Overhaul is a heavyweight robot built by Charles Guan of Equals Zero Robotics, which has competed in numerous BattleBots World Championships as well as both series of BattleBots: Champions.

It was built by a group of MIT graduate students and was armed with an electric crushing jaw and lifting arm. The robot's design was an amalgamation of the designs of two smaller robots the team had built previously. Overhaul's debut year initially saw it lose a split judges' decision against legendary competitor Donald Hutson and his latest heavyweight robot, Lock-Jaw, though it would be reinstated by the selection committee as a wildcards. As a result, Overhaul earned redemption in the Round of 16 with a knockout victory over Lock-Jaw, before another close battle in the Top 8 saw it narrowly lose the judges' decision against eventual champion Bite Force.

Overhaul 2015 pits

Overhaul fitted with its shuffler mechanism during World Championship I.

The four main team members, Jamison Go, Adam Bercu, Charles Guan and Dane Kouttron, named the team JACD after the first letter of their respective forenames. After the 2015 season, some of the original team members went on to compete with their own robots, leading to the creation of Brutus, Road Rash and SawBlaze.

For World Championship II, Overhaul was completely redesigned with a revamped crushing jaw and lifting arm. It could swap its wheels out for shuffle pods, as proven in a rumble at the end of the tournament, though the robot retained its wheeled setup to be more competitive. However, despite picking up another wildcard from the selection committee, Overhaul lost its only competitive fights against British entries Cobalt and Beta.

Overhaul-Hero-S2018-1140x601

Overhaul returned for World Championship III but gained few visible changes apart from interchangeable wedges and teeth on the head for biting, lifting or keeping opponents at bay. Overhaul's team confirmed on Facebook that they would not return for World Championship IV due to lack of time to compete. Overhaul was also initially confirmed to be competing in World Championship V, but later dropped out to due to risks and restrictions caused by COVID-19.

After a two season hiatus, Charles Guan announced his return to BattleBots ahead of World Championship VI. Notable visual changes to Overhaul included its larger, exposed wheels for improved traction, and new chassis, which appeared to offer a shorter wheelbase. The cut-off wedged front from before had been replaced with a short, wide vertical plow with serrated forks in between the primary weapon. Though much of Overhaul's team had disbanded since 2018, Charles Guan had picked up several new teammates including Matthew Carroll, who was part of Bombshell in previous seasons, and Elizabeth Cao, who was part of Team Food Fight in World Championship V. She was also due to be part of multibot entry Caulk, but instead opted to assist with Overhaul. Charles Guan's bot opened its season against Ribbot, but suffered a quick loss after losing drive early on. It lasted longer against Aren Hill's Blip, but found itself in the air for much of the fight and was eventually knocked out for a second time. Post-season, Overhaul took part in the first ever chair fight, where it picked up a win against Big Dill.

Overhaul returned for World Championship VII, but sported no upgrades according to Charles Guan.[3] Its first fight came in the fourth episode, where it defeated a rookie bot in Starchild. Overhaul then lost consecutive fights to Claw Viper, Cobalt and SHREDDIT BRO!, ending its chances of a tournament place.

The team briefly returned for BattleBots: Champions II, but Overhaul was beaten by Lucky in Round 1 of the bracket.

Outside BattleBots[]

Overhaul at NHRL

Outside of BattleBots, captain Charles Guan competes with his 30lb replica of Overhaul, ironically named I Can't Believe It's Not Overhaul (originally, a 30lb version was named Überclocker 4.0). It has fought at numerous events over the years, such as Dragon Con in September 2017 and Motorama Robot Conflict in 2018. He also built a unique dual spinner called Stance Stance Revolution and a 250lb sportsman heavyweight called Sadbot.

The 2018 season build of Overhaul is now in the possession of National Havoc Robot League after being sold by Charles Guan. His team signed up for the July 2022 Robotica event in Houston, Texas with a renamed version of Sadbot, named Deferred Maintenance. It beat Avalanche, Rizon, Slammo! and HappyCatter before losing to Tiger Plywood. However, it finished with a victory over Piranha which resulted in a 5-1 overall record and a first place finish for Deferred Maintenance and Equals Zero Robotics.

The World Championship III build was sold to the National Havoc Robot League for their Bot Museum.

Overhaul vs. Lock-Jaw

Overhaul's BattleBots debut was against veteran builder Donald Hutson and Lock-Jaw.

Overhaul Lock-Jaw 1 - early attack

Overhaul is driven back by Lock-Jaw.

