with the same version of Quantum as in the 2019 season. Even then, the team would have been forced to withdraw due to issues concerning NIE Visas which affected all the UK teams ahead of the 2021 season.
On October 6, 2022, Team Robo Challenge and Quantum were officially confirmed by BattleBots to return for World Championship VII.[1] Their season began with dominant wins over veteran shell spinner Captain Shrederator and Gruff, before the British team extended their unbeaten run against Black Dragon. After getting their better of Emulsifier, Team Robo Challenge became the first competitors to reach an elusive 4-0 Fight Night record in World Championship VII. However, their unbeaten streak was halted by Ribbot.
Outside BattleBots[]
The team behind Quantum also built Spectre for Season 1 of Chinese show King of Bots. It became the first King of Bots champion after beating the Chinese representative Chiyung Jinlun.
They also competed in This is Fighting Robots where Spectre won two battles but lost two to Formula and Two BBQ respectively with the latter being in an eight robot rumble.
Spectre then attended the 2019 Opening Battle to promote the upcoming second season of King of Bots but it lost its first battle to Two BBQ. During the season itself, Spectre earned a 7-1 record and finished joint runner-up after entering the Attrition War and losing to Vulcan.
Team Members[]
James & Grant Cooper[]
Brothers James and Grant Cooper have built 30lb versions of Team Razer's heavyweight robots Razer and Warhead named Venom and Predator respectively for various UK live events. They were also responsible for building the four House Robots for the Robot Wars reboot, which aired from 2016 until 2018 and lasted three series in total. The pair operated Basher, a renamed version of Beta, and MONTE for its unaired 2016 pilot.
Prior to Quantum's debut, James Cooper assisted with Team Carbide during World Championship II, whereas Grant co-captained Beta alongside John Reid.
The brothers were interviewed by Pete Abrahamson for the fourth episode of Bot Whisperings.

Fellow British builder Dave Moulds was only present for Team Robo Challenge's 2015 season, where Beta had to withdraw. From 2016 until 2019, he piloted Cobalt alongside fellow British builder Sam Smith. Both reunited with Cobalt ahead of World Championship VII.
