Middleweight robots, originally called Megabots and known during BattleBots IQ as the Large Class, was the name given to BattleBots competitors which weighed up to 120lbs, though this rule changed over time.
For the inaugural event in Long Beach, California, a Megabots class was devised for robots weighing 56-109lbs, with robots weighing 110lbs and over being considered Kilobots (later known as 'heavyweights'). For the televised seasons on Comedy Central, however, the name officially changed to 'middleweights' and with that saw a revised weight limit. Middleweights now had a minimum weight limit of 59lbs, and could weigh up to 115lbs.
As BattleBots was axed, middleweights became the standard division to promote towards high schools and colleges. The Large Class was introduced with an upper weight limit of 120lbs - a rule which would remain consistent for each and every subsequent event, including the one-off events such as the NPC Charity Open, R3: Rochester Robot Rampage, Cisco Party and JavaOne events held between 2004 and 2007. With the increase to a maximum of 120lbs, middleweight walkers were now also allowed to weigh from 78-158lbs.
