Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.), also shortened to Mother Of All Bots or M.O.A.B.. was a middleweight robot built by students of Olathe Northwestern High School, which competed in BotsIQ 2008 and the 2009 BattleBots High School Championship.

It was a four-wheel drive, wedged box-shaped robot with Lexan armor around the sides and rear. The robot's main weapon was a pneumatic four-bar flipper which operated at 150psi. According to its Builders Database profile, was intended to throw opponents out of the BattleBox arena.[1] The design was inspired by the RoboGames competitor Botfly.[2]

Despite the potential of its weaponry, Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) endured a very difficult run in the High School Championship, losing its first match to ODDBOTT 3.75. A bye through the Loser's Bracket preceded a second loss to The Piecemaker, eliminating it from the competition with a winless fight record.[3][4]

Mother Of All Bots also competed under the name Spatha at BotsIQ 2008 competition, where it went 2-2.

Olathe Northwest High School also entered Optimus Prime into the 2008 edition of BotsIQ. They would later also Shrapnel and Diesel after previously entering Huey, The Chupacabra, PacBot, Gnarkill, and Vexation.

Robot History[]

BotsIQ 2008[]

Spatha vs. ?

Spatha's first match of the tournament was against an unknown opponent. Spatha's speed controller failed and wound up being hit by the pulverizer 18 times. Despite this, Spatha suffered minimal damage and was easily repaired. Spatha still was knocked out and moved into the loser's bracket.

Spatha vs. Ambika

Spatha's first match of the loser's bracket was against Ambika. After sizing each other up, Spatha was able to get under Ambika's front wedge and flip it over. This gave Spatha a large advantage to slam Ambika into the wall multiple times. One of these slams righted Ambika, but it was quickly tuned back over with another flip. Spatha was able to deliver a few more flips, eventually wedging Ambika upside down against the wall. This gave Spatha the win by knock out.[5]

Spatha vs. Mr. Plow

Spatha's next match was against Mr. Plow. Most of this fight consisted of the two robots trying to get under each other and then reversing out of danger. Late into the fight, Spatha was able to get under Mr. Plow's side and turn it over. This flip knocked out Mr. Plow, and Spatha advanced to the next round.[6]

Spatha vs. iWedge

Spatha's final match of the competition was against iWedge. Again, this match was a lot of pushing and vying for getting under each other. Spatha was able to get a flip during the match which wasn't able to get iWedge over. In the end, iWedge was able to win a split decision, and Spatha was eliminated from the competition.[7]

High School Championship 2009[]

Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) vs. ODDBOTT 3.75

Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) first fought the wedge-shaped rammer of ODDBOTT 3.75. Very little information on this battle is available, though BattleBots records confirm that Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) was defeated by knockout after two minutes and 36 seconds.[3][4]

Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) vs. The Piecemaker

Now relegated to the loser's bracket, Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) next received a bye before facing The Piecemaker, another robot armed with a pneumatic flipper. BattleBots records state that, similarly to its previous bout, it suffered a knockout loss after two minutes and 29 seconds. Mother Of All Bots (M.O.A.B.) was therefore eliminated from the High School Championship at this stage with a 0-2 record.[3][4]
