Samurai is a heavyweight robot designed by Brazil's Bowltech Robotics, which applied for BattleBots World Championship VII and more recently, World Championship VIII.
It is a two-wheel drive, invertible robot armed with a powerful undercutter at the front. Bearing a resemblance to seasoned competitor Valkyrie, Samurai differs in its use of Brazil wheels, commonly seen on robots such as fellow Brazilian entry Black Dragon, as well as 2020 season runner-up Whiplash.
Samurai was built in collaboration with the company ARC Soluções Em Engenharia, who multiple team members work for. Team Samurai is made up of Team ThundeRatz alumni, who have had much success over the years with their middleweight Apolkalipse, winning gold in its debut RoboGames event and reaching the quarter-finals in its two subsequent appearances. Across the three years, they chalked up wins over established BattleBots teams such as Team Bad Kitty, Team Fast Electric Robots, Team RioBotz and Team Uai!rrior.
Having applied for World Championship VII in February 2022, the team stated on a now-deleted Facebook post that they had yet to receive an update on the status of their application.[1] Bowltech Robotics made the trip to Las Vegas for filming of World Championship VII, though it was unclear at the time whether they intended to compete or simply spectate.[2] In a later post by the team's Instagram page, it was revealed that Samurai was a last-minute entry to the competition.[3]
Though it would not compete in the main season, or indeed in BattleBots: Champions II, Samurai fought and won in a single exhibition fight against DOOM towards the end of the season's filming.[4]
The team have applied formally for World Championship VIII.[5]
Outside BattleBots[]
Bowltech Robotics applied for the 2023 edition of RoboGames with Shogun, a renamed version of Samurai, but withdrew close to the event for unknown reasons.

Samurai vs. DOOM (Exhibition) Bowltech Robotics and Samurai fought as part of the end-of-season exhibition battles. It took on DOOM, which had struggled throughout filming and as a result, had not competed in the main season or the spin-off BattleBots: Champions II.The fight began with DOOM doing a box-rush while Samurai dodged it as it spun up its undercutting blade. While DOOM was a bit sluggish to move, causing Samurai to gain an advantage and land its first hit on Alejandro Pina's robot. Samurai bounced upside-down but could still successfully function as an overcutter. DOOM, on the other hand, stopped moving momentarily before it drove around and spun up its hammer saw in an attempt to stay aggressive and attack an inverted Samurai. Both robots went weapon-to-weapon, causing Samurai to right itself. One of the armor panels on DOOM was ripped off by Samurai during the attack, slightly exposing the chassis of DOOM. Samurai remained aggressive and landed a few more shots on a weary DOOM, the last hit tore off another armor panel and immobilized its drive. With DOOM little more than a sitting duck, Samurai landed one more attack, winning the exhibition by knockout. This fight was initially revealed to Facebook Supporters, and publicly announced by Team APT in September 2023. On December 2, BattleBots publicly shared the full match on their official Facebook feed.[6] |
