"We tried to achieve a balance between style and practicality."
— Fon Davis on Mouser Mecha Catbot

Mouser Mecha-Catbot was a lightweight robot built by Fon Davis which competed in every BattleBots competition that featured its weight class.

It was a pink dome-shaped robot with a flattened top, painted to resemble a cat. Its weapons were lifting forks, which lifted off to the side instead of upward like conventional lifters, a circular saw (which was blocked by the forks) and a rear spiked tail which functioned as an axe (for the 1997 US Robot Wars, the Long Beach event and Season 1.0, it had a saw at the rear of the body instead of the axe). Mouser went through numerous incarnations, starting with the original Mouser Catbot at Robot Wars in 1997. It then became Mouser Catbot 2001 for the Long Beach 1999 competition. After that, when Mouser took severe damage from Executioner, the robot was painted with a "cybernetic implant" for Season 1.0. This edition of the robot (as well as the Season 2.0 version) were called Mouser Mecha-Catbot. For Season 3.0, Mouser was renamed to Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot. For Season 4.0 Mouser was no longer painted with a "cybernetic implant" and called Mouser Classic Mecha-Catbot. Finally, for Season 5.0 Mouser was painted with hot-rod flames and no longer was armed with the saw blade. This edition was called Mouser Ultra Mecha-Catbot. Mouser achieved moderate success during BattleBots, making the Season 1.0 and 3.0 quarter-finals, but never got too far into a tournament.

In 2015, the chassis of Mouser Ultra Mecha-Catbot had Moebius' shell placed on it and fought Vlad the Impaler 2 and Sewer Snake's replacement Evil Plunger, but lost overall.

Mouser Mecha-Catbot even had its own theme song and CD, written by BattleBots music writer Eban Schletter and sung by Olivia Olson.

Mouser Mecha-Catbot would temporarily reside in Team Malice's shop, hanging on a wall, as seen in a May 2021 episode of the Skorpios Builder Blog[1]. It would be seen in a July 2021 episode of Tested with Fon Davis[2]. Fon Davis would later confirm in a 2023 Reddit AMA that Mouser is currently hanging on the wall at Fonco Studios[3].

Mouser Catbot 2001 vs. Shrike

MouservsShrike lb99

Mouser gets hit by Shrike.

Mouser Catbot 2001's first match was against Shrike. In the match, Mouser tried to flip Shrike, but couldn't due to the wide length of Shrike. Later, Shrike was hitting Mouser with its axe several times. Despite the axe not dealing damage on top of Mouser due its thin Lexan armor, Mouser suddenly stopped moving and was counted out. Shrike won the fight by KO and Mouser was now in the loser's bracket, where it faced Paranoid Android.

Season 1.0[]

Mouser Mecha-Catbot vs. Shaft

MouservsShaft sf00

Mouser lifts Shaft.

After receiving a bye, Mouser Mecha-Catbot went up against Shaft. Both robots moved slowly out of their squares and Shaft pushed Mouser against the spikestrip, while Mouser was trying to flip Shaft. Mouser drives away from the spikestrip and Mouser started flipping Shaft again. Shaft got its ramming plate stuck inside Mouser's flipping arm and managed to escape, before getting tossed by the killsaws. Mouser was being pushed by Shaft again and tried to flip it. Shaft accidentally got itself caught on the killsaws again and Mouser gets caught on killsaws moments after. After flipping Shaft from the front and side, Shaft pushed Mouser against the spikestrip and Mouser attempt to flip Shaft again. Shaft then got itself caught on the arena sledgehammer. Mouser was being pushed by Shaft again after Mouser opened its flipping arm and Mouser tried pushing Shaft toward the killsaws. Shaft escapes and pushed Mouser against the spikestrip before the time ran out. Mouser won the fight on a 6-3 judges' decision and advanced to the quarter-finals, where it faced No Tolerance II.

Mouser gets tossed by the killsaws while fighting Alpha Raptor.

Before the match began, Mouser blew its Co2 fitting, rendering its flipping arm inoperable. At the beginning, Alpha Raptor went straight at the hellraisers twice while Mouser slowly moved out of its square. Mouser was lifted by Alpha Raptor and was later tossed by the killsaws. Alpha Raptor drives over Mouser and then Alpha Raptor lifted Mouser again. As Alpha Raptor was lifting Mouser again, Alpha Raptor tried pushing Mouser onto the killsaws, but couldn't. Mouser escapes and tried to push Alpha Raptor soon after, before going straight on the killsaws again. After Alpha Raptor got caught on the killsaws, both robots were only nudging each other. Mouser was lifted by Alpha Raptor again and Mouser drove itself on the killsaws again. Mouser stopped moving after this impact and Alpha Raptor tried to lift Mouser again. Mouser was being counted out, but the time ran out before the count was finished and the match went to the judges. Alpha Raptor won the fight on an 8-1 judges' decision and Mouser was eliminated from the tournament.

