Pressure Drop

Pressure Drop was a middleweight walkerbot built by Derek Young of Automatum Technologies, which competed exclusively in Season 1.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

Its weapon was a large, spring-loaded pickaxe on a 360-degree rotating turret. Pressure Drop won two matches in its only season, making the semi-finals of the tournament. Pressure Drop was the successor of Son of Smashy, which used a similar weapon system, but Pressure Drop used a titanium rock chisel for its axe-head.

Pressure Drop's axe mechanism was powered by a large torsional garage door spring and the axe itself was loaded by an automotive winch drive using a cam drive assembly when it cocked backwards to take another axe blow at an opposing robot. After Season 1.0, Pressure Drop was retired and replaced with the very popular Complete Control.

Much like its successor, its name is a reference to a song by English punk rock band The Clash of the same name.

Season 1.0[]
Pressure Drop vs. Subject to Change Without Reason Pressure Drop gets a late direct blow on Subject to Change Without Reason Pressure Drop's first match of the season was against Subject to Change Without Reason. Pressure Drop slowly moved out of its square and Subject to Change Without Reason started slamming into Pressure Drop. Pressure Drop attempted to hit Subject to Change Without Reason with its pickaxe, but missed and Subject to Change Without Reason stopped moving as it had fried its speed controller. Pressure Drop started walking slowly towards Subject to Change Without Reason, but couldn't make it there before the buzzer sounded. However, Young ignored the buzzer, walked Pressure Drop into position, and struck a blow on Subject to Change Without Reason's top. Young received a warning for this, but Pressure Drop still went through to the quarter-finals.
Pressure Drop vs. Ankle Biter Pressure Drop gets attacked by Ankle Biter. Next up for Pressure Drop was Ankle Biter, a robot Son of Smashy had beaten at Long Beach 1999. In this match, Pressure Drop slowly moved out of its square and Ankle Biter immediately got underneath it and shoved it across the arena. Ankle Biter slammed into Pressure Drop from the rear and eventually got underneath Pressure Drop again. As Pressure Drop got another slam against the spikestrip, Ankle Biter accidentally caught itself under the spikestrip and couldn't escape. Ankle Biter was being counted out and Pressure Drop got another lucky victory towards the semi-finals.
Pressure Drop vs. Deadblow Pressure Drop gets axed by Deadblow. Now in the final four, Pressure Drop took on Grant Imahara and Deadblow. Pressure Drop was unable to do much in this match as Deadblow kept hitting it throughout. Deadblow also set a record for jabs in a single fight (112). Deadblow won the fight on a unanimous 9-0 judges' decision and Pressure Drop was eliminated from the competition.
Middleweight Royal Rumble Pressure Drop also participated in the Middleweight Rumble at the end of the tournament. Unfortunately, Pressure Drop broke down early into the rumble and lost to Hazard overall.
