Prompt Critical was a superheavyweight robot built by Ken and Chuck Russell for the first season of Comedy Central BattleBots. It was a black and yellow, six-wheeled robot that was armed with a rotating turret similar to Robot Wars competitor Evolution. It unfortunately stalled out in its first match against Mechadon, but surprisingly came back for the Superheavyweight Royal Rumble.

Prompt Critical is also known to have attempted to participate in the Long Beach 1999 event by its inclusion on the fan brochure handed out at the event.[1] It was going to attempt to compete in the heavyweight bracket. It is unknown why Prompt Critical ended up withdrawing from the competition.

Prompt Critical vs. Mechadon

Mechadon vs prompt critical 1

Mechadon moves slowly towards Prompt Critical.

Prompt Critical's first and only match was against the walkerbot Mechadon. In this match, Prompt Critical was spinning its blade and it broke down immediately before Mechadon could even move out of its square. Mechadon won the match by KO at 1:55 and Prompt Critical was eliminated from the tournament.

Superheavyweight Royal Rumble

Prompt Critical stuck against the spikestrip.

Prompt Critical also participated the superheavyweight rumble at the end of the tournament. It started out well as it immobilized Ginsu with its spinning axe. After getting hit by Grendel's axe, Prompt Critical backed up and started spinning its blade. It moved to the center of the BattleBox and after hitting Diesector with its spinning axe, Minion got underneath Prompt Critical and pushed it against the spikestrip. Prompt Critical was stuck against the spikestrip and Minion pushed Ronin against the immobile Prompt Critical soon after. The time ran out and Minion was declared the winner of the Superheavyweight Royal Rumble. This meant that Prompt Critical lost overall.

  • Surprisingly, Prompt Critical isn't listed among the Superheavyweight competitors from Season 1.0 in the archived BattleBots website, meaning details about the robot beyond what's seen and mentioned are pretty sparse.
