Captain Shrederator is a heavyweight robot built by Team LOGICOM which has competed in every BattleBots World Championship on ABC and Discovery.

It is captained by Brian Nave, who previously competed in the Comedy Central era of BattleBots and Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors. Captain Shrederator's primary weapon, like most of Team LOGICOM's robots, is a spinning shell which doubles up as armor. In its debut season, Captain Shrederator was painted in the color of the American flag to pay homage to his entry in Robot Wars: Extreme WarriorsThe Revolutionist, which itself was a repainted Phrizbee.

Captain Shrederator WCI

The main advantage of Captain Shrederator is its 360 degree range of attack, but it has lacked a self-righting mechanism in all of its iterations. Depending on its opponent, Captain Shrederator could use different shapes and sizes of weapon teeth in order to get a better bite, as well as different shells entirely. Captain Shrederator also had a large bar which could be mounted instead of the shell for certain opponents. In World Championship I, it lost its one and only fight by knockout to Matt Maxham's Stinger: The Killer Bee after being stacked against the rails of the BattleBox.

Returning for World Championship II, Captain Shrederator was originally an alternate for the show, but was allowed in due a number of accepted teams having to drop out during filming. Aesthetically, the top armor was now adorned with a small shield similar to that of Marvel's Captain America atop a white background, rather than the distorted US flag from its 2015 appearance. It earned its first win of the ABC BattleBots era against Australian entrant DeathRoll, but lost its next fight to Chomp.

Captain Shrederator returned for World Championship III totally redesigned, with a more conical body and four large teeth for additional bite. The shell could now spin at a maximum speed of 152mph according to the show. Aesthetically speaking, the robot's name was now present around the circumference of the machine, and the top armor was now translucent. This version of Captain Shrederator struggled to back up its knockout victory from the previous season, failing to pick up a win in its three Fight Night battles. Brian Nave was noticeably absent from the team, lending the robot to son Nick Nave while he competed in China. Brian Nave did pick up a win for Captain Shrederator in the USA vs. The World special, but Team LOGICOM were already out of the main competition by that point.

For World Championship IV, Captain Shrederator sported several more subtle changes, including but not limited to its teeth being chamfered at the edges, as well as boasting thicker top plastic to protect it from overhead attacks. Captain Shrederator suffered four consecutive losses during the season, largely due to an issue concerning wiring which affected power to the robot. This issue was only diagnosed following the Desperado loss and the team did not have time to fix it, resulting in another poor season for Team LOGICOM.

Captain Shrederator World Championship V hero shot

The team worked hard ahead of World Championship V to improve Captain Shrederator so it would be more reliable, using a blend of proven old technology and new ideas, as well as boasting five shells in total. The team had converted to brushless drive and weapon systems, which has been proven to be successful in other spinner robots. The four wheels were chain driven, but each still had a dedicated motor. This allowed for additional redundancy in theory, and meant the workload would be more evenly distributed between the motors and speed controllers even if not all four wheels are on the BattleBox floor, or if a motor became damaged during a fight. Yet despite these upgrades, it still struggled with reliability and despite chalking up their first main competition win since the ABC era against Axe Backwards, Captain Shrederator was not chosen for the Round of 32 after finishing 1-2 overall.

"[...] I think that is the mistake many people make. They size their motors for all four of them to handle the weight of their ONE robot then when two of the wheels get picked up or another robot is sitting on one side of the robot they force two motors to do twice as much work as all four of them were sized for and that's what ends in smoked motors and smoked controllers."
— Brian Nave's theory on making the drivetrain more reliable ahead of the 2021 season[2]

Captain Shrederator again returned for World Championship VI, sporting thicker, opaque top armor. Team LOGICOM also confirmed two new configurations for Captain Shrederator. The first of which was called the "Killdozer of Freedom", consisting of a totally flat shell with two large square teeth either side. Notably, the shell only covered the upper half of the robot's height, with a thick red ring surrounding the lower half and static forks protruding from the front, doubling up as a directional indicator.[3] The second configuration was an upgrade on the "Wings of Freedom", which utilized the same square teeth on a more traditional sloped shell.[4] For the first time in its BattleBots career, Captain Shrederator completed the Fight Night rounds with a positive record, finishing the 2021 season 2-1, including a shock win over former BattleBots champion Tombstone. However, it lost in the main tournament to ROTATOR.

Captain Shrederator performed poorly in BattleBots: Champions I, losing in the first round to Ghost Raptor.

Following its best season to date, Captain Shrederator was confirmed to be competing in World Championship VII by Nick Nave.[5] Ahead of the season, Brian Nave hinted that the 2022 competition may be Captain Shrederator's last. Its Fight Night run began with a loss to the returning crusher Quantum, but it returned to winning ways against Jen Herchenroeder and HiJinx. Captain Shrederator was then involved in a brutal and controversial defeat to Riptide, which resulted in the entire chassis, shell and much of the electronics being scrapped.[6] Captain Shrederator then lost to JackPot to finish the Fight Night rounds with a 1-3 record.

