SHREDDIT BRO!, also known simply as Shreddit Bro, is a heavyweight robot built by Team Shreddit which debuted in BattleBots World Championship VII.
Built as a direct successor to the team's previous entry, Pain Train, SHREDDIT BRO! is an upscaled version of the team's highly successful 3lb robot of the same name. Unlike its smaller version, however, SHREDDIT BRO!'s 250lb build is four-wheel drive, sporting large rubber wheels to keep the robot invertible. These wheels are unprotected, lacking the wheelguards seen on the 3lb Shreddit Bro and the CAD revealed to Facebook Supporters ahead of the season airing, but are made from a tough, vulcanized rubber similar to the Brazil wheels seen on robots such as Whiplash and adopted by SawBlaze ahead of the tournament. SHREDDIT BRO! also featured TPU rubber bumpers either side of the primary weapon to absorb hits from the front. Evan Arias cited weapon reliability as one of the biggest improvements between it and Pain Train, and the weapon itself is a 60lb eggbeater drum spinner spinning at 190mph.
It was revealed by the team in July 2022 that Pain Train would be retired by a robot bearing the SHREDDIT BRO! name,[1] and in the weeks that followed, Evan Arias confirmed SHREDDIT BRO!'s acceptance in the reply to a BattleBots Facebook group post.[2] Team Shreddit stated they would reveal the final design for SHREDDIT BRO! after the conclusion of the July National Havoc Robot League event.[3] However, it was not until October 2022 that SHREDDIT BRO!'s finalized design would be shared publicly. SHREDDIT BRO!'s first fight came in Episode 4, against the rookie bot Horizon. Despite both robots struggling throughout the three minutes, Team Shreddit began their season with a win, but then lost its next two matches to Ominous and Lucky. In its best performance of the season, SHREDDIT BRO! ended a difficult Fight Night run with a close win over Overhaul. Ultimately, despite its 2-2 record, it did not break into the Round of 32.
In September 2023, Team Shreddit confirmed their inclusion into the first episode of BattleBots: Champions II. Between the Fight Night rounds and this side series, the team sought help from Rory Mangles of Team Monsoon to help tune their speed controllers.[4] Among other improvements, this contributed to a much stronger display as SHREDDIT BRO! defeated Skorpios, Switchback and Valkyrie to punch its ticket into the Golden Bolt tournament. Unfortunately, its run for the Golden Bolt fell disastrously short by the far more aggressive and experienced Jamison Go and SawBlaze, having its LiPo battery sliced open by SawBlaze and ending its dream run altogether.
The team confirmed their application for World Championship VIII[5], with improvements concerning weight distribution, new speed controllers for their motors and a more reliable weapon shaft according to an October 2022 Reddit AMA.[6]

SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Horizon SHREDDIT BRO!'s BattleBots debut came against Joshua Kong and Horizon.Evan Arias' bot opted to hang back as Horizon spun its dual discs. SHREDDIT BRO!'s eggbeater drum spinner was up to speed, but failed to make contact with Horizon with the first attack of the battle. Horizon drove around and dealt a weapon-to-weapon blow with one of its horizontal discs. Although its larger bar was now rotating, this impact disabled one of Horizon's spinners. SHREDDIT BRO! struggled to drive on the BattleBox floor as Horizon swung its only functional disc into the drum of Evan Arias' bot again, but failed to cause meaningful damage. Horizon appeared hesitant to engage, but had also been suffering drive issues from the start, in part due to using experimental speed controllers which had yet to be tested in combat.[7] SHREDDIT BRO!'s drum got up to speed again as it struggled to escape the center of the arena. Horizon landed a tap to the back of its opponent as SHREDDIT BRO!'s drum began making contact with the floor. With its one remaining spinner, Horizon swung into the side SHREDDIT BRO!, tearing into its left-rear tire and retreating to the middle of the BattleBox.
