Battlebots Superheavyweight Neptune Testing (January 2001)
Neptune testing video.
It was a barrel-shaped robot armed with six tethered-harpoons, named "The Bottery", on top of a four-wheel drive aluminum frame. It was a very unique robot, as it was the only robot at BattleBots Season 3.0 to use tethered projectiles as a weapon, and was the first robot at BattleBots competition to use any projectiles of any type. It used six pneumatic tethered harpoons that would fire into its opponent. However, each of these harpoons had only one shot, so Neptune could only use its weapon six times in battle. Neptune lost its first match and did not return after Season 3.0, although the team did compete in Seasons 4.0 and 5.0 with a lightweight named Death Ray.
Team Stingray with Neptune at Season 3.0
Neptune was most likely named after the Roman ocean god of the same name.

Neptune vs. JuggerBot The damage done to Neptune by JuggerBot's initial ram. Neptune fought JuggerBot in its only fight. Before the fight even began, two of Neptune's harpoons fired, meaning Neptune only had four remaining. This was because the team decided to turn the harpoons off for the battle, because they knew the weapon would be useless against the quick JuggerBot. When the fight did begin, JuggerBot slammed into Neptune's right front wheel before it could even move, breaking the wheel entirely. Neptune was rammed repeatedly by JuggerBot until its driver tapped out. |
