For the robot from Team Malice which debuted in World Championship V, see Malice.
Malice is one of twelve ShowBots which appear at BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon, the first BattleBots live event of its kind.
It is largely similar to the version of Malice which fought in World Championship VII, but with several noticeable changes. Firstly, its top armor was manufactured from two parts as opposed to being a single piece of solid UMHW plastic, meaning the team were able to give it a more colorful appearance. As such, the Malice ShowBots have red and black top armor as opposed to being predominantly black.[2] Malice's ShowBots also sport off-the-shelf, foam-filled tires as opposed to the comparatively more expensive and harder to obtain custom wheels seen on its competitive counterpart.
As with all other ShowBots, Malice is standardized to use OYES switches made by Team End Game, as well as lithium iron phosphate batteries as opposed to lithium polymer batteries. The latter was enforced to reduce the risk of hazardous fires during shows.[3] Malice's ShowBots are also equipped with a flamethrower, unlike its televised counterpart.
Malice was originally set to be driven by Bunny Liaw for the first time during the inaugural live show, but control was handed over to World Championship VII designated driver David Rush at the last minute due to lack of practice. Rush is an employed driver for Destruct-A-Thon, and often drives the Malice ShowBot, among others.