Lightweight Consolation Rumble #2

Mouser also participated one of two consolation rumbles at the end of the tournament. After flipping Chiabot, Endotherm and Rott-Bott 2000 at one point, Mouser was barely moving before the time ran out and won overall with Sallad, Cereal Box Killer and Rott-Bott 2000.

Lightweight Royal Rumble

Mouser later came back in the Lightweight Royal Rumble and after getting its flipping arm through the spinning disc of Backlash, the time ran out and Mouser was declared the winner of the Lightweight Royal Rumble.

Season 2.0[]

Mouser Mecha-Catbot vs. Widowmaker

MouservsWidowmaker lv00

Mouser lifts Widowmaker.

In Mouser Mecha-Catbot's first Season 2.0 fight, it fought Widowmaker. The fight started with Widowmaker spinning its weapon and moving toward Mouser. Mouser pushed Widowmaker back and both robots moved away from each other. Mouser attacked Widowmaker with his pneumatic tail, slamming it into the floor. Mouser turned around and got its flipper under Widowmaker and tried to flip it. Widowmaker then escaped and Mouser tried to flip Widowmaker again. Mouser then got hung up on the hellraisers for a moment, then the bots proceeded to start pushing each other around. Widowmaker's spinning bar slowed down and Mouser got underneath Widowmaker and led it to the killsaws. The match ended in a pushing match and Mouser won the fight on a 26-19 judges' decision. This win put Mouser to the Round of 16, where it faced Sallad.

Sallad pushes Mouser under the pulverizer.

In the match, Sallad aggressively attacks Mouser and pushed it onto the killsaws. Both robots line up again and attack each other, but not landing many blows. Sallad begins to push Mouser around the arena, but Mouser gets its pneumatic lifting arm under Sallad and lifts it off the ground. Sallad escapes and attacks Mouser again. Mouser uses its pneumatic tail to hit Sallad a couple times. The tail then gets stuck on Sallad's motor and frame. Sallad then pushes Mouser under the arena pulverizer where Mouser is pounded repeatedly. Mouser was counted out and Sallad won the fight by KO at 2:45. This meant that Mouser was eliminated from the tournament.

Mouser also participated the Lightweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. It was one of few robots still moving in the end, but it lost overall to HammerHead.

Season 3.0[]

Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot vs. Blood Moon

MouservsBloodMoon sf01

Mouser attacks a flipped Blood Moon.

Due to previously competing in Season 2.0, Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 3.0, where it eventually fought Blood Moon. In the beginning, Blood Moon gets its wedge under Mouser and pushed it against the entrance ramp. Mouser then tries to hit Blood Moon with its tail. Blood Moon gets underneath Mouser again and pushed it against the spikestrip. Shortly after, Mouser escapes and Blood Moon gets hit by the pulverizer. Blood Moon pushed Mouser towards the killsaws, and sent Mouser flying. After Mouser got caught on the killsaws again and sent it flying across the arena, both robots were fighting around the arena piston. Suddenly after Mouser was hitting Blood Moon with its tail, Blood Moon got flipped by the piston and Mouser was hitting Blood Moon again with its tail. Blood Moon was counted out and Mouser advanced to the Round of 16, where it faced Trilobot.

In the match, Mouser pierces the top armor of Trilobot with its pneumatic tail and Trilobot stopped moving. Mouser pushed Trilobot around the arena with its flipping arm as Trilobot was being count out. Mouser won the fight by KO with only twelve seconds left and advanced to the quarter-finals, where it faced Gamma Raptor.

Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot vs. Gamma Raptor

Mouser is flipped by Gamma Raptor.

Both robots went straight at each other and Gamma Raptor took a small lift from Mouser. After Mouser was hitting Gamma Raptor with its tail at one point, Gamma Raptor got its lifting arm underneath Mouser and pushed it against the spikestrip. As Mouser got lifted by the piston, Gamma Raptor gets underneath Mouser, pushes it toward the rear of the BattleBox, bounces Mouser into a screw, and Mouser is flipped on its back. While Mouser struggled to self-right, Gamma Raptor pushed the flipped Mouser under the pulverizer and after several tense seconds of trying to relay the issue to the ref, Mouser was counted out. When the buzzer rang, the pulverizer continued to hit Mouser, even after the ref said to stop (much to Fon's anger). After two hits beyond the end of the match, Gamma Raptor won the fight by KO and Mouser was eliminated again.

Lightweight Royal Rumble

Mouser also participated the Lightweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. Most likely due to the previous match with Gamma Raptor, Mouser was only going in circles throughout the entire rumble. Despite this, Mouser was one of few robots still moving in the end, but it lost overall to Ziggo.

Season 4.0[]

MouservsSlapEmSilly sf01b 1

Both bots are tossed on the killsaws.

