Team Nightmare, formally known as Team Hercules, are a successful, semi-active team who were everpresent from the 1999 BattleBots events until World Championship II in 2016.
The team was led by Jim Smentowski and was responsible for building one of the most recognisable heavyweight robots in the show's history, Nightmare. He also built the Giant Nut winning Backlash as well as a multitude of other robots.

The only robot not to be built by Jim or any other Team Nightmare member originally was Turtle, Jim completely rebuilt it for Season 5.0 though after purchasing it from Tom Petrucelli, who was retiring Turtle, after Season 4.0.
For the 2015 season reboot, Jim Smentowski modified the team logo to coincide with Nightmare's changes. In March 2020, Team Nightmare wrote on Facebook that they did not intend on competing in World Championship V.
With Smentowski also not competing in the most recent BattleBots seasons, it is unknown whether the team intend to return for future competitions.

Team captain Jim Smentowski has been present for each of the team's fights, from 1999 until 2019. He also developed the Nightmare ShowBots for the live show BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon.