Returning for BattleBots: Champions II, Captain Shrederator faced Bots FC and Emulsifier in the first round, losing by judges' decision.

Despite rumors of retirement, Nick Nave confirmed that Captain Shrederator would be redesigned from the ground up for World Championship VIII.[7]

Shrederator (Tiger Claw) in King of Bots Season 1

Shrederator Tiger Claw during This is Fighting Robots.

While Nick Nave was at the helm of Captain Shrederator during World Championship III, Brian Nave competed in This Is Fighting Robots under the name Shrederator Tiger Claw. Essentially an earlier version of Captain Shrederator painted black and given a tiger theme, the robot retained its modular nature. It found mixed success in China, winning its first two fights before losing in a rumble, and then to John Reid and Gabriel Stroud's Tánshè, who would later pair up to compete in BattleBots with Beta. It advanced to the top 8 and beat Team MAD's Vulcan but lost its semifinal and third-place playoff matches, finishing fourth overall.

Shrederator Tiger Claw returned for the second season of Chinese robot combat show King of Bots. Despite its strong outing in This Is Fighting Robots, Team LOGICOM failed to win a main season fight in King of Bots II. However, it maintained its spot on the team of Huang Jian Xiang, the eventual winner of the competition, and thus was crowned as a co-champion. Oddly, when each presenter's teams are choosing their pecking orders and eyeing up opponents, the card print-off is quite clearly Captain Shrederator from BattleBots, as opposed to its Shrederator Tiger Claw guise for King of Bots II.

Captain Shrederator vs. Stinger

Captain Shrederator's BattleBots debut came in World Championship I, where it took on Stinger: The Killer Bee.

Stinger vs Captain Shrederator WCI 1

Captain Shrederator tears a chunk out of Stinger's front tire.

The fight commenced with Captain Shrederator getting its shell up to speed as Stinger approached. Captain Shrederator met it head-on, bouncing upward and landing on top of the six-wheeled robot, tearing a chunk out of one of its tires.

Stinger vs Captain Shrederator WCI 2

Captain Shrederator loses some teeth.

Stinger again drove plow-first into its opponent, which sent Brian Nave's robot careening across the BattleBox, first into the screws, then the rails and finally the paddle. Stinger attempted to get underneath Captain Shrederator and charge it into the wall, but Team LOGICOM's robot slipped free and Stinger drove head-first into the trails instead. However, Captain Shrederator deflected into the corner and lost several teeth in the process.

Stinger vs Captain Shrederator WCI 3

Stinger capitalizes on a motionless Captain Shrederator.

Captain Shrederator then appeared to slow as it bounced off the plow of Stinger, which allowed Matt Maxham to take full advantage. Stinger slid its plow underneath the inactive shell spinner, driving forward and hoisting Captain Shrederator over.
"Well Brian [Nave] said, you know, the biggest threat to him is the arena itself... OH, look at this! Stinger may have taken Captain Shrederator out!"
— Kenny Florian as Captain Shrederator is thrown over

Stinger vs Captain Shrederator WCI 4

Stinger attempts to keep the fight going, but Captain Shrederator is counted out.

Without a self-righting mechanism, a count began on Captain Shrederator, despite Stinger's best attempts to get its opponent back onto its wheels again. Stinger took the win by knockout and Captain Shrederator was eliminated after just over a minute.

Although this fight was only highlighted during Episode 2 of World Championship I, it was uploaded in full to the BattleBots YouTube channel.[8]

World Championship II[]

Captain Shrederator vs. DeathRoll

Captain Shrederator's first match was against the Australian newcomer DeathRoll.

BB2016DeathrollHitCptShred

DeathRoll is hit by Captain Shrederator.

The rookie bot charged at Captain Shrederator, which did not immediately spin up. DeathRoll turned in the red square, allowing Captain Shrederator time to get its shell up to speed as it waited patiently in the center of the arena.

DeathRoll Captain Shrederator

DeathRoll and Captain Shrederator collide.

Captain Shrederator hit the front of DeathRoll before landing a shot to its back end. The next attack tore much of DeathRoll's tail away and the weapon-on-weapon collision which followed ripped off more of its decorative armor.

As DeathRoll looked to recover, it became clear the repeated attacks had affected its vertical spinner, which was no longer spinning. Captain Shrederator closed in again, removing DeathRoll's right front wheel before sending it spinning into the screws.

DeathRoll's primary weapon suddenly got back up to speed, but there was little life from the rest of the robot. Captain Shrederator's final hit saw DeathRoll become high-centered on its own shell, and it was counted out soon after by referee Michael Ayers.

DeathRoll was counted out and Captain Shrederator took the win by knockout in under a minute.

