Slap Box is a heavyweight robot built by Team Already Broke, which competed in BattleBots World Championship V and BattleBots: Bounty Hunters.
It is an invertible, four-wheel drive robot decorated with vibrantly colored handprints from the Yankauskas family. In its debut BattleBots season, it was armed with a long lifting arm with spikes on top to prevent opponents from driving off easily. Slap Box also sported a flamethrower and a defensive wedge configuration for fighting spinners. Slap Box was accompanied by a four-wheel drive minibot called Immolate, which sporting a similar color style to the main robot and was driven and maintained by then eight-year-old Onika Yankauskas.
Despite a promising showing against the experienced Sharko following a loss to former champion Tombstone, Slap Box would not receive a third Fight Night battle and therefore finished the season with a 1-1 record. Despite an even record, Slap Box did not make the World Championship tournament. Dominic and Hunter Yankauskas also assisted with Gemini during the 2020 competition.
Slap Box returned for BattleBots: Bounty Hunters, but lost in the first round to Jonathan Schultz's HUGE by judges' decision after going the distance.
For unknown reasons, Slap Box did not apply for future BattleBots seasons.
Outside BattleBots[]
Prior to its BattleBots debut, Slap Box competed at 2019's Robot Ruckus event in Orlando, Florida. Its first match was against Axe Backwards where it won after constantly pushing it around the arena. Slap Box then faced Gruff, threatening to get underneath it throughout the fight, but lost after Gruff impaled it with its lifting weaponry. Their final match came against Extinguisher, where it won again by a close decision despite some good hits from its opponent.
Slap Box was later sold to National Havoc Robot League for their combat robotics museum.

World Championship V[] |
---|
Slap Box vs. Tombstone Slap Box's first match in BattleBots came against World Championship II champion Tombstone. Before the match, the team removed the lifting fork to add a plow configuration and wedges, as well as adding their minibot, Immolate. The match did not start well for Slap Box as the first few impacts destroyed the wedges. Slap Box held its ground however and after flipping Tombstone, tried to ram them into the wall, but began losing wheels as a result of its opponent's attacks. Slap Box soon lost all but the orange and was only able to drive in circles. All that was left mobile was their minibot, but Tombstone couldn't hit it and opted not to try as Slap Box was being counted out, giving Tombstone the win by KO. |
Slap Box vs. Sharko Slap Box's next match came against veteran Edward Robinson and Sharko. The fight began with Slap Box managing to get underneath Sharko but struggling to flip it over. After an uneventful struggle between both bots, Slap Box's lifter was clamped by Sharko. However, Slap Box hoisted Sharko in the air and took it across the BattleBox. Later in the fight, Slap Box was able to put its flamethrower to good use and after Sharko escaped, Slap Box was able to flip it over. Sharko was now unable to properly drive with moments left in the fight. Slap Box backed off as Sharko was counted out, giving Slap Box its first BattleBots victory. Off the back of this impressive performance, however, Slap Box did not make any more appearances in the main season. |
BattleBots: Bounty Hunters[] |
Slap Box vs. HUGE Slap Box competed in the Witch Doctor bracket of BattleBots: Bounty Hunters, beginning its run against HUGE, sporting experimental Tegris wheels. Slap Box also made adaptations for this fight, adding long lifting forks with ladder-like supports and a hook on the front to try and catch HUGE by the wheels. However, Slap Box lost a tire almost immediately from the initial exchanges. Undeterred however, Slap Box continued to chase HUGE as it shed its tire treads. Though HUGE had its weapon spun up, Slap Box was low enough for most impacts to be glancing shots at best. Slap Box remained aggressive, hooking HUGE's wheel at one stage, but at the same time making itself vulnerable to attack. HUGE managed to hit from overhead once more and this time tore off one of Slap Box's wedges. Slap Box was dead with ten seconds to go, but there was no time for a count out. HUGE finished strong, tearing off another of its opponent's wheels to leave a lasting impression on the judges. HUGE won by unanimous decision, and Slap Box was eliminated from the bracket. |

- The World Championship V build of Slap Box was sold to National Havoc Robot League for their robot museum, among other robots such as Tantrum, Pain Train, Bloodsport, DUCK! and Panic Attack.
