Grabbers are a type of controlbot weaponry which look to hold and control BattleBots opponents, forcing them into BattleBox hazards.

Grabbing weaponry comes in many forms, but typically look to prioritize negating and controlling over causing damage, with the exception of crushing weapons. They can also be utilized in collaboration with other weaponry, such as lifters, axes and hammers, or spinning discs.

Types of Grabbers[]

Throughout the evolution of BattleBots, grabbing weaponry has become a common method to dominate a fight and score valuable Control points in the event of a judges' decision.

Horizontal grabbers consist of arms or jaws which look to grip robots from both of their sides, seeking to control their opponents by limiting their options to escape. Examples include Rasta, Jaws of Death and Huggy Bear.

Vertical grabbers work similarly, but typically consist of a single arm which clamps down from overhead and can double up as a makeshift lifter under the right circumstances. Robots such as Karcas 2, SABotage

Robots which combine lifting weaponry with vertical grabbing arms are colloquially called lifter-grabbers. These have the ability to hoist an opponent off the floor entirely and force their team to relinquish control of their robot. Notable examples of lifter-grabbers include every version of Complete Control, Bite Force as it appeared in World Championship I, Overhaul and Claw Viper.

Crushers are a type of grabbing weapon which look to pierce and inflict damage upon opponents. These can either be horizontal or vertical crushers with a similar principle to their grabber counterparts, and are often powered by hydraulic systems. While Razer earned a reputation as a destructive vertical crusher in the earliest BattleBots events, few similarly-designed crushers followed, with Photon Storm, Petunia and Mohawk finding limited success. Mohawk notably also incorporated a flamethrower into the tip of its crusher, but struggled to pierce through thick armor.

As competitors have become better armored over time, crushers have typically become less effective, though modern era competitors such as Quantum are able remain competitive. The British team, which won King of Bots Season 1 with the similarly-designed Spectre, boasted a 4-0 Fight Night record during World Championship VII.
