OverKill is one of twelve ShowBots which appears at BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon, the first BattleBots live event of its kind.

It is a modernized version of the iconic heavyweight robot from Team Coolrobots. Built with the input of its original designer, Christian Carlberg, it features a newly-machined version of its large serrated knife blade, manufactured from 3/8" thick AR500 steel. Images of the OverKill ShowBot also showed it sporting thinner wheels with white hubs and gray, foam-filled tires. However, OverKill has sported chunkier wheels in more recent shows. OverKill is one of the lightest ShowBots, weighing just 180lbs.[3]

On January 17, 2023, the team posted footage of the first ShowBot being tested.[4] In the replies to the video, Christian Carlberg addressed the decision for OverKill's new design to feature thinner wheels.

"That was a tough call for me. Everything needs to be easy and cheap to replace. The original wide tires were large custom foam filled whereas these tires are standard foam filled."
— Christian Carlberg on Facebook

OverKill was not available for the first few Destruct-A-Thon events for unknown reasons, but Christian Carlberg posted footage of it in the BattleBox in February 2023.[5] Having fought several times in the events which followed, it took on guest stars Hydra, operated by Jake and Terry Ewert. Since then, it has fought as a substitute in several BattleBots Proving Ground matches when one bot is unable to compete due to technical issues. It has been known to fight DOOM, Slammo!, Banshee, Traves T. and Hellfire, as well as Bronco while it was still operated by Inertia Labs.

OverKill vs. DOOM (5/13/2023)

OverKill's first appearance as a stand-in for a Proving Ground competitor came on May 14, 2023, where it took on DOOM after Slammo! was unable to compete in the Sunday show.

DOOM OverKill 1

DOOM leading with its fork.

DOOM was fastest out of its starting square, meeting OverKill in the center of the arena before driving away. OverKill got to DOOM's side momentarily, but failed to capitalize as its blade instead made contact with the vertical spinner of DOOM. Alejandro Pina's bot reversed before striking the front of the ShowBot, tearing away part of OverKill's right-side tire as it limped away.
Bil Dwyer: "BIG time damage, there!"
Steve Judkins: "That right wheel is in trouble... OverKill looking a little wonky after that hit."

DOOM carves into OverKill's wheel.

As OverKill struggled to drive away, DOOM dashed to the short corner before facing its opponent again, bringing the hammer saw over as it struck the front of OverKill's wedge. DOOM's next attack missed, but it swung again and shredded the wheel completely, leaving OverKill on just one tire with under a minute gone.

OverKill then adopted a makeshift sit-and-spin technique, but was scooped up by DOOM and driven to the opposite side of the arena. DOOM landed another swing of its weapon, this time on the blade of OverKill, before driving away again. The Team APT bot returned to the corner with its weapon at full speed, aiming for the remaining tire of OverKill as it landed a glancing blow to the ShowBot.

DOOM OverKill KO

DOOM's fortunes turn.

DOOM backed out of the corner and again struck the blade of OverKill square on, which was resilient to the hammer saw's repeated attacks. However, DOOM's weapon then struck the floor, causing the robot to bounce upward and land inverted. Its left-side arm also sheared as its weapon belt came loose as well.

Unable to self-right, OverKill took the win with 45 seconds left on the clock by knockout, despite damage sustained.

OverKill vs. Banshee (5/27/2023)

OverKill's next substitute appearance took place just a few weeks later against Banshee, where it was driven by Trey Roski.

Banshee OverKill 5-27 1

Banshee chases OverKill down after throwing it around.

David Small's robot immediately charged down OverKill, getting its forks underneath and showing early aggression. It then got around to the ShowBot's rear, but mistimed a weak flip. The flipper remained open for several seconds before Banshee slid underneath OverKill again, throwing its opponent towards the team booths.

Banshee OverKill 5-27 2

OverKill is momentarily stuck on its side.

OverKill drove away but was at the mercy of Banshee, who flipped and stranded it on one wheel momentarily. The ShowBot was able to wiggle free and landed on both wheels, but soon found itself scooped up by Banshee again.

Banshee OverKill 5-27 3

Banshee looks on as OverKill is counted out.

Banshee failed to capitalize on this attack and OverKill retaliated, using its wedge to ram it into the spiked barrier. Banshee got underneath OverKill's wheel again, but appeared to be suffering from weapon issues as it struggled to hoist its opponent. It remained aggressive, however, and drove OverKill knife-first into the arena wall.
Bil Dwyer: "Uh-oh, OverKill!"
Steve Judkins: "OverKill in trouble!"
— Both hosts react to OverKill's sudden loss of mobility

Both robots returned to the center of the BattleBox, and OverKill ground to a halt. A count began on the ShowBot, and Banshee took the win by knockout with ten seconds left on the clock.

OverKill vs. Banshee (5/28/2023)

OverKill took on Banshee for a second time across the May weekend.

OverKill Banshee 5-28 1

Banshee gets to the side of OverKill.

As in the previous fight, Banshee drove straight at OverKill, getting underneath and landing a flip which turned it over. It then reversed with the ShowBot sat atop Banshee, ramming it into the Upper Deck. Following a mistimed attack, Banshee then tossed OverKill over again before powering it into the screws, and then the housing for the hazard on the opposite end of the BattleBox. With a minute gone, Banshee lifted OverKill onto the Upper Deck as the screws chewed its tires momentarily, but the ShowBot escaped into the short corner.
"We wanna see some flippin' and OverKill floppin'!"
— Bil Dwyer encouraging Banshee to use its primary weapon

OverKill Banshee 5-28 2

OverKill escaping the Upper Deck.

