Not to be confused with Team Hot Mess, who fought with Doomba in World Championship VII.

Hot Mess is a heavyweight robot built by Team HyperShock which competed at BattleBots FaceOffs.

It is a two-wheel drive, invertible robot armed with a 50lb horizontal spinner on the rear, with interchangeable front attachments. The design of the robot was revealed on December 16, 2024 through an Instagram post by Team HyperShock, which also explained that Hot Mess would be replacing Vertigo.[1] Armored in ³⁄₁₆" AR steel[2], Hot Mess bears a strong resemblance to an archetype of robots utilizing a similar setup - the most popular of these being Sean Becker's 1lb robot Thagomizer. Will Bales confirmed Thagomizer to be a "massive inspiration" for Hot Mess, which measures around 44 inches from end to end.[3][2]

In addition to the main robot, Hot Mess featured a 35lb robot called Scrappy Joe, armed with a flamethrower and chainsaws. By definition, as Scrappy Joe weighed around 15lbs over the minibot limit, this therefore made Hot Mess a multibot as per the BattleBots Design Rules in place since 2019. The robot was constructed over a period of three weeks after various issues prevented Vertigo from being constructed. This meant that Hot Mess was constructed of mostly spare parts from HyperShock, including wheels with bright red hubs and a drisk borrowed from the team's main heavyweight. The weapon hub, however, was new for this build.

Hot Mess adopted Vertigo's FaceOffs schedule, taking on Slammo!, Cobalt and Warthog. After its group, Hot Mess became a display piece for the Destruct-A-Thon live show.
