Overhead spinners are often a powerful weapon that is easy to maintain and multiple variations exist. Notable robots with this type of weapon are: Hazard, Son of Whyachi, Perfect Phoenix and Exodus.
Advantages[]
- This type of weapon is a proven an effective and easy-to-build design.
- There is a small chance of weapon failure(unless you are fighting DUCK!).
- It can be hard to combat when fighting against it.
- If painted the right way, it can mislead the opposing driver into believing the reach is less than it actually is (as Icewave has done in the reboot).
- Depending on the design, an overhead spinning weapon can be used as a self-righting mechanism (as shown with Rambite and Helichopter in their respective matches against Slap 'Em Silly and The Crusher).
Disadvantages[]
- If the weapon goes down or is ineffective against the opponent, the robot using it may be left with a wedge or nothing at all but drive power (as Hazard has shown in its matches prior to Season 4.0).
- While easy to build, it's also an easy target as the weapon is powered by a motor, giving axes and hammers the upper hand.
- Most of these designs are not invertible so once they're flipped it's an instant KO (which is how Hazard's winning streak came to an end against T-Minus during Season 5.0).
- These weapons can be rendered useless if the opposing robot's height is lower than the height of the blade (as Voltarc showed on Bender.