Early on, Overhaul was out-wedged by Lock-Jaw, who failed to clamp down in time and allowed Overhaul to escape. The Mutant Robots entry then slid its lower jaw underneath its opponent's left pontoon and rammed Overhaul towards the screws, but Team JACD's robot drove away from danger again.

Overhaul vs Lock-Jaw Fight 1 - 1

Lock-Jaw rights itself but remains in Overhaul's control.

The MIT entry honed in on a left-side wheel of Lock-Jaw before eventually grabbing its front. With Lock-Jaw perched on its rear wheels, it reversed to flip itself over in a most credited to Overhaul. Lock-Jaw recovered momentarily, but was carried across the length of the BattleBox and slammed into the wall.
Chris Rose: "So far, the youngsters guiding Overhaul, totally owning this fight against a legend."
Kenny Florian: "They are dominating so far!"
— Chris and Kenny express surprise at Overhaul's dominance
Overhaul vs Lock-Jaw Fight 1 - 2

Lock-Jaw tries to lift Overhaul, but upends itself.

Lock-Jaw was again driven into the rails, this time between the pulverizer and the drivers' booths. In retaliation, Lock-Jaw clamped down on Overhaul's right pontoon but let go, instead opting to drive its jaws underneath Charles Guan's robot. However, the weight distribution caused Lock-Jaw to flip forward rather than lift Overhaul.

Overhaul then led its opponent to the corner of the BattleBox, lifting Lock-Jaw from the front again. Lock-Jaw almost found itself hit by the pulverizer courtesy of Team JACD's Jamison Go, but the hammer missed with under thirty seconds remaining.
"Who's gonna leave that last impression on the judges?"
— Chris Rose pre-empts Lock-Jaw's final attack

Overhaul vs Lock-Jaw Fight 1 - final flip

Lock-Jaw overturns Overhaul in the final seconds of the fight.

In the closing moments, Lock-Jaw was able to slide its jaws underneath Overhaul's flank, ramming it directly into the screws and flipping it over. Unable to right itself before time expired, Lock-Jaw used its primary weapon to clamp Overhaul and drag it away in what was deemed a controversial late attack by Team JACD.

Kenny Florian: "They are very upset with that late hit."

— Team JACD and Kenny Florian react to the aftermath of Lock-Jaw's late attack

Handshake refusal Overhaul Lock-Jaw 1

Adam Bercu refuses to shake hands with Donald Hutson.

When Donald Hutson entered the BattleBox to power down his machine, he initially attempted to make amends with Adam Bercu, explaining that the late attack was accidental and offering to shake hands. Still upset, Team JACD's Adam Bercu refused while Charles Guan also believed that the hit was a case of "bad sportsmanship" on Hutson's part, in a brief interview with Alison Haislip.

The resulting 2-1 split decision ruled Lock-Jaw the winner. By this point, both teams had made up for the earlier controversy. Donald Hutson owed up to his miscommunication and both Adam Bercu and Charles Guan shook hands with the veteran builder after the decision was announced. Overhaul ultimately picked up a wildcard and advanced regardless as the No.11 seed.

Overhaul vs. Lock-Jaw

Overhaul returned to the competition, where it was immediately granted the chance to earn revenge over Lock-Jaw.

The pair met in the middle of the arena but neither got the upper hand from their first engagement. Overhaul then got to the side of Lock-Jaw, piercing its left-front tire and hoisting its opponent.

Overhaul continued its pin, taking advantage of the thirty-second rule on pins and holds. Eventually, almost a minute into the fight, Overhaul released, but remained hot on its opponent's heels.
"Well, Donald Hutson, one of the best drivers in the competition. Guess what? If your bot's is up in the air, you can't drive it!"
— Kenny Florian

Lock-Jaw is immobilized and counted out.

Now free from Overhaul's crusher, Lock-Jaw remained caught on the front of Charles Guan's robot and on its own lifting weapon. Lock-Jaw responded by firing its flamethrower, but the burst of flame did not deter Team JACD as Adam Bercu instructed his captain to "hold the pin".

A count began against Lock-Jaw just past the halfway mark and Overhaul was declared the winner of the rematch

Overhaul vs. Bite Force

In the final eight, Overhaul met the No.3 seed, Bite Force.

Bite Force Overhaul WCI 1

Bite Force grabs Overhaul but tips forward.

When the fight began, both robots were quick to go on the offensive, circling to find any openings they could. Bite Force was able to get under Overhaul in the first few exchanges, but the slippery MIT bot was able to escape before being lifted each time. Bite Force successfully got to the side of its opponent, pushing it across the box, but when it attempted to lift the larger bot it was unable to do so, instead nearly tipping itself over as Overhaul retreated once again. The two clashed near the corner, and Bite Force rammed the other machine into the wall several times before being pushed backwards.