Taking OverKill to the other corner now, Banshee continued to control its opponent while the ShowBot flailed its knife around but failed to hit its target. OverKill's right tire was visibly damaged at this point as Banshee managed to throw it onto the Upper Deck for a second time. David Small's bot waited in the short corner, forcing OverKill to escape via the screws.
"It's never too late in the fight to come back. Can OverKill get back into this fight?"
— Steve Judkins as OverKill shows a rare moment of dominance

OverKill Banshee 5-28 3

OverKill pins Banshee with under a minute remaining.

In a turn of fortune, OverKill's wedge got to the side of Banshee and drove it from the center of the BattleBox into the short corner, pinning it for several seconds. This attack was short-lived, however, and Banshee returned to flipping OverKill up and over in the closing minute of the fight.

Both robots survived the three minutes this time, and Banshee ultimately won by crowd vote, going 2-0 against OverKill.

BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon[]

OverKill vs. Bronco (Exhibition)

During the June 21, 2023 Destruct-A-Thon show, OverKill fought a special exhibition match against Bronco following its acquisition by BattleBots, three years since its last fight.

When the battle began, both bots moved away from the starting squares. Although Bronco rammed and pushed OverKill several times, it struggled to line up a flip on the slippery thwackbot due to traction issues and OverKill's unusual shape. After nearly thirty seconds of jockeying for position, Bronco finally delivered a flip, launching its opponent nearly eight feet in the air. OverKill struggled to recover, unable to escape before Bronco delivered another flip which sent the showbot tumbling onto the Upper Deck. Bronco moved into the short corner to block OverKill's escape, but the thwackbot instead chose to drive over the screws to freedom.
"Bronco, so much power, HE gets up in the air!"
— Bil Dwyer expresses amazement at Bronco's missed attack

Bronco's next attempt to launch OverKill resulted in the flipper bot flinging itself into the air, but it easily recovered and landed a shot that sent the thwackbot tumbling through the air. OverKill attempted to attack with its swinging blade, but Bronco flipped it on its face in retaliation. The two danced for a few seconds with neither getting the upper hand, but eventually Bronco flipped OverKill again, causing it to land on its blade.

Easily controlling the pace of the battle, Bronco boxed its opponent in near the driver's box, flipping it twice more. As the match entered its final minute, Bronco flipped OverKill on its side against the rails, beaching the ShowBot and preventing it from escaping. As referee Sean Bryan began to count out OverKill, Bronco lined itself up and flipped OverKill up and over the sideline barrier, winning by knockout with 16 seconds remaining on the clock.

Bil: "It was a little hard for you to get under OverKill, it seemed like."
Reason: "Yeah, yeah, definitely. They have the little ramps in there, so we could run a wedge in there, but you run the risk of getting caught up in the floor so we opted to not do that. So it takes a little more time to get underneath him, but we eventually got there."
— Bil and Reason discuss Bronco's difficulties lining up flips after the match

OverKill vs. Slammo! (7/8/2023)

OverKill would be drafted in once again for the July 8, 2023 show to take on Slammo!.

Slammo vs OverKill 1

Slammo! drives into OverKill.

Slammo! was quick to hunt down OverKill, dashing towards its starting square but then driving into the screws. Neither robot was able to mount a meaningful attack in the moments which followed until OverKill got underneath the side of Slammo! until Craig Danby's bot slipped away from danger.

Slammo vs OverKill

OverKill pins Slammo! against the BattleBox.

OverKill swung its knife as both robots were in the corner of the BattleBox but missed. With Slammo! experiencing drive issues, it was unable to get into a position to lift its ShowBot opponent and was out-wedged by its opponent again as the fight entered the final minute.

OverKill Slammo! sit and spin

Slammo! improvises with its impaired mobility.

Slammo! was pinned against the wall in front of both teams, escaping by driving in arcs with its left side drive seemingly disabled. In response, Craig Danby's robot adopted a sit-and-spin technique to show aggression and struck OverKill several times.
"Wow... spinning! Look at that!"
— Bil Dwyer

The ShowBot drove over the killsaws before driving its wedge underneath the now-smoking Slammo!. The fight ended with Slammo! acting as a thwackbot, having not used its lifter throughout the three minutes.

In spite of this, Slammo! was declared the victor in a crowd vote.

OverKill vs. Traves T. (8/5/2023)

The following month, OverKill replaced the ill-fated Snakebyte for the first of |Traves T.'s two fights.

Traves T

Traves T. lays into OverKill.

Traves T. drove towards OverKill with its horizontal spinner quickly getting up to speed. OverKill gingerly approached with its knife pointed at Kurt Kreuger's robot. However, as Traves T. quickly spun to face the ShowBot, it tore into OverKill's exposed tire, leaving much of its right wheel littered across the BattleBox floor.

OverKill post Traves T

Damage to OverKill post-fight.

OverKill turned to face Traves T., but the rookie robot sliced through the other tire, ripping the wheel away with it. Traves T. backed away as the rim of OverKill's remaining wheel spun hopelessly inside the tire.

Despite late drive issues from Traves T., OverKill was left unable to move. A count began on the ShowBot, confirming a win by knockout for Traves T. on its debut.

OverKill vs. Hellfire (1/28/2024)

In the second Proving Ground fight of 2024, OverKill was substituted in to fight Hellfire as Traves T. was unable to make repairs in time to return for a second battle.

Hellfire OverKill OOTA PG

Hellfire flies out of the arena,

Rick Russ' robot got its blade up to speed, but immediately became unbalanced on impact with the ShowBot's wedge. Hellfire was sent twisting through the air, bouncing around in the corner before landing on the other side of the arena wall.
Bil Dwyer: "OHHH! OHH-WOOAHHH!!"
Steve Judkins: "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!"
