Snake was a superheavyweight robot built by Mark Setrakian of Team Sinister, which competed in Season 2.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.
It was an unique and unusual robot which, as its name suggested, resembled a large, robotic snake. The robot did not use wheels or tracks for locomotion, with different segments of its body instead being individually powered to allow for its entire length to twist and maneuver. Although it did not have legs, Snake was allowed the weight bonus allocated to walking robots due to its unconventional locomotion. As such, Snake weighed around 480lbs - the same as Mechadon. Snake was armed with two main weapons: three large steel jaws at the front and a drill weapon at the rear known as 'The Punisher'.[1] Snake entered the superheavyweight division of Season 2.0, with Mark Setrakian now joined by Team Sinister's Pete Abrahamson. Despite defeating Anubis, Snake's unorthodox design and lack of maneuverability was its downfall in the Round of 16 against War Machine, and Snake was eliminated. Despite this, Snake won two post-competition awards as it was declared the Coolest and Best Engineered robot at the event.
Following the cancelation of Comedy Central BattleBots, Snake made appearances at various events for demonstration, including BattleBots IQ.
Mark Setrakian also competed in early US events and several other Comedy Central BattleBots seasons with heavyweight The Master and superheavyweight Mechadon. Following their retirement from competing, Mark Setrakian's involvement with BattleBots continued as the show was revived in 2015, working behind the scenes and designing the Axis robot which displays the Giant Nut trophy. He also built the demonstration robot Stalker for the 2022 competition.
Likewise, Pete Abrahamson worked as a producer for the show before having an on-screen presence as "The Bot Whisperer".
Outside BattleBots[]
Snake had previously competed in the 1997 US Robot Wars event where it was convincingly beaten by Scorpion.
With a 300lb weight limit for competitors not using traditional means of locomotion in that event, Snake was lighter than in its televised BattleBots appearance.[2]

Snake vs Anubis In Snake's first battle, it faced Anubis. In this fight, Snake tried to move out of its corner while Anubis, unsure how exactly to attack such an awkward and large opponent, drove across and tried to lift it with its weaponry. However, Anubis eventually broke down and Snake used its drill as Anubis was counted out. As such, Snake advanced to the Round of 16. |
Snake vs War Machine This knockout win put Snake into Round of 16, where it fought Team Delta and War Machine. As the fight began, Snake contorted its body in an attempt to escape the red starting square as War Machine faced it from the opposite end of the BattleBox. Snake's jaws opened invitingly as War Machine drove into its body and rammed it back into the spikes. War Machine looked on as Snake twisted and turned, but a second assault caused a battery to short and smoke to pour from Mark Setrakian's bot. |
