Monster was a heavyweight robot built by Kevin Knoedler of Team Monster Robots, which competed at the 1999 BattleBots Long Beach and Las Vegas competitions, as well as Season 1.0 of the televised Comedy Central series.
It was a four-wheel drive, box-shaped robot armed with a single ramming spike at the front, increasing to a total of three spikes for later competitions. Invertible by nature, Monster performed modestly, in competition winning a couple of fights across three events but falling in the brackets to experienced opponents.
Monster also originally competed at the Robot Wars 1997 event with a largely similar appearance, made from 3/16" inch steel with 1/4" thick Lexan top and bottom panels.[1] Monster notably did not utilize orthodox speed controllers, instead using a relay system due to time constraints ahead of the event after custom speed controllers proved ineffective.
After losing its first fight to BioHazard, it was relegated to the losers bracket, where it lost again to Hercules and was eliminated from the competition.
Builder Kevin Knoedler, also entered superheavyweight Cyclone into Seasons 2.0 and 3.0 and lightweight Wireless Wonder into Season 5.0.

Monster vs. KillerHurtz Monster's first match in Comedy Central BattleBots came against Team Hurtz and KillerHurtz. In the match, KillerHurtz immediately got its axe into Monster, where it broke one of Monster's drive chains. While KillerHurtz was only going forward due to technical issues, Monster got stuck on the spikestrip and KillerHurtz got one more blow on top of Monster before it was counted out. This meant that Monster was eliminated from the tournament once again. |
Heavyweight Royal Rumble However, Monster returned for the Heavyweight Royal Rumble at the end of the competition. Monster immediately went at OverKill and bounced off Nightmare from its disc. Monster was then lifted by Tazbot and almost flipped. Monster then got underneath Mauler and Kill-O-Amp started pushing both of them against the spikestrip. At that moment, Monster stopped moving and was pushed against the spikestrip. It played no further role in the rumble, which was again won by BioHazard. |
