Gulli was originally launched in November 2005 under the ownership of France Télévisions and Lagardère Active. Shares were transferred in December 2015 which meant Gulli was under the sole ownership of Lagardère Active.
The channel airs a variety of children's programming, such as cartoons, films and live action series. Timeslots are typically given different names, each denoting a certain genre of content. These include Gulli Prime for the teenage and young adult demographic, Gulliwood for films, Gulli Up for early morning children's shows, and Gulli Midi which airs at 11:45am daily.
Gulli launched a high definition channel in July 2015. The channel was acquired by the M6 Group in 2019.