BiteForcevsOverhaul BB2015

Bite Force almost flips Overhaul.

The two locked horns again, but this time Bite Force was able to fully get under Overhaul and push it into the wall on its back, attempting to flip it entirely. However, the competitor from MIT was able to avoid being flipped, slipping away from Bite Force once it was given space to breathe. Bite Force once again got underneath Overhaul as the two danced in the center of the box, but its wide footprint proved too much for Paul's robot to get a proper lift on, and instead Bite Force was forced to settle for tipping its foe up in the air to keep it from pushing back.

As Overhaul pulled back once more, Bite Force appeared to have brief mobility troubles, but was saved from a possible counterattack when one of the hellraisers popped up, trapping Overhaul's lifting scoop long enough to the WPI grappler to escape. The two machines continued to clash, with Bite Force shoving Overhaul into the rails again, but in the final minute Overhaul began to make up ground.
"In my eyes, Bite Force has a clear advantage up to this point. Just one more minute to make an impression on the judges should this go the distance."
— Chris Rose moments before Overhaul's late comeback

Bite Force Overhaul WCI 3

Overhaul bites its opponent's tread.

Ramming Bite Force into the corner, Overhaul was able to get a grip on its foe's side, using its crushing beak to clamp down on Bite Force's track and lift it up in the air. Paul flailed the lifter helplessly as he struggled to escape Overhaul's clutches, but was unable to stop his robot from being rammed against the screws.

Bite Force Overhaul WCI 4

Overhaul topples Bite Force late on.

Bite Force was then dragged across the arena and slammed into the opposite corner, where Overhaul was finally able to flip it over onto its side, pinning it in the corner until time ran out.

With such a close battle between two evenly-matched competitors, the judges entered the box to inspect the two robots personally in order to properly score the fight. Both teams waited with baited breath as the judges deliberated, and ultimately all three cast their scores in favor of Bite Force, sending it on to the semi-finals. and Overhaul was eliminated from the tournament.

Overhaul vs. Nightmare vs. Witch Doctor (Exhibition)

Overhaul returned for a three-way rumble at the end of the competition, where it took on Witch Doctor and Nightmare.

Nightmare got the first hit of the fight, turning sharply to hit the front of Overhaul. Witch Doctor took advantage of the distracted Nightmare, attacking its right flank. Witch Doctor, whose team had added flat additional armor to its front for this battle, went weapon-to-weapon with Nightmare and knocked it back before striking its wheelguard.
"This rumble's off to a frantic start! I don't even know where to look."
— Chris Rose

Witch Doctor is sandwiched between Overhaul and Nightmare.

Overhaul attempted a lift on Nightmare, but Witch Doctor's minibot, Shaman, obstructed the team's view with its flamethrower. Witch Doctor honed in on Overhaul, but quickly found itself stuck between both opponents. Despite its bent front forks, Overhaul was able to lift and overturn Witch Doctor as Nightmare landed a shot on Shaman which tore into its fuel tank and peeled open its chassis.

With Witch Doctor incapacitated, Nightmare and Overhaul duelled in the middle of the arena. The blade of Nightmare, which proved a constant threat to Team JACD's robot, made contact with Overhaul's frame several times.

Overhaul's bent forks rendered its lifting mechanism largely useless, though it still attempted to hook the uniquely-shaped frame of Nightmare. Soon after, however, Nightmare destroyed Overhaul's crushing mechanism, ripping the arm away from its weapon motor.

Overhaul vs. Cobalt

CobaltbsOverhaul bb2016

Overhaul takes a hit from Cobalt's spinning blade.

Overhaul's first match in the 2018 season was against the British entrant Cobalt. Despite the match being really close, one final hit from Cobalt's spinning blade caused one side of Overhaul's drive to stop entirely as the robot ran over a screw in the previous match and it jammed that side of the drive train. Since Cobalt was still moving freely, Overhaul was counted out and Cobalt won the match by KO at 1:26.

However, Overhaul was awarded one of the eight wildcards. It was given the No.24 seed and advanced to the Round of 32.

Overhaul vs. Beta

Returning to the competition, Overhaul met the No.9 seed, Beta. Both robots moved around trying to avoid the other's weapon. Beta managed to get a hit on Overhaul's weapon but no damage was done. Overhaul eventually found itself cornered and took a few blows from Beta's hammer. After a few more blows from Beta's hammer, Overhaul stopped moving as the impacts destroyed the power switch for the drive as well as the battery box. Overhaul was counted out and the time ran out before the countdown was finished. Beta won on a unanimous 3-0 judges' decision and Overhaul was eliminated from the tournament again.

