Lunar Eclipse is a 15lb robot which competed in BattleBots: Metal Mayhem - a high school and college competition held as part of SXSW 2024.
It is a four-wheel drive robot armed with a pair of lifting arms and an overhead grabbing arm designed to look like the head of a mythological creature. Similar to Claw Viper, both weapons work in tandem, allowing Lunar Eclipse to grab and lift opponents in the air. The robot features two metal forks sandwiched between each of its machined arms. Lunar Eclipse impressed in its opening battles, going 3-0 after defeating all of its group opponents, but was abruptly eliminated in the knockout bracket at the hands of Holy CR@B.
The robot was built with support from Placer Advanced Robotics and Technology. PART, also known as Placer Robotics, is a non-profit organization specializing in combat robotics. The organization supported five competitors for the March 2024 event, including The Dishwasher, The Executioner, Not Scott and Slightly Above Average, though the latter would ultimately not compete.[1]
Outside BattleBots[]
Lunar Eclipse also fought at Sacramento Bot Battles after its BattleBots: Metal Mayhem appearance. It is not known how well it performed, though Lunar Eclipse is known to have fought and beaten Executioner as per a video uploaded by team member Dorian Todd.[2]
