Team Jag, sometimes stylized as TeamJag, were a high school BattleBots team who competed in numerous BotsIQ events.
Based in Miami, Florida, the team was comprised of students from Miami Lakes Educational Center. Their first robot, Thump, is not known to have competed in BotsIQ competitions, but provided valuable experience to design future robots. Team Jag went on to build a flipper called Rattler, which became the prototype for Rattler 2 as both would compete simultaneously, beginning in BotsIQ 2007. There, Rattler 1 placed 12th while Rattler 2 placed 6th.[1]
The team would split off to enter various other robots, all under the Team Jag name. The Miami team continued to fight with both Rattler robots, but also debuted a number of other robots for future BattleBots events. The team would win the Best Engineered and Best Documentation Awards for BotsIQ 2011 after placing second in the 15lb High School Division with Sting WMD.
Outside BattleBots[]
Team Jag also competed with their BattleBots IQ entries at Mayhem in Miami - a local event organized by Ransom Everglades Robotics. Rattler 2 and Rattler 1 picked up first and third place at the 2007 event.
The third annual Mayhem in Miami event saw Technical Training Aids Titanium Tyrant (TTATT) win overall, with Rattler 2 finishing runner-up. The original Rattler also competed, but did not achieve a podium finish this time around.
The team continued to compete into the mid-to-late 2010s in various combat and non-combat events. Team Jag were present at the 2012 STEM Tech Olympiad. Sting 'EM placed second at the 2017 Miami Youth Fair event. A year earlier, Team Jag were also represented at the 2016 VEX Starstruck competition.