Overhaul vs. SawBlaze vs. Road Rash (Exhibition)

RoadRash flipped Rumble bb2016

Overhaul overturns Road Rash.

Overhaul next participated in a small rumble with Road Rash and SawBlaze, with both opponents piloted by former members of Overhaul. Early on, Overhaul flipped over Road Rash, who had no way to self-right and was left near the screws. Overhaul than ran from SawBlaze, whom was chasing it around the arena and eventually got pinned up against the screws near the overturned Road Rash. In the end, SawBlaze won a unanimous 3-0 decision.

World Championship III[]

Overhaul vs. SawBlaze

SawblazevsOverhaul bb2018

SawBlaze slices into the rear of Overhaul.

Overhaul's first match was a rematch against Jamison Go's SawBlaze. For this fight, Overhaul was equipped with a unicorn horn in attempt to extend the reach of their weapon. The match didn't start off well for Overhaul at all as they were slammed hard into the arena wall. After some maneuvering, Overhaul found itself up against the arena barrier and taking punishment from SawBlaze's saw, which emitted plenty of sparks. Overhaul tried to retaliate but couldn't get under SawBlaze at all and was once again pushed around. Later on, Overhaul took another attack from SawBlaze but this time, Overhaul had seemingly gotten stuck or otherwise couldn't move and was counted out, giving SawBlaze the win by KO.

Overhaul vs. Chomp

Overhaul screws Chomp

Overhaul lifts Chomp against the screws.

Chomp axe Overhaul

Chomp lands an axe blow on the circling Overhaul in the final seconds.

Next up for Overhaul was Chomp. For this match, Overhaul added a hard hat with HUGE stickers on the front to protect the mechanism that powered the weapon as the team had thought they were facing HUGE. The match was off to a great start for Overhaul as its opponent couldn't land a single blow and it was able to push its opponent onto its side and hamper its efforts to self-right. Chomp tried to retaliate but Overhaul continued to control the fight, managing to eventually grab Chomp and take it up on to the screws. Unfortunately, Chomp's overall height made the task of getting it over the screws and arena barrier for a KO pretty much impossible so Overhaul was forced to let Chomp escape. As the match went on, Overhaul continued to control the fight and was able to grab Chomp again and take it to the killsaws, which caused sparks off of Chomp's side. After this, Overhaul started having drive issues that resulted from a wheel breaking loose that eventually led to the receiver shorting out the electronics, but there wasn't enough time left in the fight to count it out so Overhaul survived the entire fight. In the end, the judges awarded a 3-0 unanimous decision for Overhaul, allowing it to advance.

Overhaul vs. WAR Hawk

OverhaulvWarHawk bb2018

Overhaul lifts WAR Hawk against the wall.

Overhaul next found itself up against WAR Hawk. For this fight, the team added the unicorn horn in attempt to get underneath WAR Hawk and perhaps flip them over and/or control the fight and extra armor to hopefully minimize the damage from WAR Hawk's weapon. When the match began, Overhaul took a big hit from WAR Hawk, dislodging the extra armor on one side, leaving it to pivot 180 degrees and stick out beyond the chassis. After another impact, things took a turn in Overhaul's favor as WAR Hawk was having drive issues so Overhaul got underneath and lifted WAR Hawk into the air briefly. Overhaul then took another couple of hits from WAR Hawk but none severe enough to immobilize it. However, Overhaul soon suffered drive issues of its own as it was on top of the killsaws and took some damage. As the fight drew to a close, a fire broke out from inside Overhaul. Time ran out and the judges awarded a unanimous 3-0 decision to WAR Hawk.

Overhaul vs. Witch Doctor

Up next for Overhaul was Witch Doctor in a last-ditch effort to hopefully make the Top 16. For this fight, Overhaul went with the extra armor used in its previous match. The match was off to a poor start for Overhaul as they immediately lost the extra armor on the left side and were shoved across the arena by their opponent. Overhaul tried to maneuver around Witch Doctor but their opponent was just too quick and attacked the now exposed side armor. Overhaul continued to take impacts before it stopped moving near the pulverizer. Overhaul was counted out, giving Witch Doctor the win by KO.

Overhaul vs. Valkyrie (Exhibition)

ValkyrievsOverhaul1

Valkyrie goes for the jugular.