Captain Shrederator vs. Chomp

Despite a destructive win in its first outing of the 2016 season, this was only good enough for the No.20 seed in the Round of 32. There, it took on Zoe Stephenson and the No.13 seed, Chomp.

ChompvsCaptShred BB2016

Both robots approached and started attacking without doing much damage. This continued until Chomp toppled over from one of its attacks and allowed Captain Shrederator to hit it. Chomp self-righted and attacked back, leaving Captain Shrederator spinning down and not moving. Chomp continued to attack and managed to get Captain Shrederator going again. However, this was short-lived and Captain Shrederator stopped moving. Chomp managed to once again restart Captain Shrederator, but this time held back when Captain Shrederator stopped moving again as one of the axe blows from Chomp punctured the top, causing the power cable to come out when the shell came around. Captain Shrederator was counted out and Chomp won by knockout, eliminating Team LOGICOM from the competition.

End Game tosses Captain Shrederator onto its back.

Returning for the 2018 season, Captain Shrederator's first opponent was the New Zealand entry, End Game. The match was off to a good start for Captain Shrederator as it was able to start getting its weapon up to speed while End Game found itself struggling to advance forward. However, Captain Shrederator was not at full speed and took a hit from End Game that knocked out the spinning shell's ability to rotate. Still, Captain Shrederator continued to attack, even though it was under the pulverizer and took a hit. Unfortunately, it was unable to defend itself and was launched by End Game onto its top on the edge of the screws and unable to move. Captain Shrederator was counted out and earned its first loss of the competition.

Captain Shrederator vs. SubZero

Captain Shrederator's next opponent was SubZero. Due to damage sustained against End Game, Captain Shrederator swapped out its shell from that fight with a 2nd one and exchanged pretty much all the electronics in an effort to fix the problems it had against End Game. When the match began, things were off to a good start as Captain Shrederator was dealing damage on the back of SubZero, whom was trying to absorb the impacts that way. After multiple collisions, SubZero was overturned and self-righted. However, the last hit caused Captain Shrederator to fly into the arena barrier and bounce off to land upright without any drive. As a result, Captain Shrederator was counted out, giving SubZero the win by knockout.

Next for Captain Shrederator was the Dutch crusher, Petunia. The match began rather poorly for Captain Shrederator as their first attack wasn't able to cause any major damage and the blow was deflected away. Captain Shrederator attack again, this time, spinning its opponent nearly 360 degrees. However, the third attack caused Captain Shrederator to bounce off of Petunia and into the arena wall, where it stopped moving. Making matters worse, its opponent bit down with its beak and caused smoke and flames to pour out. Captain Shrederator was counted out, giving Petunia the win by KO.

Captain Shrederator's next match was in the USA vs. The World special where it was pitted against Vanquish, who had been previously ripped in half by Icewave. The match started fairly evenly as Captain Shrederator was causing lots of sparks, but the only damage was the removal of the googly eyes Vanquish had added for the fight. Captain Shrederator ended up in the corner and bounced off the walls before escaping to get back up to speed. Once again, Captain Shrederator was on the attack, but not really dealing much damage. However, Captain Shrederator eventually sent Vanquish flying, tearing off a wheel in the process. Vanquish was no longer moving after this hit and was counted out, giving Captain Shrederator the win by KO after 2:30.

World Championship IV[]

Captain Shrederator vs. Wan Hoo

Captain shrederator vs wan hoo

Wan Hoo and Captain Shrederator come to blows.

Up first for Captain Shrederator was newcomer from China Wan Hoo. As a result, Captain Shrederator went with its shell that was more cylindrical with lots of teeth around the perimeter. When the match began, Captain Shrederator was able to deliver big hits to Wan Hoo, tearing part of the defensive shields added to the Chinese robot before the fight. Wan Hoo appeared to struggle to move, so Captain Shrederator moved in for another hit. As the match continued, Captain Shrederator delivered another hit and then stopped showing movement itself. With its shell spinning at top speed, Captain Shrederator was counted out, giving Wan Hoo the win by a surprise knockout.

Captain Shrederator vs. Witch Doctor

Shrederator Witch Doctor

Captain Shrederator next went up against veteran Witch Doctor. Captain Shrederator stuck with the shell used against Wan Hoo but when the match began, Captain Shrederator was the one to take the hits and flew into each wall of the arena. Worse still, their directional indicators kept shutting off at times, making it difficult to make proper attacks. Captain Shrederator got its weapon back up to speed and again collided with Witch Doctor to hit the arena sides. On the third hit, Captain Shrederator's weapon was unable to reach top speed which left it vulnerable. Witch Doctor took advantage of this and Captain Shrederator was flipped over near the screws. The Nave family's bot took hits from the pulverizer as they were counted out, and Witch Doctor took the win by KO.

