Reality was a heavyweight robot from The Netherlands built by a collaboration of Dutch roboteers made up of Team BonX, Metal Skull Robotics, Team KODOX and Team Tie-Rip, which competed exclusively in BattleBots World Championship III.
It was a four-wheel drive, box-shaped robot which was capable of running both ways up. Reality was armored in HARDOX 450 and equipped with a vertical spinner at the front, which saw a cylindrical hunk of metal sandwiched between two thick disks. This was colloquially known as a drisk as a portmanteau of 'drum' and 'disk'.
Reality's primary weapon was unique in the fact that its weapon motor was housed inside the drum, allowing internal space within the robot to be dedicated elsewhere. The drum was capable of hitting around 5,000rpm (168mph) according to Tim Bouwens. The team chalked up three wins overall, including one in the USA vs. The World mid-season special, but failed to make the tournament bracket after suffering two losses due to speed controller issues.
While Reality would not return for any further seasons of BattleBots, the team built a new drum bot called Ominous which debuted in World Championship VII after having to withdraw from both the 2020 and 2021 competitions.
In January 2022, Reality was sold by to Dutch BattleBots fan Lars Bakker by Team BonX's Jeroen van Lieverloo.[1] Alongside Toe Kicker - another machine purchased by Bakker - it publicly reappeared at the FACTS convention in Ghent, Belgium that October; both robots being displayed with Team P.C.P.'s Petunia in front of the Dutch Robot Games arena.[2]

Reality vs. SawBlaze Reality's first ever BattleBots match came against Jamison Go and SawBlaze. The match started poorly for Reality as they were quickly shoved against the arena barrier by its opponent, which then brought down its saw. Despite its attempts to evade SawBlaze, Reality again found itself under pressure from SawBlaze. However, Reality managed to get underneath SawBlaze and cause some sparks with its drum but this didn't affect SawBlaze at all. Eventually, Reality damaged the middle fork of SawBlaze and got underneath again before time ran out. In the end, the judges awarded a 3-0 unanimous decision to SawBlaze. |
Reality vs. DUCK! Reality's next fight was against Hal Rucker's DUCK!. The match started off pretty evenly with neither robot gaining control over the other early on. However, Reality managed to maneuver to the side of DUCK! and tore off a tire. DUCK! was able to drive on three wheels, however, and used its plow to deflect future blows from the Dutch machine. Reality was nearly flipped over by its opponent before one of its speed controllers suddenly failed the team, resulting in Reality being immobilized. Reality was counted out, giving DUCK! the win by KO. |
Reality vs. Lucky Up next for Reality was against Lucky, which had finished runner-up in the Desperado Tournament. Reality made the first hit as the fight commenced, causing sparks to fly as it grinded Lucky. Reality continued to attack but was failing to cause noticeable damage in the opening moments. However, Reality then delivered a big hit on Lucky which flipped them over. Though Lucky was quick to self-right, Reality continued to hit back, landing another hit with its drum spinner which left Lucky driving in circles. Following this, Reality itself was no longer very mobile after issues again concerning their speed controllers. Reality was still capable of one last hit, which resulted in Lucky no longer being able to move. Lucky was counted out, giving Reality the win by KO after 1:56. |
Reality vs. HyperShock Reality next took part in the USA vs. The World tournament, and faced HyperShock in hopes of earning a point for its team. The match was off to a very poor start for Reality as HyperShock dealt the majority of the early attacks, leaving a large gash in Reality's drum and damaging it's front armor. As the match wore on, Reality's weapon stopped working as magnets within the motor broke but they were still able to fully drive. However, by this point, their opponent had lost drive on one side and stopped moving completely as smoke began to pour out. HyperShock was counted out, giving Reality the win by KO and earning a point for the Rest of the World team. |
Reality vs. Mohawk In a last-ditch effort to make the Top 16, Reality was put up against Mohawk. The match was pretty even to start as neither robot was able to do much damage upon the first impact. However, Reality started to take control by bending the front lip of Mohawk's wedge upward, making it harder for Mohawk to get any sort of attack. Reality continued to attack as Mohawk approached, causing more and more damage with each hit. Reality soon got the decisive hit that threw Mohawk onto its side where it could not self-right. Mohawk was counted out, giving Reality the win by knockout with just over ten seconds to go. |
