Scallywag was a heavyweight robot built by The Welsh Wizards, which fought exclusively in Season 3.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

Built by Kim Davies of Panic Attack fame, Scallywag was a four-wheel drive, wedge-shaped robot armed with a lifting panel that covered the entire front of the robot. Similar in appearance to Panic Attack, it also featured skirts at the sides to prevent other robots from getting underneath it easily. Scallywag was armored in 1/4" thick aluminum.

According to Kim Davies, Scallywag was originally supposed to feature a powerful CO2 flipper similar to two-time UK champion Chaos 2, but the team were unable to fit and test this in time for Season 3.0 and therefore borrowed the electric lifting setup from Panic Attack instead.

Despite the team's pedigree in UK show Robot Wars, where Panic Attack won the second series and was considered one of the best robots of the show's original run, Scallywag lost its only battle in an unaired fight against Omega-13.

"It was an electric lifter. It would lift an awful lot, but the drive wasn't quite right. It was a little bit slower (than Panic Attack), the lifting mechanism wasn't quite right..."

No footage exists of the fight and neither Scallywag nor Panic Attack returned to BattleBots following the season.

After its loss, Scallywag was deconstructed for spare parts, according to the team's website.

Robot History

Season 3.0

Scallywag vs. Omega-13 Scallywag, damaged after the fight with Omega-13. Scallywag's first and only opponent was Omega-13. This match was close, with both robots ramming and pushing each other. Scallywag managed to lift its opponent numerous times and was the more aggressive of the two, but Omega-13 managed to inflict more damage, curling up the leading edge of Scallywag's lifter panel. Towards the end of the fight, two of Omega-13's motors had burned out which left the bot sluggish in the closing moments. However, Omega-13 won and was allowed to narrowly advance on a close 23-22 judges' decision. Though it was booed by the audience, Scallywag was eliminated from the competition.
