Nyx was a heavyweight robot designed and built by Team XBot which applied for BattleBots World Championship VI.
- "Our goal is to bring a robot to the show who is fast, innovative, and fun to watch"
- — Francis Roy of Team XBot.[1]
The team was made up of long-term BattleBots fan Graham McBain, who picked up seven engineering students from the University of Sherbrooke to help construct Nyx.
Nyx was a four-wheel drive, invertible robot designed to resemble a penguin, bearing a wedge at the front. The wedge had a rectangular hole cut into it in which Nyx's primary weapon was housed - a pneumatic puncher shaped like penguin's beak, which Team XBot claimed could punch upwards of 650lbs. Nyx also boasted significant redundancy, boasting a total of four independent propulsion modules to power the puncher.
- "Our team love challenge and mix represent this philosophy. We chose a design that goes off the beating track but that can also survive a full match and it ought to give a good show. The fast and memorable side of Nyx comes from my background as a motorsport driver. My driving style has always been described as aggressive but not out of control. So I want a robot that allows me to put my driving skills to good use"
- — Francis Roy of Team XBot in their BattleBots application video.[2]
They posted their application video in March 2021, and despite building the robot, were ultimately not selected for the competition.[3] It is unknown if the team intend to reapply for future BattleBots competitions.
