- "Yes, BattleBots would like to open the door to a new "anything goes," innovative class. Currently, there are NO rules and NO weights for this class. Eventually, we'd like to make this into official classes, complete with rules and regulations, but for now, we need to experiment, show and tell, and see what builders come up with."
- — The Innovative Class as explained on the archived BattleBots website[1]
The Innovative Class was a conceptualized weight division for the BattleBots Championships held between April 21-26, 2009.
The idea was to encourage larger, heavier robot designs without conventional limitations enforced by the weight and size limits of other divisions. Innovative Class robots could either fight other robots, or partake in demonstrations if preferred. The reason for its cancelation is unknown, but it was not recognized on the official tournament rules document.[2]
It is unknown whether any robots applied for this division prior to its cancelation, and the division has not been revived since.