Captain Shrederator vs. Black Dragon

With Captain Shrederator was currently at 0-2, Team LOGICOM entered the Desperado Tournament to try and make the Top 16 bracket. Entered in as the sixth seed, this put them in a match against Team Uai!rrior and the No.3 seed, Black Dragon. In response, Captain Shrederator went with the shell used in its previous two matches. As the match began, both robots got their weapons up to full speed. Captain Shrederator dished out two minor hits that didn't do much, but then dished out a big hit that sent both robots flying to opposite ends of the arena with Black Dragon ending up with a gash on the left side of its wedge and getting flipped upside down. Black Dragon got back over and Captain Shrederator was having drive issues, but was still able to spin the shell. Captain Shrederator took a hit from Black Dragon that slammed it into the wall and knocked some of its teeth off, leaving it with very little life mobility and having its weapon stopped completely. This left them pretty much defenseless as they took a final hit that knocked them out. Captain Shrederator was counted out, giving Black Dragon the win by KO and pushing Team LOGICOM to 0-3.

Captain Shrederator vs. Blacksmith

Still winless after the Desperado Tournament, Captain Shrederator was next placed against Al Kindle and Blacksmith. Captain Shrederator went in with its flat shell that had many embedded teeth around the perimeter. In addition, two large triangular teeth were added to shield the robot's top from Blacksmith's hammer along with thicker Lexan. Things were pretty even to start as Captain Shrederator was dishing out the hits but neither robot was taking any damage. Captain Shrederator was then pushed into the arena barrier and taking fire from Blacksmith's hammer. Captain Shrederator escaped but Blacksmith was on them and pushed them to the screws, which briefly trapped them. Captain Shrederator soon lost the use of its spinning shell after being pushed under the pulverizer. With little offense and defense, Captain Shrederator was at the mercy of Blacksmith and was eventually taken back to the screws and flipped over. Captain Shrederator got off the screws, but was still upside-down and was counted out, giving Blacksmith the win by KO, confirming a winless 0-4 season for the Naves.

World Championship V[]

Captain Shrederator vs. Lock-Jaw

Capt.Shred

Captain Shrederator is taken to the screws.

After receiving its internal upgrades, Captain Shrederator's first fight was against former Desperado champion and semi-finalist, Lock-Jaw. The match was off to a good start as Captain Shrederator quickly took off the right corner of Lock-Jaw's anti-spinner plow. However, Lock-Jaw spun up its weapon and Captain Shrederator started to take big hits, including one that sent it high into the air and into the screws. Captain Shrederator recovered and tried to spin back up, but smoke began to pour out due to the pin for the brake coming out, locking it and preventing the shell from spinning. Due to it being near the arena barrier, this allowed Lock-Jaw to move in. Captain Shrederator was let out of the corner, but without its shell spinning, it was totally at the mercy of Lock-Jaw. However, Lock-Jaw had also lost the use of its weapon, but still had control with its front forks, leaving Captain Shrederator to take more punishment. After some quick maneuvering to avoid being controlled by Lock-Jaw, Captain Shrederator was taken to the screws, where it became stuck and its drive wheels were off the arena floor. Captain Shrederator was counted out, giving Lock-Jaw the win by KO.

After repairing the damage, Captain Shrederator was next up against fellow Floridian, Axe Backwards. Captain Shrederator spun up and attacked, doing only minor damage. Captain Shrederator launched Axe Backwards into the screws, then had to face its opponent's wedge configuration several times before it was able to dig into its opponent's tires a bit. After going basically up and over its opponent, Captain Shrederator was able to start attacking the wheels more definitively. Finally, Captain Shrederator was able to rip off one of Axe Backwards' wheels and Axe Backwards stopped moving. Axe Backwrds was counted out, giving Captain Shrederator the win by KO. Afterwards, Captain Shrederator's shell continued spinning for 40 minutes due to an identical problem Invader had in 2016, forcing everyone to wait until the battery ran down before the robot could safely be turned off.

Captain Shrederator was in its third and final match of the Fight Night season, where it went up against Adam Wrigley and Shatter!. Captain Shrederator started off strongly, tearing off bits of Shatter! and sending them flying across the arena. After a particularly big collision that affected both robots, Captain Shrederator wasn't dishing out the big hits it was known for and ended up hitting the casing for the screws. Afterwards, Captain Shrederator began to emit smoke and its shell spun down. This left them very vulnerable and they started to take hits from Shatter!'s hammer. There was little for Captain Shrederator to do but drive around and hope for Shatter! to stop working. Time ran out with Captain Shrederator's top damaged and Captain Shrederator barely working and the judges awarded Shatter! a unanimous 3-0 decision.

Alongside competing in the fifth season, Captain Shrederator also took part in one of the six Bounty Hunters tournaments, with the potential to face off against Bronco in the bracket it was placed in. To do that, their first battle took place against the remodeled Sharkoprion, better known as Sharko by this point. Captain Shrederator went in and delivered a hit to Sharko's front. After delivering a big hit that sent both bots to opposite ends of the box, Captain Shrederator tore off Sharko's tail fin and completely disabled its opponent. With Sharko motionless, Captain Shrederator went in once more to cause more havoc. Sharko was counted out, giving Captain Shrederator the win by KO.

