Team End Game, formerly known as OYES Robotics (pronounced Oh-Yes Robotics) are an active BattleBots team who debuted in World Championship III. They are best known for their incredibly successful heavyweight End Game, which won the World Championship V Giant Nut and both seasons of BattleBots: Champions.
Made up of team members from New Zealand and Canada, the team rose to prominence in BattleBots after calling out then-reigning champion Ray Billings and Tombstone during the 2018 season, but had to wait another two seasons to back this claim up.
- "We'd take Tombstone... I think Tombstone should be more worried than us!"
- — Jack Barker after defeating Captain Shrederator in the 2018 competition
The team also built a sportsman heavyweight called Krusty Grab which applied for World Championship V and VI, but first withdrew and was then not selected for the show. Several members of the team are alumni of Auckland University's Faculty of Engineering.
Team End Game are the only team since the revival of BattleBots in 2015 other than Aptyx Designs to win multiple different tournaments, and were the first team to defeat World Championship VI champion Tantrum after relinquishing their title in the regular season Round of 16.
Outside BattleBots[]
As OYES Robotics, they first made a name for themselves with an early version of their BattleBots machine called Death Toll, which competed in Fighting My Bots, going undefeated in five battles to win the competition. Death Toll was also registered for the 2018 edition of RoboGames but withdrew due to conflicting schedules.
Away from BattleBots, the team have competed at several Robot Ruckus events with Krusty Grab. In October 2024, the team will host an event for full combat 30lb and sportsman 250lb robots called Robot Rampage.[1]
Team Members[]
Jack Barker & Nick Mabey[]
End Game's driver and sole captain for the 2018 competition, Jack Barker's roots came in VEX Robotics. He originally applied for BattleBots as part of Team AURA (Auckland University Robotics Association) with Mangō, but was rejected. He and Nick Mabey co-captained End Game during the World Championship IV. His first ever combat robot, named Reaper, consisted of a shell spinner powered by a power drill motor. It was built around 2013 and featured a wooden base reinforced with concrete, but was unable to compete due to issues concerning the event.[2] Barker has also built robots in lower weight classes called Bad Blood, Dream Crusher, Blank Space and The Undertaker for New Zealand, Australian and Chinese events. Many of his more recent robots are named after Taylor Swift songs, and End Game was no exception. By day, he is a software engineer for Amazon Web Services.
Weapon operator Nick Mabey became sole End Game captain from the World Championship V onward, sharing the responsibility of post-match interviews and pre-match buildup segments alongside Jack Barker. Many of the parts that make up End Game have been machined through Mabey, who has also been a part of the team for each of their seasons to date. He is a mechatronics engineer by day, and joined Chris Rose and Kenny Florian for commentary of the World Championship VII Fight Night battle between Big Dill and Free Shipping during Episode 12.
Shane de Rijk[]
Having also started with VEX Robotics, Shane de Rijk joined the team ahead of World Championship IV and has been present ever since. He specializes in the electronics and wiring of End Game.
In the first episode of Bot Whisperings, which was uploaded parallel to Episode 9 of World Championship VII, he spoke to Pete Abrahamson and elaborated on the factors in play which make End Game so successful.
Emma McMillan[]
Residing in Canada, Emma McMillan has been part of End Game since the team's title-winning season. She was due to captain Krusty Grab had it been successful in applying for BattleBots, and as such, the robot would have been cited as Canadian.
Steven Barker[]
Brother of Jack Barker, his role on End Game is unknown. According to Shane de Rijk, he was touted to drive Krusty Grab in 2020.
Russell Barker[]
Father of Jack and Steven Barker, Russell Barker was present for End Game's first two BattleBots seasons.
Griffin Tabor[]
Griffin Tabor joined OYES Robotics in 2018 and is the only team member to have been present exclusively in End Game's debut season. A former WPI student from Massachusetts, Griffin Tabor joined the Bloodsport team in 2019.
Devin Jerram[]
Joining the team in 2020, Devin Jerram's role is unknown. He is the only member of Team End Game from World Championship V to not be part of End Game in 2021 as well.
Christina Yu[]
Team End Game's second female member after Emma McMillan, Christina Yu joined the team in 2021 though her role is unknown. Alongside Steven Barker, she competes with a 3lb robot called Emotional Damage, which won a beetleweight competition in February 2022.
