Jack the Flipper was a lightweight robot built by Team Methodical Robots which competed in Season 4.0 and Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots. It was a silver square-shaped robot armed with a flipping arm. It performed decently in competition, winning two matches overall.
The robot's name is a pun off of the serial killer Jack the Ripper. Artwork on the top was done courtesy of Dave Dorman. The builder, Steve Fikar, has unfortunately passed away.
Robot History[]
Season 4.0[]
Jack's first opponent in BattleBots was against Little Punch. Both robots showed good pushing power early on. Jack the Flipper tried to get its flipping arm to work on Little Punch, but it was ineffective. Partway into the fight, Little Punch started moving intermittently, seeming to pause after each hit from Jack the Flipper, who eventually won a 30-15 judges' decision. This win put Jack the Flipper to the next preliminary round, where it faced Ack-Ack!.
Both bots hardly touched each other in this match. While they quickly circled and maneuvered, trying to get position for their lifting arms, Jack the Flipper accidentally slammed into the arena wall and jammed its tail under the spikestrip. Ack-Ack! tried to come over and lift it, but couldn't seem to get underneath and Jack the Flipper remained stuck under the spikestrip. Jack the Flipper was being counted out and Ack-Ack! won the match by KO, eliminating Jack the Flipper.
Season 5.0[]
Jack the Flipper's first match of the season was against The Pipe. Jack the Flipper won the match on a 30-15 judges' decision and advanced to the next preliminary round, where it faced The Crusher. The Crusher won the match on a 26-19 judges' decision and Jack the Flipper was eliminated from the tournament again.
