Marc DeVidts[]
- "It probably all started when I was about 8 or 9 years old. You know, I'd just take apart random things – TVs, and VCRs, and things like that. I saw BattleBots on TV, and it was... I said, "I had to do that!" It was meant for me."
- — Marc DeVidts during World Championship I
Team founder Mark DeVidts was inspired to compete in BattleBots after watching the original Comedy Central seasons in his youth. This led to the creation of Edge which competed in the final Comedy Central season and several BattleBots IQ competitions. He would later assist with scoring during the 2009 High School, Collegiate and Pro Championships.[1]
In 2011, DeVidts co-founded the Silicon Valley start-up company Double Robotics, who specialize in producing the Double series of 'telepresence robots' for telecommunication purposes. One of these robots was briefly showcased during Icewave's VT segment in the first episode of World Championship I, as DeVidts explains the influence of his early BattleBots career in helping him start this business venture.[2][3]
As briefly mentioned by Chris Rose in World Championship I, DeVidts also created LED suits for music artists including Deadmau5 and The Black Eyed Peas.
- "I want to show the 17-year-old who's watching this show at home that they can actually do this, too. And it will ultimately lead to something really great, like, potentially owning your own business, if that's what you want to do."
