REDRUM

REDRUM in the arena during BattleBots Rochester R3

REDRUM was a Heavyweight robot built by Team Entropy that competed at the 2005 BattleBots Rochester R3 event. It was a Silver robot with two different sets of wheels on the front, and top of the robot to allow it to drive inverted, and it was armed with a large, Red gasoline powered drum spinner. REDRUM didn't do very well in BattleBots, winning only one match against Big Betty by forfeit.

Despite this REDRUM proved to be a crowd favorite due to its tenancy to Gyrodance a lot, and due to the small amount of entrants to BattleBots Rochester R3 it did manage to reach the semifinals.

Outside of BattleBots REDRUM competed in the RFL, even becoming runner up in Battle Beach 3, and the third North Carolina Robot Street Fight.

The robot's name stems from literally having a red drum and from its name being "murder" backwards.

REDRUM, and Shrederator go flying.

REDRUM, and Shrederator go flying.

After receiving a bye in the first round REDRUM's firs opponent was scheduled to be Big Betty. However Big Betty had technical issues, and was forced to forfeit. This put REDRUM through to the next round where it faced Shrederator. This fight started with both robots spinning up to speed, Shrederator then ripped off REDRUM's ablative wooden armor that had been attached for this fight.

REDRUM then got a hit in on Shrederator, which sent more bits of wood flying. Shrederator then delivered a hit to REDRUM which sent both robots flying, with REDRUM landing upside down where it promptly tapped out. This loss meant that REDRUM was now in the losers bracket finals where it faced Big Betty again. It lost this fight, and was eliminated from the competition.

Trivia

REDRUM still exists today, as a 2016 post on Reddit showed the robot minus the armor in an almost complete form.