Due to previously competing in Season 3.0, Mouser Classic Mecha-Catbot was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 4.0, where it faced Slap 'Em Silly. Mouser drives straight into Slap 'Em Silly, but Slap 'Em Silly dodges. Mouser tried to flip Slap 'Em Silly with its flipping arm, but no luck. Slap 'Em Silly tries to drive its spike into Mouser's back, but Slap 'Em Silly drives right up the dome of Mouser and Mouser starts using the tail. Slap 'Em Silly escapes and positions itself. The two robots meet, side-by-side, and begin to turn in the same direction. Mouser tries to activate the flipping arm a couple times, but Slap 'Em Silly wasn't on its arm. Mouser got its arm under Slap 'Em Silly and activates it, but doesn't do much of anything to Slap 'Em Silly. Slap 'Em Silly tries to drive its wedge under Mouser's rear, but again, drives over the dome and into Mouser's tail. While Mouser was hitting Slap 'Em Silly with its tail, Slap 'Em Silly was pushing Mouser forward. Mouser turns around and Slap 'Em Silly slides off. Mouser fires its arm and Slap 'Em Silly tries to take advantage of the vulnerable front, but Slap 'Em Silly's wedge is higher than Mouser's dome. Slap 'Em Silly drives up onto Mouser and Mouser tries to flip it, but it just pushes Slap 'Em Silly off instead of toppling it. Slap 'Em Silly keeps trying to get under Mouser. Mouser's tail was briefly stuck in the seam between the wedge and body of Slap 'Em Silly. Mouser drives over the killsaws and Slap 'Em Silly got its wedge front high-centered on the side of Mouser. Mouser got away and Slap 'Em Silly was back on the BattleBox floor. Slap 'Em Silly drives onto the top of Mouser again, but again, Mouser couldn't flip it. Slap 'Em Silly drives around and teases Mouser into activating the arm again. When Mouser does, Slap 'Em Silly drives up and got itself in the way of letting the arm come back down. As Mouser was trying to escape, Mouser was caught on the killsaws. Mouser continues to try to flip Slap 'Em Silly and Slap 'Em Silly tries to push Mouser towards the pulverizer, but neither robot were successful. Both robots were separated and both robots moved to the middle of the BattleBox. Mouser tries another flip and misses. As Slap 'Em Silly tried to get underneath Mouser again, Mouser drives around the killsaws and a small chunk of the pink shell was sent flying to the other side of the BattleBox. Mouser got two successive lifts in on Slap 'Em Silly and Slap 'Em Silly pushes Mouser onto the killsaws. Both robots were tossed on the killsaws and Slap 'Em Silly got its spike jammed into the slot for Mouser's spiked tail. Slap 'Em Silly pushes Mouser onto the killsaws again before the time ran out. Slap 'Em Silly won the fight on a close 24-21 judges' decision and Mouser was eliminated from the tournament.

Mouser also participated the Lightweight Consolation Rumble at the end of the tournament. In the beginning, Mouser got hit by Whirligig's hammers and Scrap Daddy Surplus' ball and chain. After this, The Crusher got underneath the rear of Mouser and pushed it against the spikestrip. Mouser moved to the corner of the BattleBox and flipped Herr Gepoünden. Mouser started hitting the front of Skid Mark near the screws and Mouser moved to the center of the BattleBox. Dr. Inferno Jr. got underneath the left side of Mouser and pushed it against the spikestrip near the exit ramp. Mouser escapes and tries to flip UGV Scorpion, but it misses and Dr. Inferno Jr. pushed it into General Gau. After this, Dr. Inferno Jr. got underneath Mouser again and pushed it against the spikestrip. Mouser kept using its flipping arm and tried to flip LocoMotion, but it missed and drove itself onto Skid Mark's wedge. Mouser was moving around the BattleBox and it tried to flip LocoMotion again, but misses. Scrap Daddy Surplus got its ball and chain under the flipping arm of Mouser and it, along with Dr. Inferno Jr., pushed it against the spikestrip. With only a few seconds left, The Crusher pushed Mouser against the spikestrip and Mouser flips Scrap Daddy Surplus before the time ran out. Mouser was one of few robots still moving in the end, but it lost overall to The Crusher and Dr. Inferno Jr.

Season 5.0[]

Due to previously competing in Season 4.0, Mouser Ultra Mecha-Catbot was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 5.0, where it faced Tentoumushi 8.0. Tentoumushi 8.0 won the fight on a 29-16 judges' decision and Mouser was eliminated from the tournament once again.

As of 2022, it is unknown if Mouser Ultra Mecha-Catbot participated the Lightweight Consolation Rumble at the end of the tournament. Even if it did participate, it wouldn't come back for the Lightweight Royal Rumble due to an incident with Nightmare in the heavyweight consolation rumble which resulted in all the rumbles getting cancelled.