Overhaul also faced Valkyrie in a grudge match that did not count for the robot's record. For this match, Overhaul added a front wedge attachment in hopes of defending itself against Valkyrie's massive undercutting disc. When the match began, Overhaul was quick to reach Valkyrie, whom was mostly still on their side of the arena. Overhaul started to get the upper hand as they were keeping Valkyrie's weapon from causing any real damage. However, As Overhaul lifted Valkyrie up, their weapon took a big hit from Valkyrie's and the upper half was left dangling and rendered useless. Nevertheless, Overhaul had managed to flip Valkyrie and when they collided again, Overhaul lost the upper half of its weapon. With Valkyrie upside down and dealing with its weapon's gyroscopic forces, Overhaul pushed it into the arena barrier where Valkyrie's weapon created sparks before Valkyrie's own weapon tipped it up on its wheels. Overhaul then took one last collision that left both robots driving in circles and struggling to even reach each other. Both robots managed to lightly tap one another and were both counted out. The match ended up going to the judges, who ruled in favor of Valkyrie.

Ribbot watches on as Overhaul is counted out.

After two seasons away from BattleBots, Overhaul returned for the 2021 season. Its first opponent was Ribbot, who sported a blue shell with cat ears to pay homage to Charles Guan's bot. From the opening seconds, Overhaul took a hit to their forks from Ribbot's undercutter, who was able to evade and outdrive them. Overhaul suffered a second hit which sprayed small parts across the BattleBox. Ribbot showed no signs of stopping, and landed two further hits in quick succession which killed Overhaul completely. Overhaul was counted out, and Ribbot took the win by KO.

Overhaul vs. Blip

Next up for Overhaul was the flywheel flipper of newcomer Blip. Overhaul got the better of the first exchange by overturning Blip, who self-righted almost instantly. The two ended up in the corner where Overhaul lost a tire and was flipped again by Blip. Overhaul, now upside-down, could not catch a break as Aren Hill's bot kept attacking Overhaul, flinging it aside the Upper Deck on one occasion. After being coerced into the corner again, Overhaul was shoved against the wall, stuck on its side without either rear tire now. Blip won by KO, putting Overhaul to 0-2 and effectively ending their Top 32 hopes.

Overhaul received an exhibition battle following its disappointing main season. It fought Emmanuel Carrillo and Big Dill. This was not a standard fight, however, as both robots' lifting mechanisms had steel chairs attached to mimic a wrestling match. The themed fight was publicly announced on the BattleBots Facebook page on August 26, 2022 and is set to be released to Facebook Supporters before being uploaded to YouTube later in October as part of Vengeance in Vegas.[4] The fight began with Big Dill, whose chair was welded to its forks, getting its unique weaponry tangled in the grabbing mechanism of Overhaul. This caused Charles Guan's bot to drop its own chair, which it was simply holding onto. Big Dill landed several tame blows to the ears of Overhaul's arm before driving itself into the barrier and warping its own chair slightly. Overhaul picked up its steel chair and spun in place, but Big Dill swatted it out of Overhaul's grasp before chasing after its opponent as it attempted to recover its white chair. Big Dill hit Overhaul with its chair a few more times as both robots entered the short corner, and eventually drove up its side before escaping to the middle of the BattleBox. This allowed Overhaul time to recover its chair properly, and it charged at Big Dill, piercing its own chair as both robots swatted one another with their additional weapons. Overhaul then spun in place and hit Big Dill with the metal legs, which flew away on impact. This attack also resulted in Overhaul's left-rear wheel coming off as it used its chair to coerce Big Dill into the wall. Overhaul dropped its chair again, which had now been reduced to little more than just the seat and mangled framework, and set its sights on Big Dill. Overhaul grabbed the front of Big Dill and lifted it several times, but lacked the means to do much else. Big Dill charged at the side of its opponent, using its chair as a shield to nullify Overhaul's grabber and take it to the opposite side of the BattleBox. With a minute to go, Overhaul had given up on its chair and even became stuck on it momentarily, whereas Big Dill's was still welded to its forks. Overhaul threatened a lift once more, but could not topple Emmanuel Carrillo's bot. The next charge saw Big Dill's chair break off at last, and Overhaul finally landed a couple of successful flips. Big Dill self-righted, and both robots saw out the remainder of the clock without their steel chairs. The fight went to the judges, and Overhaul was declared the winner. Overhaul ultimately won the fight by judges' decision, earning its first victory since the 2018 season's Fight Night rounds, and only the third in its career.