SHREDDIT BRO! was still twitching and arced around as Horizon drove away, making contact with its trailing disc and throwing Joshua Kong's bot into the air, damaging one of the supports for its "taco" self-righter. Horizon landed with one side of its arm resting on the paddle hazard, which activated to free the rookie team. With by far the biggest impact of the match, Horizon's discs had now both been disabled, but both robots' drive issues persisted. Horizon found itself resting on top of SHREDDIT BRO! as the killsaws cut against its disc. Neither robot was able to move as Horizon's wheels were off the floor and SHREDDIT BRO! lacked the traction to reverse away to safety. The fight went the distance, and SHREDDIT BRO! was unanimously declared the winner by judges' decision, giving Team Shreddit a 1-0 start to the tournament. |
SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Ominous Next up for SHREDDIT BRO! was another rookie entry in Ominous. Not long before the match began, the team had swapped out the wheels and added two small forks to the front. The match started out slowly as SHREDDIT BRO! tried to attack Ominous from the side but couldn't reach it quickly enough. Ominous strafed away toward the near right corner, and then toward the middle to confront its opponent. After finding an angle of attack, Ominous popped SHREDDIT BRO!, but SHREDDIT BRO! recovered and turned its front toward Ominous. They charged at each other, weapon on weapon, knocking Ominous into the far left corner, but SHREDDIT BRO's drum was now disabled. Ominous recovered from its hit, landing another small pop on SHREDDIT BRO! and briefly having its own weapon slow down. SHREDDIT BRO! then found an opportunity to push Ominous around after it got stuck on the floor, but it couldn't control the match for long.
After also getting stuck on the floor for a short moment, SHREDDIT BRO! kept getting charged at by Ominous, only managing to push it around for brief intervals. Pinning SHREDDIT BRO! on the wall did slow down the weapon on Ominous for a few moments again, but there was still no permanent damage, meaning it could land a few more pops on SHREDDIT BRO! in the final seconds of the match. SHREDDIT BRO! again went the distance, but lost by unanimous decision and were relegated to 1-1. The team requested an Appeal, but were unsuccessful in their efforts and their loss was confirmed. |
SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Lucky SHREDDIT BRO!'s third Fight Night opponent was the Canadian veteran Lucky, who had yet to lose a battle in World Championship VII.Evan Arias' bot drove towards Lucky, but rode up its front and found itself smothered in the corner of the BattleBox. SHREDDIT BRO! was denied time and space to spin its eggbeater drum up to speed as Mark Demers' team tried to get it underneath the pulverizer. SHREDDIT BRO! took the fight to the center of the arena, but Lucky driver Matt Olsen continued to get the front wedges of Lucky underneath the comparatively small 1-1 bot. Though it was momentarily able to drive away, its spinner still could not reach any damaging speed, so Lucky took advantage.
Lucky was able to punt SHREDDIT BRO! over, forcing it to face the screws behind the blue starting square. It followed this up with a second controlled flip, which proved enough to slot Team Shreddit's robot behind the screws. Despite the arena hazard's best efforts to spit SHREDDIT BRO! back out, it was unable to do so and a count began shortly after, confirming a 1-2 record for Evan Arias' bot with just one Fight Night battle to go. |
SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Overhaul SHREDDIT BRO!'s fourth and final Fight Night opponent was former quarter-finalist Overhaul.Overhaul gingerly approached its opponent as SHREDDIT BRO! began by riding up the forks of Charles Guan's bot. Almost escaping, SHREDDIT BRO! was grabbed by Overhaul, who clamped down onto a tire and picked it up, before immediately dropping Team Shreddit's machine. SHREDDIT BRO! drove away, turning to face Overhaul with its primary weapon. However, Overhaul was quick to halt the eggbeater drum spinner and reached behind, hoisting SHREDDIT BRO! into the air and slamming it against the housing for the screws. Overhaul repeated this several times before finishing its attack with a flip, overturning SHREDDIT BRO!. Overhaul gave chase and as SHREDDIT BRO!'s weapon was now spinning downward, Overhaul drove it into the Upper Deck, where it bounced upright again. SHREDDIT BRO! was picked up by its weapon and bashed against the hazard again, in a strong showing of control and aggression. Releasing after a few seconds, Overhaul again flipped its opponent over before gripping the baseplate near the short corner. SHREDDIT BRO! drove away from danger, opting to drive into the front of Overhaul as sparks flew. Still inverted, it threw its spinning weapon into Overhaul again, but bounced upside-down once again. After a third attack, SHREDDIT BRO! finally righted itself, allowing its drum spinner to become considerably more potent. Although the weapon made contact with the BattleBox floor, it still landed a strong attack on Overhaul before being flipped twice more. SHREDDIT BRO! escaped and as Overhaul gave chase, its fork became stuck in the killsaw slot and the saw itself sliced into a tire. Looking to capitalize, SHREDDIT BRO! met Overhaul head-on, throwing it over and prompting celebration from Team Shreddit. Overhaul recovered but SHREDDIT BRO! fed its drum to Charles Guan's bot again, grazing the grabbing arm before throwing it through the air again. This was followed by a blow which bent the lifting forks and dislodged the connecting bar. In the final twenty seconds, SHREDDIT BRO! remained aggressive as the damage racked up. Both robots were mobile at the end of the battle and a split judges' decision went in favor of SHREDDIT BRO!, confirming a second win of the season for Evan Arias' team. However, this was not enough to convince the Selection Committee, as SHREDDIT BRO! failed to break into the Top 32. |
BattleBots: Champions II[] |
SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Skorpios SHREDDIT BRO! returned for the opening episode of BattleBots: Champions II, where its first round opponent was Skorpios. Before the fight, Kenny Florian predicted SHREDDIT BRO! to be the underdog and predicted Evan Arias' team to struggle in this match-up.
