The Pistons are a retired BattleBox hazard which were seen during Season 3.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

They were large, pneumatically-powered cylinders which rose from the BattleBox floor in a similar vein to the Ramrods. Each one was marked by a red ring painted around the piston, to warn drivers of its presence. Although the pistons were effective at disrupting and even overturning robots which drove over them, and even breaking weapon systems through impact force in the case of Minion, they suffered damage from heavier robots driving into them over the course of the season.

Following Season 3.0, the pistons were officially retired and have not returned since.

Notable Uses[]

Minion Ogre piston shot Season 3

Minion loses use of its primary weapon following contact with the hazard.

Minion vs. Ogre[]

In the Round of 16 match between superheavyweights Minion and Ogre, Christian Carlberg tried to get Minion's disc to face its opponent. However, in doing so, he drove Minion into one of the pistons which had just activated.

The impact caused Minion's weapon belt to come loose, disabling its primary weapon for the remainder of the fight.

Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot vs. Blood Moon[]

Blood Moon piston KO Mouser Super Mecha Catbot Season 3

Blood Moon's controversial knockout.

During the Round of 32 fight between lightweights Blood Moon and Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot, Blood Moon was able to use its wedge to control Fon Davis' bot in the opening moments, threatening to attack with its vertical spinner. After driving over a piston which had just retracted, Blood Moon turned to show its wedge to Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot again and was flipped by the piston, beaching it on its flat side. With no way of self-righting, Blood Moon was controversially knocked out as a result of the hazard.
