SpikedPunch, also spelt Spiked Punch, was a heavyweight robot built by Team Mixed Drink which fought at Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

It was a wedge-shaped robot armed with several spring-loaded spikes which were meant to puncture opponents and drag them into the hazards. However, SpikedPunch did not have that much pushing power. This, combined with the fact that there were no hazards during the preliminary bouts of Season 5.0 proved to be its undoing, as it lost its second fight to Vlad the Impaler II.

SpikedPunch's name came from a night of drinking in the builder's garage, where the team decided that the drink 'spiked punch' would be a good name for a robot.

Outside BattleBots[]

SpikedPunch fought without its wedge as a middleweight at BotBash in 2002 under the name Mixed Drink. One documented fight was a team battle where it was paired with Snapper and took on Karcass and Full Frontal Fulcrum.[1]

SpikedPunch vs. Scrap Daddy Persistor

SpikedPunch first fought Scrap Daddy Persistor. In the fight, Scrap Daddy Persistor drove right onto SpikedPunch's spiked wedge and got stuck, but SpikedPunch did not have the power to move Scrap Daddy Persistor very far. Eventually, Scrap Daddy Persistor escaped and tried to lift SpikedPunch over, but it was too wide to flip. SpikedPunch had difficulty driving, but Scrap Daddy Persistor eventually lost its right side drive and so SpikedPunch was able to get underneath and drag it about slowly as the match ended. A 28-17 judges' decision for SpikedPunch advanced it to the second round.

Here, it fought Vlad the Impaler II, which was clearly the aggressor throughout the battle, driving up onto SpikedPunch's wedge and getting stuck, which caused the match to stop so the two could be separated. However, according to a member of the Season 5.0 safety team, it was queried whether the spiked should be classed as an entanglement device as the list provided in the Technical Regulations at the time was non-exhaustive.[2] Though the spikes were eventually deemed not to be in violation of the entanglement rules, Vlad the Impaler II still won on a 23-22 split decision, therefore eliminating SpikedPunch.
