GrassKicker, stylized as grASSKICKER is a heavyweight robot built by Team SR-21, which applied for BattleBots World Championship VI. The team previously attempted to qualify with Wildfire.
It is a box-shaped, six-wheel drive[1] robot armed with a long, angled bar spinner at the front. Grasskicker was designed to resemble a lawnmower, a theme reinforced by the bot's color, weaponry and push handle at the back, which could double up as a self-righter.[2] According to the team, the bar spinner had a maximum tip speed of 147mph, powered by a large 19hp motor.[3] As well as this, GrassKicker sported a front-mounted flamethrower as a secondary weapon. GrassKicker utilized wood in its construction, though the team have upgrading this to steel for future and more finalized versions.
GrassKicker's application was submitted in 2021, accompanied by several YouTube videos promoting their build.[4] The team supposedly accepted to compete, but withdrew due to lack of teammates. However, they stated their intention to compete in future seasons of BattleBots.
Team captain Korey Kline previously built a number of robots for the Comedy Central seasons of BattleBots: TriMangle, Surgeon General and Rammstein. In 2015, he built Mohawk for World Championship I.
Trivia[]
- Korey Kline was listed in the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records for the highest amateur rocket flight.
- According to an April 2021 Instagram post, GrassKicker was initially going to be armed with a vertical spinner, but opted against this due to "vulnerabilities" associated with them.[5]
