Oishi was an antweight robot built by Pete Abrahamson of Team Sinister which competed in the BattleAnts event held during Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.
It was an invertible, tracked robot armed with an articulated lifting plow at the front decorated with the word 'Sinister' on the front, denoting its team. Like Abrahamson's heavyweight turned superheavyweight robot Ronin, Oishi's name also references Japanese culture as the word 'oishi', sometimes spelt 'oishii' (Japanese: (美味しい) translates to 'tasty' or 'delicious'. Oishi performed well during the competition, advancing to the final. Though two of its opponents in the bracket remain unknown, what is known is that it ultimately lost out to Hoser'd.
Outside BattleBots[]
Oishi was the No.6 ranked 1lb robot as per the SOZBOTS site's 2002 rankings.[1] It fought at SOZBOTS 1.1, receiving a first round bye before defeating Scara and DoLittle. After losing to Killer, Oishi entered the loser's bracket where it lost in a rematch against DoLittle.[2]
Returning for SOZBOTS 1.2, Oishi won its opening round battle against UFO. It then lost successive fights to Complete Ripoff and LB, confirming its elimination.[3] By this point, Oishi had fallen to joint No.16 in the rankings.[4]
Oishi lost both of its fights at SOZBOTS 1.3, first to Scalpel and then to Jason's Revenge.[5] It is not known to have competed again after this.Citation?
