Gear Crow[1] (alternatively spelt as GearCrow or Gearcrow) was a walking demonstration robot built by Donald Hutson of Mutant Robots which appeared at the partially-unaired BattleBots 2009 Championships.

A bipedal machine armed with hydraulic clamping jaws, its development was used by Mutant Robots to showcase an 'Experimental Battlemorphic' category proposed by Hutson. This would have entailed the construction of similarly-designed robots weighing between 150 and 1,000lbs.[2] Gear Crow's construction is largely undocumented, though the robot featured a number of hydraulic rams which powered both its legs and jaws. Its legs were partially armored in checker-plate aluminum.

According to a member of Triton Robotix (who fought in the Collegiate Championship with their titular 120lb robot), Gear Crow was used exclusively in demonstrations and required a modified engine lift to transport it. The member, named Allen, also revealed on a Penny Arcade discussion forum that he helped set up the enormous machine once it had been placed inside the BattleBox.[3]

A clip of the robot demonstrating its locomotion and jaws - operated from inside the BattleBox by Hutson - was briefly shown during break bumpers and the end of the first episode of the 2009 Collegiate Championship. As the remaining episodes - plus the concurrently-filmed Pro and High School Championships - were not released in their entirety, these marked Gear Crow's only known onscreen appearance in BattleBots.[4]

For a number of years, Gear Crow continued to appear in official BattleBots publicity material, with a photo of it being displayed on the official website until as late as March 2015.[5]

An earlier incarnation of Gear Crow was completed in 2004, featuring a similar purple, orange and silver color scheme and a weight of 826lbs, later increased to 900lbs. Gear Crow is believed to still be in Donald Hutson's possession.Citation?
