Alcoholic Stepfather was a superheavyweight robot that competed in the final 2 seasons of Comedy Central BattleBots. It was a silver robot originally armed with a twin set of hammers as well as a wedge for Season 5.0. It was a very unique robot as it used mecanum drive which allowed it to drive sideways as well as forwards and backwards (aka 8degrees of motion), allowing it to always face its opponent. The team also had plans to use regular foam tires if they were unable to get the wheels from the machine shop in time.[1] It didn't perform well in BattleBots, losing both its matches. Alcoholic Stepfather fought at Steel Conflict for a few years after BattleBots ended, having moderate success after exchanging the hammers for a flamethrower.

A 250lbs rebuild of Alcoholic Stepfather was planned for Seasons 2 and 3 of the reboot. Aside from returning with its flamethrower and its iconic mecanum wheels, a single-tooth vertical disc spinner was to be added to its front wedge. However, the team found out that Alcoholic Stepfather's name was not allowed to be used on ABC television, which put a halt to their ambition to spend their money on getting the bot ready for the reboot.

The name was derived from when its control system was being finalized, it moved like someone that was drunk. It was also the most offensive name the team could think of that could be said in public.

Alcoholic Stepfather vs. New Cruelty

Alcoholic stepfather loses wheel

Alcoholic Stepfather loses a wheel against New Cruelty.

Alcoholic Stepfather's first match was against New Cruelty. Both robots went straight at each other and New Cruelty managed to remove something on Alcoholic Stepfather's front. Alcoholic Stepfather started hitting New Cruelty with it's hammers and New Cruelty started pushing Alcoholic Stepfather around the arena. As Alcoholic Stepfather tries to run away, New Cruelty repositions itself and charges straight at Alcoholic Stepfather. This shove from New Cruelty caused one of Alcoholic Stepfather's wheels to come off. New Cruelty pushed Alcoholic Stepfather against the spikestrip and Alcoholic Stepfather was hitting New Cruelty with it's hammers. For the rest of the match, New Cruelty kept pushing Alcoholic Stepfather against the spikestrip. The time ran out and New Cruelty won on a 26-19 judges' decision.

Alcoholic Stepfather gets under RoboLoco's bar

Alcoholic Stepfather's first match was against RoboLoco. The match was a fairly close one, with RoboLoco tearing off a wheel and one of the axes on Alcoholic Stepfather. However, RoboLoco's weapon belt broke apart and came off, disabling the bar and leading to a pushing match with Alcoholic Stepfather losing the other axe on its own, but gaining the upper hand by pushing RoboLoco with its wedge. Nevertheless, RoboLoco came out on top with a 25-20 judges' decision due to the damage it caused early on, eliminating Alcoholic Stepfather from the tournament.

After BattleBots, Alcoholic Stepfather was rebuilt to compete at further events. The new design still incorporated the mecanum wheel drive it used previous. However, the body was changed from a long rectangle to a wedge, and the weapon was changed to a flamethrower, something very rare at its time. This version of Alcoholic Stepfather would compete at RoboGames 2005 with little success, but it would compete in other events, scoring several wins.
