With the immense popularity of BattleBots on Comedy Central, McDonald's secured a license to create and sell toys with Happy Meals between April 26 and May 23, 2002.

A total of eight robots were available - seven replica robots from the show, and a special custom design. Each robot was made of plastic, with active weaponry linked up to the toy's pullback drive. The robots were individually packaged, and numbered one through eight to identify each toy available in the set. Since these were only available for a brief period of time, these toys were limited in quantity and have thus become rare over time.

Chrome BB prototypes

In May 2020, an eBay listing revealed chrome versions of these Happy Meal toys, believed to be prototypes. According to Reddit user ResettisReplicas, the seller's husband was part of the development team for this particular McDonald's promotion.[2]
