RoboGym Robotics are an active BattleBots team who competed in World Championship V and VI along with the concurrently-filmed spin-offs BattleBots: Bounty Hunters and BattleBots: Champions I. They competed in all aforementioned events with the heavyweight Deadlift until its retirement in 2022.
The team are comprised of various mechanical engineers and friends who typically go to the gym together. This common interest spawned the theme behind their heavyweight robot, Deadlift.
- "We said, ‘Hey, we've all lifted together. In college, we would go to the gym together anyway.’ That was where the idea for this team name, RoboGym, came from."
- — Matt Birkel on the team's origins
According to an Onshape article, RoboGym Robotics planned to build a new robot to replace Deadlift for World Championship VII, called Reflex, later renamed to Snatch.[1] However, issues relating to the robots flywheel flipper caused the team to withdraw and miss the competition.[2]
In May 2023, the team confirmed their brand new build for World Championship VIII called Roundhouse. Based upon the team's featherweight of the same name, Roundhouse also features a flamethrower at the front.
Outside BattleBots[]
Outside of BattleBots, RoboGym Robotics competed with two very similar featherweight undercutters called CrossHit and Roundhouse. They also fought with a featherweight eggbeater called Botceps, a vertical spinner called Impact, and a sportsman lifter called Lockout. These all competed in the February 2020 Motorama event with varying success. Roundhouse earned the best record during the competition, finishing third. The team also competed in the lightweight division of RoboGames 2017 and 2018 with their eggbeater spinner, Bigly.