Overhaul returned for BattleBots: Champions I, competing in the final Sin City Slugfest bracket. For this competition, Overhaul sported brand new wheels made from UMHW tubing with tread loaned from a lawnmower screwed into the hubs.[5] First up for Charles Guan's team were Team Uai!rrior and Black Dragon, who started the match by getting caught on a seam in the floor. Overhaul managed to slide its lifter in underneath the front of Black Dragon and upended it. Not only did it flip the Brazilian bot over, but Overhaul proceeded to grab, lift Black Dragon and slam it against the floor several times in an impressive show of aggression and control. Black Dragon eventually drove away, but one of its hinged wedgelets was now skewed. Overhaul continued its aggression, picking Black Dragon up again and attempting to feed it to the screws. It could only reach the housing, so instead lifted Black Dragon behind it and landed an impressive suplex. However, this also righted its opponent and allowed it to find space to spin up its eggbeater weapon. With its right-side fork still damaged, Black Dragon struggled to win the ground game but eventually landed a few blows to the underside of Overhaul's lower jaw. In these exchanges, Overhaul's left-front tire began to peel away from its hub and it lost the mounting plate for its right fork. Black Dragon got to Overhaul's side and propped it on two wheels against the screws. It then continued to attack the vulnerable treads, tearing into its right-rear wheel before throwing it over. The Brazilians drove Overhaul into the short corner and left it there as the fight went the distance. In spite of its dominant display in the first half of the battle, the judges awarded Black Dragon the win by unanimous decision and Overhaul was eliminated at the first stage of the bracket.

According to Charles Guan, he intended to fit Overhaul with the steel chair once again for this competition, but was discouraged from doing so by Trey Roski.[6]

World Championship VII[]

Overhaul vs. Starchild

In Overhaul's first Fight Night battle of World Championship VII, it took on a brand new robot - Starchild.

Starchild vs Overhaul WCVII teaser

Overhaul takes on Starchild.

The fight began with Starchild moving towards Overhaul and tried to attack it but missed. Overhaul then lifted Starchild and took it into the wall a few times. Starchild managed to deliver a shot to Overhaul's back. Overhaul then caught Starchild by the wheel and began to play the control game, taking Starchild around the BattleBox. Overhaul delivered Starchild to the screws but Starchild managed to escape. Both bots gave each other time to catch a breather. Starchild attempted to attack Overhaul several more times but kept missing.

Overhaul began to have drive issues on its right side. Starchild managed to deliver a couple more hits on Overhaul, but Overhaul caught Starchild briefly. Overhaul caught Starchild again and delivered it back to the screws. Both bots then jockeyed for position. Overhaul caught Starchild again and controlled it even as Overhaul was hit by the killsaws. As Overhaul released Starchild, Starchild hit Overhaul again. Overhaul pinned Starchild against the arena briefly.
The fight went the distance and the judges awarded Overhaul the win by unanimous decision, putting Overhaul at 1-0.

Overhaul vs. Claw Viper

Next up for Overhaul was fellow grappler Claw Viper, who pulled off a huge upset by defeating the previous season's No.2 tournament seed Ribbot in its last fight and sat at 2-0.

Claw Viper vs Overhaul WCVII 1

Claw Viper immediately topples Overhaul.

As its opponent awaited a box-rush, Claw Viper uncharacteristically drove towards Overhaul before speeding up and driving itself into the screws. It then reached to Overhaul's side and lifted, dropping and flipping Charles Guan's machine. Overhaul quickly recovered, but Claw Viper was quick to get in underneath again, twisting and turning around the BattleBox until it found an opening. Unable to gain much leverage, however, Kevin Milczewski improvised and hit reverse to ensure Claw Viper could continue to drive Overhaul towards the BattleBox hazards.

Overhaul broke free and enjoyed some breathing space as Claw Viper found itself stuck in one of the killsaw slots. However, as Charles Guan drove towards its opponent to try and attack, the 2-0 robot had become free. As both bots returned to the center of the arena, Claw Viper drove up the forks of Overhaul and the former Top 8 finisher scored a lift on Claw Viper before Kevin Milczewski's reversal saw his robot grip the forks and slam Overhaul into the screws.
"What a display of control and aggression. This is what Claw Viper has been doing to every opponent it's had."
— Kenny Florian

Claw Viper continued on, getting underneath Overhaul several more times and then inverting it. Charles Guan reversed into the Upper Deck as it tried to self-right, eventually doing just that. Overhaul was undeterred and locked horns with its opponent, coercing it into the short corner and taking advantage as Claw Viper showed its side to the 1-0 bot. Overhaul slid its forks underneath, lifting and then hooking Claw Viper's wrap-around armor before slamming it into the rails. Now it was Claw Viper's turn to be flipped over, though it self-righted with ease. In the closing seconds, Overhaul found itself picked up and carried, but the weight of its opponent caused the strap which limited the weapon's range of mobility to snap. Claw Viper spent the final seconds taking shots from the killsaws as the fight went the distance.

