For the ShowBot which competes at BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon live events, see OverKill (ShowBot).
OverKill was a heavyweight robot built by the experienced Team Coolrobots which competed in all five televised seasons of Comedy Central BattleBots. The team had previous success with their superheavyweight robot, Minion.
OverKill was a standard wedge-shaped robot with two large drive wheels. Its main weapon was a huge swinging knife blade, referred to as a 'Rambo knife.' The knife was attached to the main body of the robot, which rotated through 180 degrees to swing it overhead and slam down onto opponents, though only if the robot was driving toward the weapon. While the weapon did not cause any significant damage, the visual appeal and wide attack range were heavily influential in judges' decisions. The knife blade was made of a high-tensile steel, effectively making it a 'spinner killer' as spinners that hit the blade would often end up breaking their own weapon. OverKill proved to be one of the most reliable and durable robots in the competition, only ever losing by way of judges' decisions. For Season 2.0, OverKill received some upgrades in response to its losses in the previous season. These included foam-filled tires to prevent future punctures and a tougher wedge which was bolted to the main chassis, complete with side panels.
Minor modifications were made to OverKill for Season 3.0, mainly concerning its aesthetics as Team Coolrobots began a sponsorship contract with Wizards of the Coast, who supplied the team's robots with decals advertising its Magic: The Gathering trading card series. OverKill remained visually similar for its final two seasons.
Though OverKill never won a championship in its career, it still enjoyed high levels of success. It tied with Punjar for the winner of the heavyweight rumble in Season 2.0 after having dominated almost the entire battle. In addition, it finished as runner-up in the heavyweight competition in Season 4.0 and ended the first run of BattleBots as the No.2 ranked heavyweight. OverKill was essentially a scaled up version of the team's lightweight robot Toe-Crusher and an updated version of the team's former heavyweight Slugger. Christian Carlberg was fond of Toe-Crusher's performance and the idea of a giant knife weapon, thus OverKill was created.
Team Coolrobots also returned for the ABC and Discovery reboot seasons, entering with OverDrive, Mecha Rampage and Yeti. During a Reddit AMA, it was confirmed that the team still own all three Comedy Central era robots,[1] with Carlberg himself owning two spares of OverKill's blade in storage.[2] In April 2022, Christian Carlberg gifted OverKill's iconic spare blade to Bot Bash Party Crew, who compete with Skorpios.[3]
In January 2023, it was confirmed that OverKill would return for BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon live shows, alongside a number of other Comedy Central era robots. For more on that specific robot, see here. Christian Carlberg confirmed in November 2025 that the original OverKill would be displayed at Destruct-A-Thon.[4]
Outside BattleBots[]
OverKill took on Tazbot in an exhibition battle for Hasbro IBM in a dedicated, smaller arena. The winner of this is not known. Other robots which featured include Diesector, Vlad the Impaler, Ginsu, BioHazard, Ziggo and Toe-Crusher. OverKill also featured on the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode titled 'Precious Metal', alongside several other robots such as Diesector.
In November 2025, the original OverKill was displayed at a Girls Scouts STEM Exhibition in November 2025.

Heavyweight Royal Rumble OverKill also entered the Heavyweight Royal Rumble at the end of the season. It did fairly well at the beginning of the rumble, attacking Knome II with its knife blade, but was eventually immobilized after getting its tires punctured. OverKill lost overall to BioHazard. |
Season 2.0[] |
OverKill vs. Iron Eagle OverKill's first fight was up against the Japanese entry Iron Eagle. OverKill approached Iron Eagle immediately, swinging its weapon, before Iron Eagle backed off and retreated into the killsaws. Iron Eagle recovered and started to move around the BattleBox. OverKill got in several good blade hits on Iron Eagle, before Iron Eagle backed up the arena entry ramp, high-centering itself. Unable to move with its wheels off the ground, Iron Eagle was counted out by the referee and OverKill took the win by knockout. |

Heavyweight Consolation Rumble OverKill returned for the Heavyweight Consolation Rumble towards the end of the season. In the earlier stages of the rumble, it drove around the BattleBox aggressively, getting under Bigger Brother and ramming it into the wall. OverKill then disabled Gammatron's weapon by swinging its blade at it, before damaging Punjar's armor by doing a similar maneuver. However, OverKill was flipped by Surgeon General, which left its blade now useless. OverKill was still able to cause damage though, snapping off Mjollnir's weapon by driving over it and attacking the disabled Mauler, which had been flipped by Bigger Brother earlier on. During the closing stages of the rumble, OverKill began to slow down due to damage it received to its internal components but was still mobile at the end of the rumble. As a result of the earlier carnage, and being one of the few robots moving at the end of the fight, OverKill and Punjar were declared the winners of the consolation rumble and both robots advanced to the Heavyweight Royal Rumble. |
Heavyweight Royal Rumble OverKill performed decently in the Heavyweight Royal Rumble, as it was one of many robots still moving in the end, but it lost to Tazbot overall. |
Season 3.0[] |
OverKill vs. M.O.E. OverKill's first fight of Season 3.0 came in the Round of 64 up against a heavily-redesigned M.O.E.. For this battle, Team Extreme had constructed a "Voodoo OverKill" out of roller skate wheels and cardboard. M.O.E. drove into OverKill early on, but OverKill got away, taking a hit from the killsaws as it did. OverKill drove around to the side of M.O.E. and pushed it around the BattleBox, but M.O.E. escaped and hit OverKill's wheel with its ditch cutter. However, it did no damage and OverKill continued to push M.O.E. around with its wedge, stopping the ditch cutter in the process. OverKill whacked M.O.E. with its blade and then rammed M.O.E. with the wedge, continuing to use the blade as M.O.E. spun the ditch cutter up to its top speed again. M.O.E. continued to drive after OverKill until it got scooped up by the wedge again, pushed around the BattleBox and whacked by the blade numerous times. M.O.E. finally got the upper hand as it wedged OverKill's blade into the lexan, keeping it from moving, but OverKill managed to free itself. OverKill hit M.O.E. with the blade numerous times until the fight ended. OverKill won on a 28-17 judges' decision and advanced to the Round of 32. |

Heavyweight Royal Rumble OverKill again participated in the Heavyweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. First it pounded frenZy and then hit Little Sister. It next went after frenZy again before beginning to strike MechaVore. After scooping up MechaVore and shoving it into the wall, OverKill turned its attention towards HexaDecimator, but was flipped by the Team WhoopAss bot. After clashing with frenZy again, OverKill returned to scoop HexaDecimator and drove it into the spikestrips. After being attacked by GoldDigger, OverKill returned to face frenZy once more, before going after Nightmare. OverKill was one of six robots still moving at the end of the rumble, but lost out to HexaDecimator. |