For the next round of the tournament, Captain Shrederator was up against Victor Soto and ROTATOR. Immediately, Captain Shrederator was box-rushed by ROTATOR, but managed to evade the attack. As both weapons got up to speed, Captain Shrederator was charged by ROTATOR and sent crashing into the screws, losing a tooth in the process and becoming slightly destabilized. Captain Shrederator continued to hang on and go in for weapon-to-weapon collisions with ROTATOR, sending each bot flying across the BattleBox. Shrederator managed to strike and almost flip ROTATOR, then landed another shot which almost knocked over ROTATOR again. Both bots continued to trade shots as Captain Shrederator was pressured and sent into the screws by ROTATOR. Continuing to show its durability, Captain Shrederator caught the wheel guard of ROTATOR and sent it wobbling across the arena floor. Captain Shrederator rushed forward, bashing into ROTATOR and sending it flipping high into the air, but miraculously landing upright again. As the match drew on, Captain Shrederator started smoking and its shell powered down with one minute left in the fight. Captain Shrederator continued to take shot after shot as ROTATOR began chipping away at Shrederator's shell, but it remained standing. At the end of the fight, Victor Soto stated he could see smoke coming from ROTATOR, which he predicted might've come from the weapon belt. Both robots managed to survive to a judges' decision, which was ruled unanimously in ROTATOR's favor, eliminating Captain Shrederator from the tournament.

Captain Shrederator and Tombstone share the BattleBox for the first time in the BattleBots reboot.

Tombstone captain shrederator ko

Captain Shrederator watches on as Tombstone burns and is counted out.

Returning for the 2021 season, Captain Shrederator's first opponent was against former Giant Nut winner Ray Billings and Tombstone, a fight Brian Nave had wanted for several years. Both bots spun up to begin the fight as Captain Shrederator ducked away before landing a glancing shot on Tombstone's front. With the next few shots, part of Tombstone's blade had come away and it began emitting sparks from its left-side drive. With the next impact, Tombstone popped up and started smoking, which quickly turned to fire after a barrage of quick impacts. Unbalanced, another coming together disabled the blade of Ray Billings' bot. However, despite the additional redundancy on Captain Shrederator's weapon, it too had now come to a halt. With a well-documented history of unreliability in fights they were often on top of, Ray Billings sensed the fight had evened out and continued to attack, despite still being on fire. It appeared to stop in the middle of the BattleBox momentarily, prompting Ray to question its mobility, but escaped a count. As Tombstone rode over Captain Shrederator one last time, it suddenly stopped. Much to the delight of Team LOGICOM, Tombstone was immobile and was counted out, earning Captain Shrederator a statement KO victory.
"So, now you're probably wondering why we stopped spinning? Well, the shock from one of the weapon to weapon hits actually blew up one of our receivers. All robots are programmed to have a failsafe if the robot loses signal to the transmitter - so, failsafe turns on and tells the speed controllers to turn spin off."

Captain Shrederator vs. Gigabyte

Captain Shrederator is counted out.

Fresh off a shock win over a former BattleBots champion, Captain Shrederator's second opponent was fellow shell spinner, Gigabyte. For this fight, Brian Nave's team opted for the "Wings of Freedom", consisting of a sloped shell and two large square teeth high up on the bot. Captain Shrederator appeared to be getting the best of the early exchanges as a few glancing shots from Gigabyte saw John Mladenik's machine pop into the air, while Captain Shrederator remained grounded. With both bots spinning at full speed, Gigabyte recovered and it became apparent that Captain Shrederator was no longer able to drive. Gigabyte landed a hit on its stationary opponent which saw it ricochet off the arena barrier and into the Upper Deck. Its shell ground to a halt and Captain Shrederator was counted out, putting both robots to 1-1 for the season.

In a televised post-match interview for the losing team, Brian Nave revealed that the issues causing his bot to stop dead concerned a faulty receiver.

Captain Shrederator vs. Jäger

Captain Shrederator is hassled by both halves of the multibot.

Last up for Captain Shrederator was an untelevised fight against Jäger. For this fight, Team LOGICOM again opted for their Wings of Freedom configuration. In the opening seconds, Captain Shrederator danced around both halves of Jäger before delivering a hit which sent Toe Kicker flying across the BattleBox and separating its undercutting bar. Arm Muscle then got underneath the shell of Captain Shrederator, biting down with its articulated saw but only slicing into their opponent's UMHW plastic top armor. Arm Muscle backed off, allowing Captain Shrederator to escape. However, it found itself coerced into the corner and unable to spin up to any great speed, taking a shot from the Jäger team's pulverizer. Captain Shrederator was then allowed the time to spin in the center of the arena and punted the weaponless Toe Kicker around before turning its attention to Arm Muscle, who had one side of its drive disabled. Captain Shrederator remained aggressive and hit Toe Kicker again, which knocked it into the wall and killed it completely. With the remaining half of Jäger unable to show translational movement, it was counted out, and Captain Shrederator delivered one final hit to leave its mark on the match. Captain Shrederator won by knockout, advancing to 2-1 and finishing Fight Night with a positive record for the first time in its modern BattleBots career.