Overhaul again survived the full three minutes, but could not sway the judges as all three gave Claw Viper the nod.

Cobalt becomes stuck in the opening seconds.

Whereas Cobalt got its disc up to speed early, Overhaul kept its grabbing arm down and remained close to the rails. Cobalt quickly turned to face Overhaul, and in doing so, the gyroscopic forces in play lifted its right side onto the bumper. In a good act of sportsmanship, the Overhaul team opted to free Cobalt to continue the fight, but allowed the vertical spinner to get a hit to the underside of their machine.

Cobalt overhaul WCVII

Cobalt pins Overhaul against the wall.

As the fight moved to the center of the BattleBox, Cobalt got underneath the front of Overhaul and eviscerated the mounting plate for its right-side fork, causing the bolts to shear and spill across the arena floor. Cobalt got underneath again, flinging Overhaul through the air before throwing it over and taking off one of its rear wheels, but Charles Guan's bot recovered.
"Sub-optimal, sub-optimal... very, very sub-optimal."

Cobalt overhaul 2 WCVII

Sparks fly as Cobalt slices into Overhaul.

Although parts of Overhaul littered the BattleBox at this stage, its drive was still functional and it continued to meet Cobalt head-on. However, the motor powering its weaponry had come loose and dangled limply.
Cobalt overhaul ko WCVII

Overhaul is knocked out.

Cobalt remained patient before getting around to the side of Overhaul and driving it into the wall, throwing it through the air on impact. Overhaul landed upside-down and with its weapon disabled, had no way to self-right. The front-left wheel had also been buckled.

A count began on Charles Guan's bot, and Overhaul fell to a 1-2 record.

Overhaul vs. SHREDDIT BRO!

Last in Overhaul's schedule was Evan Arias and SHREDDIT BRO!.

Overhaul SHREDDIT BRO! WCVII 1

SHREDDIT BRO! is immediately grabbed.

Overhaul gingerly approached its opponent as SHREDDIT BRO! began by riding up the forks of Charles Guan's bot. Almost escaping, SHREDDIT BRO! was grabbed by Overhaul, who clamped down onto a tire and picked it up, before immediately dropping Team Shreddit's machine.

Shreddit Bro Overhaul teaser WCVII

Overhaul picks SHREDDIT BRO! up by its weapon.

SHREDDIT BRO! drove away, turning to face Overhaul with its primary weapon. However, Overhaul was quick to halt the eggbeater drum spinner and reached behind, hoisting SHREDDIT BRO! into the air and slamming it against the housing for the screws. Overhaul repeated this several times before finishing its attack with a flip, overturning SHREDDIT BRO!.

Overhaul SHREDDIT BRO WCVII

Overhaul slams SHREDDIT BRO! into the Upper Deck.

Overhaul gave chase and as SHREDDIT BRO!'s weapon was now spinning downward, Overhaul drove it into the Upper Deck, where it bounced upright again. SHREDDIT BRO! was picked up by its weapon and bashed against the hazard again, in a strong showing of control and aggression.

Overhaul SHREDDIT BRO! WCVII 2

SHREDDIT BRO! lands upside-down after attacking Overhaul head-on.

Releasing after a few seconds, Overhaul again flipped its opponent over before gripping the baseplate near the short corner. SHREDDIT BRO! drove away from danger, opting to drive into the front of Overhaul as sparks flew. Still inverted, it threw its spinning weapon into Overhaul again, but bounced upside-down once again. After a third attack, SHREDDIT BRO! finally righted itself, allowing its drum spinner to become considerably more potent. Although the weapon made contact with the BattleBox floor, it still landed a strong attack on Overhaul before being flipped twice more.

SHREDDIT BRO! Overhaul 3

Overhaul's tire is shredded by the killsaw.

SHREDDIT BRO! escaped and as Overhaul gave chase, its fork became stuck in the killsaw slot and the saw itself sliced into a tire. Looking to capitalize, SHREDDIT BRO! met Overhaul head-on, throwing it over and prompting celebration from Team Shreddit. Overhaul recovered but SHREDDIT BRO! fed its drum to Charles Guan's bot again, grazing the grabbing arm before throwing it through the air again. This was followed by a blow which bent the lifting forks and dislodged the connecting bar.

Overhaul damage SHREDDIT BRO WCVII

Damage to Overhaul at the end of the fight.