SHREDDIT BRO! began the fight by driving up the plow of Skorpios, who drove the comparatively smaller opponent around before it was released. After oversteering, SHREDDIT BRO!'s vulnerable rear end faced Skorpios, but Zach Lytle failed to capitalize on the early opportunity. Immediately after, SHREDDIT BRO! caught the lip of Skorpios' plow, kicking the former Bounty Hunters winner back and then grinding against its front as Skorpios began to smoke. Skorpios pushed back as the pair tussled near the short corner, before SHREDDIT BRO! deflected off its opponent and was overturned. Now spinning downward, SHREDDIT BRO! rode up Skorpios again, this time striking the weapon arm and snapping a chain. As Skorpios drove away, it was sniped by the 70lb drum of SHREDDIT BRO!. Skorpios flew through the air and landed upright, much to the delight of an exuberant Team Shreddit. SHREDDIT BRO! remained aggressive, driving weapon-first into Skorpios and consistently kicking it back. SHREDDIT BRO!'s assault on the seasoned veteran continued, striking the underside of Skorpios as the damage racked up. Skorpios eventually landed, but had a tear in its left-side tire and had been immobilized. SHREDDIT BRO! lifted off the ground momentarily as it turned to retreat, landing on the barbs of Skorpios' plow. Despite a nervy few seconds, SHREDDIT BRO! escaped and referee Kathryn Godfrey initiated a count against Skorpios. SHREDDIT BRO! completed the upset and advanced to Round 2 of the bracket. |
SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Switchback In the semi-finals, SHREDDIT BRO! took on Switchback, who had beaten Kraken in the previous round. Pre-fight, Evan Arias expressed confidence in beating his opponent, wanting to disable Switchback's weapon as quickly as possible.SHREDDIT BRO! was fastest out of its starting square as Switchback initially held back. This allowed both robots to get their spinning weaponry up to speed before the pair met head on. Although this looked to favor Greg Needel's robot as SHREDDIT BRO! was flung upside-down, the impact snapped Switchback's weapon belts.
Switchback began smoking soon after and drove into the Upper Deck, allowing SHREDDIT BRO! to get around to its back. Evan Arias capitalized, peeling away the back armor of Switchback. It continued to grind down Switchback before popping it backwards, sending the Top 32 finisher into a backflip. The assault on Switchback continued with SHREDDIT BRO! upending it several more times, ripping off its beak attachment in the process. Although the Team Shreddit bot took a hit from the pulverizer, it drove away and landed another big hit on Switchback which saw it land on its back. This impact appeared to disable Switchback's weapon completely as it lay stranded on its back. Team Shreddit celebrated as a count began on Greg Needel's team, confirming SHREDDIT BRO!'s place in the Sin City Slugfest final.

SHREDDIT BRO! vs. Valkyrie Advancing to the final, SHREDDIT BRO! took on Lucy Du and Valkyrie. Before the fight, Kenny Florian figured Evan Arias would again show no fear in engaging weapon-to-weapon, but believed Valkyrie would get the better of these exchanges.SHREDDIT BRO! approached Valkyrie in the opening seconds, but was brushed aside by Lucy Du's 65lb weapon. Undeterred, it Evan Arias met Valkyrie head on for a second time, popping it into the air and throwing it towards the Upper Deck.