Captain Shrederator vs. ROTATOR

Rotator captain shrederator s6 2021

ROTATOR leaves Captain Shrederator under the pulverizer.

Advancing to the knockout tournament for the very first time, Captain Shrederator was given the No.27 seed and faced off against No.6 seed ROTATOR in a rematch from BattleBots: Bounty Hunters. Captain Shrederator used its traditional shell for this fight and tanked the first few impacts with ROTATOR's new plow. ROTATOR then showed its undercutter to Captain Shrederator and popped it into the air before switching back to their plow. After tanking a few more hits in the hope of destroying Captain Shrederator with its own weapon, one of the shell's teeth was torn away, leaving Brian Nave's bot unstable. After ROTATOR came back in with the undercutter, Captain Shrederator bounced backwards into the Upper Deck, tearing the housing for the screws and losing its second tooth. Captain Shrederator ricocheted towards the pulverizer powered by Victor Soto's team but was no longer mobile. As ROTATOR positioned its opponent beneath the hammer, Captain Shrederator was counted out, putting an end to a much improved tournament run from Team LOGICOM.

Captain Shrederator vs. HUGE (Exhibition)

Captain Shrederator Mauler Dance exhibition 2021

Captain Shrederator performs a Mauler dance.

Captain Shrederator would fight once more in the 2021 season, in an exhibition fight against HUGE. For this battle, Team LOGICOM fitted the robot with its "Wings of Freedom" shell to hit higher up on HUGE's Tegris wheels. Captain Shrederator got its new shell up to speed as HUGE gingerly approached, spinning its own weapon downwards. Early on, it could only land glancing blows on HUGE's wheels before sending it spinning away. HUGE balanced on one wheel momentarily, which flexed as Jonathan Schultz's bot struggled to correct itself. HUGE eventually landed and quickly switched the direction of its spinning blade. Captain Shrederator attacked again and HUGE deflected into the wall, but was largely unharmed. HUGE then landed an uppercut to Captain Shrederator which sent it to the Upper Deck. On impact with the hazard, one of Captain Shrederator's UMHW top panels buckled upwards, and the subsequent attack on HUGE's right wheel saw one of its square teeth tear away. This left Captain Shrederator unbalanced as it shed more parts, though it was still able to peel some of HUGE's tread away from the wheel. Captain Shrederator suddenly unbalanced as it approached HUGE, emulating the move commonly attributed to Mauler from Comedy Central BattleBots. Upon slowing down its weapon, Captain Shrederator landed upright and evaded its opponent, throwing HUGE towards the corner of the BattleBox as it narrowly avoided the pulverizer. HUGE continued to reign blows upon Brian Nave's bot, which had to be careful not to unbalance itself again. HUGE delivered a big shot which sent both robots to different ends of the arena, though it was Captain Shrederator who appeared to have come off worse as it was no longer driving. The referee began a count on Captain Shrederator, who was still spinning in place but showing no signs of translational movement. Captain Shrederator unbalanced again with four seconds left, almost flipping itself over in the process. Referee David Sanfilippo paused his count, continuing once it was evident that the robot had not regained drive power. HUGE took the win by knockout and Captain Shrederator's season ended with a loss.

Captain Shrederator vs. Ghost Raptor

Ghost Raptor Captain Shrederator BB Champs

A flaming Ghost Raptor goes after Captain Shrederator.

Returning for BattleBots: Champions I, Captain Shrederator faced a fellow veteran in Team Raptor and Ghost Raptor, who had miraculously repaired the robot after its devastating loss to Cobalt earlier in the competition. In the first minute, Ghost Raptor rammed Captain Shrederator with its wedge, effectively preventing it from spinning up. However, an attack from Ghost Raptor saw its own weapon bar fly away. Unfazed, Ghost Raptor continued with the aggression, pushing Captain Shrederator into the path of the pulverizer and not letting it spin up, Captain Shrederator did get out of the short corner before spinning up for a hit, landing a blow on Ghost Raptor's wedge before being stopped by Chuck Pitzer's bot again. Ghost Raptor ran Captain Shrederator onto the killsaws for the last few seconds having dictated much of the fight, leaving it in the hands of the judges. Despite losing its primary weapon, all three judges voted in favor of Ghost Raptor, and Captain Shrederator fell at the first hurdle.

Captain Shrederator vs. Quantum

Captain Shrederator's wedge configuration.

Captain Shrederator opened its World Championship VII campaign with a fight against the returning Quantum. For this encounter, Captain Shrederator was fitted with a wedge attachment at the front.