In the final twenty seconds, SHREDDIT BRO! remained aggressive as the damage racked up. Both robots were mobile at the end of the battle and a split judges' decision went in favor of SHREDDIT BRO!, pushing Overhaul to an undesirable 1-3 record and costing it a place in the Top 32.

Overhaul vs. Doomba (Exhibition)

Overhaul also took part in a special exhibition match filmed as part of Vengeance in Vegas II. It took on Doomba, and was also armed with a chainsaw between its grabbing jaws to honor its opponent.

Overhaul Doomba VIV2 Chainsaw Chain Snap

Overhaul snaps the chain of Doomba's weapon.

The fight began with Doomba slowly leaving its starting square as Overhaul was already crab-walking and suffering from drive issues on its right hand side. While Overhaul struggled to move, Doomba started attacking with its chainsaw, raising and lowering it as the chain on Overhaul's chainsaw snapped on impact with the floor. However, Overhaul raised its non-functional chainsaw and returned the favor, disabling Doomba's own weapon.

Doomba vs Overhaul VIV2

Overhaul approaches Doomba with two damages tires.

With both chainsaws out of action, Overhaul bumped into Doomba and knocked off its left googly eye. After Overhaul overturned one of the roomba minibots, Doomba began to spin its undercutter, chipping away at the tires of Overhaul. In this moment, it accidentally destroyed one of its own minibots before taking a chunk out of Overhaul's right rear tire. As it turned to face Doomba, the undercutter tore into Overhaul's right front tire, damaging both wheels on the side it was experiencing drive issues on.

Doomba vs Overhaul self-right VIV2

Overhaul flips Doomba, which promptly self-rights.

Halfway through the match, Overhaul's drive issues had disappeared and it started to whack at Doomba with its dead chainsaw. Overhaul eventually managed to knock Doomba over but Brice Farrell's machine successfully knocked itself back on its wheels. After this, Overhaul got a pin on Doomba and managed to grab on to it and carry it for a few seconds before dropping it in the middle of the BattleBox.

Doomba vs Overhaul VIV2 end

Doomba causes Overhaul to lose a second tire.

Both robots remained aggressive despite Doomba suffering some attacks from the killsaws. With thirty seconds remaining, Overhauls front right tire fell off until its back right tire also fell off ten seconds later. In the final seconds, Overhaul managed to tip Doomba on to its side with half of its drive down.

The exhibition went the distance and Doomba was declared the winner by split decision.

BattleBots: Champions II[]

Overhaul vs. Lucky

Overhaul also competed in BattleBots: Champions II, where it fought Lucky in the opening round of the penultimate Slugfest bracket. Pre-fight, Kenny Florian emphasized the importance of Overhaul gaining the upper hand on control, but believed it would need to bait Lucky into mistimed flips to stand a chance of advancing.

Lucky Overhaul BB Champs II 1

Overhaul is chased in the opening moments.

Following a tentative start from Charles Guan's team as they were chased by Lucky, Overhaul got the first attack in, sliding its forks underneath Lucky's front and lifting but failing to overturn Mark Demers' robot. Lucky reversed and then looked to attack, but mistimed a flip.
"Matt Olson looking to attack the flanks, able to get to the side but whiffs on the flip. No connections with that weapon so far, Chris."
— Kenny Florian

Lucky then caught Overhaul near the corner, pinning it from the side and then getting around to its back, but failing to gain the leverage required to throw Overhaul upside-down. After a patient spell from Matt Olson, Lucky eventually worked its flipper underneath the chassis of Overhaul and threw it against the Lexan near the drivers' booths.

Charles Guan's team landed a pulverizer shot on Lucky in response, followed by a series of flips resulting in Overhaul finding itself thrown atop the Upper Deck. Overhaul escaped via the hazard's front screws and was almost caught again by its opponent's punching flipper.

Overhaul achieved another lift on Lucky as the fight approached the halfway mark, but the Top 32 finisher slipped away from danger. Overhaul now appeared to be struggling from drive issues as Lucky landed another attack, this time flipping it over. Now wounded, Overhaul self-righted but the issues with its left-side drive became more evident.

Lucky Overhaul BB Champs II 4

Overhaul rights itself in the closing moments.

In the final minute, Lucky landed an uppercut to Overhaul but began smoking soon after. This meant both robots were experiencing compromised drive, but Matt Olson was still able to arc his robot under Overhaul and toss it over twice more.

Both robots survived the full three minutes in spite of their issues, and their respective drivers shook hands. All three judges voted in favor of Lucky, cutting Overhaul's run short.
