Foxtrot was a heavyweight robot from Team Danby which competed in BattleBots World Championship IV.

It was a four-wheel drive, fox-themed robot with a lifting head which could double as a self-righter. The side armor was made from 5160 steel, and its chassis was constructed from 5083 aluminum. Like its predecessor Predator, Foxtrot was relatively small and light compared to the rest of the field, weighing nearly 50lbs under the 250lb weight limit according to the Team Danby website.[1] Also like Predator, it struggled to find success in its one and only season, going 0-3 in Fight Night and ultimately failing to make the Top 32.

The robot was built by Craig Danby, who previously competed in the 2018 BattleBots season with Predator, in Series 8 and 9 of Robot Wars with Foxic, and as part of Apex in Series 10.

Foxtrot did not return to BattleBots after World Championship IV, with Team Danby opting to enter the more successful SlamMow! into future seasons of the show. Team captain Craig Danby confirmed in 2020 that he planned to convert Foxtrot into a coffee table, after gutting Foxtrot of useful parts to upgrade Foxic.[2]

"Foxtrot will be a coffee table, once its cleaned and polished it’ll take pride of place in my bonus room, once I figure out how to take a 250lbs robot up a flight of stairs."

Outside BattleBots[]

Craig Danby also competed in the 2018 Robot Ruckus event with Foxtrot, where it fought Mammoth. He would compete again in future Robot Ruckus events, but fought primarily with SlamMow!, though brought Foxtrot's predecessor Predator back as a second entry to the 2021 event.

World Championship IV[]

Foxtrot vs. Free Shipping

In order to test camerawork and lighting ahead of recording the 2019 season properly, Foxtrot took part in an unaired dress rehearsal fight against Free Shipping. According to Craig Danby, Foxtrot took the win.[3]

Foxtrot vs. DeathRoll

Foxtrot's first ever match was against the Australian entry DeathRoll. The vertical spinner got up to speed and Foxtrot initially tanked the hits, with sparks flying off the front of Team Danby's robot. After the second hit, DeathRoll was no longer moving near the killsaws. Foxtrot waited tentatively, but DeathRoll started moving once more and the fight resumed. Foxtrot took another hit, lost a piece of its wheelguard, and eventually stopped moving due to a radio failure.[4] Foxtrot was counted out, giving DeathRoll the win by a quick KO.

According to Craig Danby on Reddit, DeathRoll was immobile for longer than seen in the edited cut of the fight, and a count even began on the Australian bot. However, it regained mobility and one of Foxtrot's BECs (battery eliminator circuit) gave way soon after.[5]

Foxtrot vs. Mammoth

Foxtrot's next match was against Mammoth, a rematch from their encounter at Robot Ruckus in 2018. Foxtrot had the advantage right from the start, being able to drive around quickly and get underneath the giant bot, even pushing it around a bit and knocking a piece off the lifter. It did take a few hits, but was able to get away and continue its tactic. However, it drove straight into Mammoth's lifter and was repeatedly hit by the arm before eventually escaping. Foxtrot tried to push Mammoth again, but it suddenly stopped moving before raising its arm, and was then immobilized. Foxtrot was counted out, giving Mammoth the win by KO.

Foxtrot also competed in a rumble against Double Jeopardy and Daisy Cutter. The match was even to begin with, as nobody had could cause significant damage with their respective weaponry. Foxtrot managed to jam Daisy Cutter on top of it as Double Jeopardy fired and hit the front of Daisy Cutter, reducing itself to a pushbot in the process. Daisy Cutter was freed, and drove away. Foxtrot found itself stuck in a corner of the BattleBox, and after reversing all the way to the opponents, died near the blue square. Daisy Cutter then ground to a halt, before a count began. Double Jeopardy ultimately won the fight by double KO, pushing Foxtrot to 0-3 for the season.

"Five, six, seven, eight, you're about to meet your fate. There's no chance of advancing after this dirty dancing. Nobody puts botty in a corner! It's FOXTROT!"

"This bot will make you dance around the ring. It takes two to tango, but only one hit to take you to the floor. The jig is up, and he's gonna tap you out. FOXTROT!"

"You just got served! The dance-off is on, and you look scurred. It takes two to tango, but only one to make you go bang-o. It's FOXTROT!"