Captain Shrederator Quantum grab 1 wcvii

Quantum bites into Captain Shrederator's shell.

As the fight began, it was Quantum who attempted the box-rush, forcing Captain Shrederator to drive into the wall as it escaped. Although the shell was spinning, Brian Nave's bot was cornered and bounced into the barriers again, halting its weapon. This allowed Quantum the opportunity to attack, and the British bot slid its front wedge under Captain Shrederator. It carried the shell spinner to the pulverizer, which landed several blows, and clamped down again. Quantum drove Captain Shrederator across the BattleBox this time, using its speed to chase down its opponent as Brian Nave attempted to drive his robot away from danger. However, it found itself in the same corner as before. Quantum bit down again, sinking its fangs through the UMHW cover as well as its aluminum frame underneath. Captain Shrederator was picked up and driven across the length of the arena once more, as Quantum took it to the screws and then the short corner. Its dominance continued, ramming Captain Shrederator into the barrier nearest the drivers' booths before sending it to the screws of the Upper Deck.

From then, it became evident that Captain Shrederator's primary weapon had been disabled from its opponent's repeated attacks. Keen to win by knockout, Quantum bit down, sinking its fangs into the top of Team LOGICOM's bot once again. As it charged across the BattleBox, Quantum raised its head and lifted Captain Shrederator off the floor, allowing the screws on the opposite end of the arena to chew against its baseplate. With little offense of its own, Brian Nave was unable to drive away before Quantum gripped it, its teeth crushing vital internal components. As the teeth pieced the shell on this occasion, it caused an audible popping sound. Quantum dashed across the arena, ramming Captain Shrederator into the arena again as a fire began to erupt from within the shell spinner, suggesting heavy damage to its internals. With one final clamp, smoke began to emit from Captain Shrederator and it was mercifully counted out.

Nick Nave confirmed via Reddit that Captain Shrederator's speed controllers prevented it from spinning up to full capacity, as they did not provide sufficient torque.[9]

Captain Shrederator vs. HiJinx

Captain Shrederator's second fight came against HiJinx, and it was armed with a four-toothed shell for this bout.

HiJinx Captain Shrederator WCVII

Both robots collide.

Initially the match was not going smoothly for Team LOGICOM. In trying to evade the bar of HiJinx, Captain Shrederator drove straight into the screws on the Upper Deck, and they stopped spinning. Though it quickly recovered and drove back to the middle, its opponent was able to land a hit on them with the bar, which in turn also ceased function.

Dazed from the blow, Captain Shrederator crashed into the near right corner next to the opponent's pulverizer before getting pinned by the tail of HiJinx on the far right corner. HiJinx tried to spin its bar again but failed, so it released Captain Shrederator. The two robots met back in the middle, where Captain Shrederator all of a sudden spun back up and landed critical hits on HiJinx. Soon after, the opposing team lost mobility and was counted out, with less than a minute left on the clock.

Captain Shrederator achieved the KO and strode into the next match with a 1-1 record.

Captain Shrederator vs. Riptide

Captain Shrederator's third Fight Night opponent was the previous season's co-Rookie of the Year, Riptide.
"In order to win this fight, we've got to stay away long enough to build up momentum. If he hits us with his weapon, it's possible we're gonna go flyin'. Hopefully we'll be spinning fast enough to stay flat, because of gyroscopic procession. If we’re spinnin', as we go up in the air, we'll go straight up and straight down. If we're not spinnin', we'll flip over and flop on our back, or spin a thousand times, who knows, but it won't be pretty! So hopefully we'll be spinnin', and if we're spinnin', we're winnin'!"
— Brian Nave

Riptide vs Captain Shrederator (WCVII)

Riptide destroys the shell of Captain Shrederator.

Immediately, Captain Shrederator darted out of the blue square to the top-left corner. After a moment's hesitation, it dodged Riptide, only to bump into a nearby Upper Deck screw in the process. Captain Shrederator, recovering, attempted to outdrive Riptide while rebuilding momentum for its shell spinner. However, it was catapulted across the BattleBox by the first hit from Riptide's eggbeater, landing opposite the control booth. Sparks flew as Captain Shrederator clipped the front-right wedge of Riptide in its escape.

Riptide Captain Shrederator WCVII 2

Riptide plays with Brian Nave's bot.

Positioning itself over the killsaws, Captain Shrederator exchanged another weapon-on-weapon blow, momentarily throwing Riptide off balance. Sparks flew from beneath the machine as it maneuvered out of the top-left corner and prepared to face Riptide once more. Through this collision, Captain Shrederator lost a large red tooth from the shell, which was sent clattering against the outer Lexan enclosure and skidding across the floor. Captain Shrederator was sent buffeting across the inner perimeter by two hits from Riptide - a third threw it into the air and onto one of the screw mounts behind the blue square.

Riptide Captain Shrederator WCVII 3

The final attack on Captain Shrederator.

