Hot Pizza was a heavyweight robot built by North Street Labs with the intention of competing in BattleBots World Championship VII.
It was a two-wheel drive, diamond-shaped robot designed to resemble a pizza box. The robot was armed with a horizontally-mounted spinning disk with cartoon-like eyes on the front, weighing 80lbs in total. Due to its large, protected wheels protruding from the top of the chassis, Hot Pizza could run both ways up. Little else is known about the robot, though its initial design was revealed in December 2021 and construction began in early 2022.[1][2] The team began constructing Hot Pizza's weapon hub in April 2022, as seen on their Instagram page.[3]
Hot Pizza's Alex Watson and Stephen Shaffer were picked up by Team Overboard and Triton to gain more combat robotics experience, confirming Hot Pizza's rejection.[4] The team designed a brand new heavyweight robot, Max Q, in 2023[5] and Alex Watson later joined the Destruct-A-Thon engineering team.
Trivia[]
- Hot Pizza's Stephen Shaffer helped build a giant tic-tac-toe machine as well as building the "world's largest" vending machine as a project for Doritos, known as the Doritos Dropper.[6]
- Had it been selected, Hot Pizza would have been the second pizza-themed robot to compete in World Championship VII; the other being RIPperoni.