Following up on its attack, SHREDDIT BRO! struck Valkyrie again as sparks flew on impact. Valkyrie retaliated and unbalanced the Team Shreddit robot. SHREDDIT BRO! targeted its opponent's weapon again, as Kenny Florian expressed surprise at Valkyrie's reluctance to attack SHREDDIT BRO!'s exposed wheels. Lucy Du's robot found itself sat upon the screws soon after, but the primary weapon of Evan Arias' robot was no longer showing life.
Valkyrie's undercutter continued to spin, but SHREDDIT BRO! kept driving face-first into it, seeking to disable Sweet Caroline for good. As it turned, it became evident Valkyrie had buckled the TPU bumper on SHREDDIT BRO!'s right-hand side, reducing it to a rambot as the fight approached the halfway point. In spite of this, SHREDDIT BRO! continued to press Valkyrie, even ramming it towards the spiked barriers near the corner. This led to SHREDDIT BRO! suffering a hammer blow from the 100lb pulverizer but the wheels on Valkyrie began to look unlevel as Kenny Florian acknowledged its drive issues. SHREDDIT BRO! capitalized on this, maneuvering to the back of Valkyrie and taking it to the screws behind the blue starting square. With under a minute to go, Valkyrie's undercutter struck the screws and caused it to deflect away, but this appeared to be the only mobility left in Lucy Du's robot. As referee David Sanfilippo sought to assess it for a count-out, SHREDDIT BRO! forced Valkyrie back into the screws.
Valkyrie's weapon continued to spin, but SHREDDIT BRO! retreated as the count began. With eleven seconds left, SHREDDIT BRO! took the win by knockout. Thus, it won the first Sin City Slugfest outright and secured a place in the Golden Bolt tournament. |
SHREDDIT BRO! vs. SawBlaze
In the first round of the Golden Bolt bracket, SHREDDIT BRO! fought World Championship VII Giant Nut winner SawBlaze. Prior to the match, captain Evan Arias expressed his appreciation for Jamison Go's hammer saw, while anticipating a difficult duel. Both robots began by advancing to the center of the arena, but SHREDDIT BRO! overshot slightly as SawBlaze ran into the ground tiles. SHREDDIT BRO! attempted to turn around, but was caught in the forks of SawBlaze and was taken into the bottom-left corner of the BattleBox, where SawBlaze attacked its left wheels. Managing to pry itself loose, SHREDDIT BRO! then tried to attack SawBlaze's hammer saw once more, but was caught and taken to the edge of the Upper Deck. Here, SawBlaze attacked its back, successfully lodging itself in before first reversing slightly then driving towards the Drivers' Booth, where it was released. Following that, SHREDDIT BRO! attempted to face SawBlaze, pirouetting several times, but failed as it was dragged closer towards the bottom pulverizer before finally escaping. After this, SHREDDIT BRO! escaped to the middle of the BattleBox once more, turning around but failing to land a clear shot before its drum collided with the floor, propelling SHREDDIT BRO! into the air, where it was pushed by SawBlaze onto the wall between the Screws. Here, SHREDDIT BRO! eventually escaped, but was immediately pushed back into the Screws by SawBlaze, which attacked its back once more. However, this attack proved to cause critical damage, compromising one of the batteries and causing a fire.
SHREDDIT BRO! was first dragged backwards and then into the corner of the Upper Deck. After some difficulty in maneuvering, SHREDDIT BRO! was then dragged into the gap between the Screws before being driven into the left-hand screws, where it was held for several seconds. Finally, it was reversed by SawBlaze and driven first into the top pulverizer, and then back towards the drivers' booth. However, at this stage, smoke emitted by SHREDDIT BRO! had greatly worsened visibility, with a leak being visible and SawBlaze remaining unable to dislodge itself from SHREDDIT BRO! With crew unable to separate both robots, the fight went to the judges. They voted unanimously in favor of SawBlaze, ending SHREDDIT BRO!'s remarkable streak. |

"This lo-fi darling came out of nowhere. Now he's making the rounds. Trying to be a legend, even though he's like your corpse underground. He's not big but you'll get hipster cred if he hits you with his tool. And you can say, 'Yeah, he killed me before he was cool.' It's SHREDDIT BRO!"
"This New York bot will put you underground, like a subway tunnel that's been abandoned. And like that city, you'll never sleep for fear of the death that you'll be handed. So run for Jersey. Hit the turnpike, or your demise, it couldn't be gorier. And beware this team in Sin City, 'cause man, they look like warriors. It's SHREDDIT BRO!"