Captain Shrederator toppled upon landing, with the Team LOGICOM machine now inverted. Riptide - despite Ethan Kurtz initially stating that he would not do so – kept attacking Captain Shrederator in this position. Captain Shrederator had its baseplate warped and parts of its shell ripped off as it was sent hurling into the bottom-right wall and pulverizer. As the shell kept spinning, it was able to free itself from the wall, but in doing so steered into Riptide's eggbeater. These next two attacks re-righted Captain Shrederator, now effectively high-centered on its own mangled baseplate. Even with this, Captain Shrederator was immediately attacked by Riptide once again, being thrust up against the bumper following two more hits from the latter.

Logicom

Team LOGICOM attempt to dissuade Team Break32 from continuing to attack their damaged machine.

These events prompted members of Team LOGICOM - including Brian Nave and driver Jonathan LaPlain - to try and dissuade Team Break32 from damaging their machine even further. Even so, as Captain Shrederator freed and balanced itself using the gyroscopic forces of its shell, Riptide continued to slam, tear and punt it into the bottom-right corner. Captain Shrederator recoiled upon hitting the top of the inner Lexan shield, having almost been thrown out of the arena in the process. Upon landing, it sustained a final hit which caused electrical sparks to fly from inside the robot. Coming to rest against the spiked bumper, the Team LOGICOM machine was finally left alone as Riptide proceeded to throw a piece of its removed top armor across the BattleBox. A count-out was initiated by Kathryn Godfrey, marking a highly controversial knockout loss for Captain Shrederator after one minute and nine seconds.
Nick Nave: "A lot of unnecessary damage, by the way."
David Sanfilippo: "I know. We've warned [Team Break32] already."
Brian Nave: "They don't care, they don't care."
— Team LOGICOM raise an official complaint concerning Riptide's excessive attacks

The remains of Captain Shrederator leave the BattleBox.

Immediately following the fight's conclusion, Team LOGICOM raised a complaint to fellow referee David Sanfilippo, who informed them that a warning had already been issued to Team Break32 for the "unnecessary damage" they caused.

Shrederator pits post Riptide WC VII

The heavily-damaged Captain Shrederator returns to the pits.

Though clarifying that Captain Shrederator's weapon remained under full control - which in turn convinced Team Break32 members that it was still mobile - they later revealed that Riptide's attacks were enough to leave it with around $10,000 worth of damage. Most of this was found to be irreparable, with Team LOGICOM only having battle-damaged versions from previous seasons as spares.[10][11]

Captain Shrederator vs. JackPot

Now sitting at 1-2, Captain Shrederator's fourth and final Fight Night match saw it being drawn against Las Vegas representative, JackPot. In terms of filming order, this took place only one day after its loss to Riptide. With the existing 2022 build already written off, Team LOGICOM needed to rebuild Captain Shrederator from scratch in order for it to still compete, along with a win to seal a Top 32 place.[11] Such was the damage inflicted to it that the team were almost forced to forfeit the match, with repairs still being carried out by the time JackPot was originally prepared to enter the arena. However, a scheduling change allowed Captain Shrederator to participate in its rebuilt form.[12]

Jackpot vs Captain Shrederator WCVII 1

Captain Shrederator comes under attack from JackPot.

During the first three seconds, Captain Shrederator hesitated to move out of the red square as JackPot charged towards it. It then darted to the right into the bottom-left corner. The Team LOGICOM machine ricocheted off the spiked bumpers into JackPot's spinner, struggling to move clear before taking a second hit to the shell. Captain Shrederator zig-zagged its way out of and back into the corner, with JackPot continuing to give chase. Again, Captain Shrederator hit the bumper, causing the entire shell to stop rotating. This left it vulnerable to more attacks from JackPot, which caught the white, red and blue machine under its wedge while lightly clipping the shell.

Jackpot vs Captain Shrederator WCVII 2

JackPot takes a chunk out of Captain Shrederator's shell.

After both machines separated, Captain Shrederator absorbed two further blows from JackPot's "Heartbreaker" spinner, the impacts sending sparks flying each time. Again, both robots broke free, though Captain Shrederator continued to drive into the bottom-left bumper and paddle, and in turn sustain more hits from JackPot's primary weapon. Once the Las Vegas machine retreated to the center of the BattleBox, it gathered momentum within its spinning shell, using it to exchange a massive weapon-on-weapon blow with JackPot. Recoiling back into the bottom-left corner, Captain Shrederator next attempted to nudge JackPot back as the latter began to initiate another counter-attack.

In this sequence, Captain Shrederator was gingerly maneuvered towards the red square and into the bottom-left bumper, all while taking more blows from JackPot's "Heartbreaker". It found itself pinned against the bumper, during a moment where neither robot's spinners were rotating. Upon being released, Captain Shrederator attempted to escape once again, but was quickly rounded up and attacked by JackPot yet again, as its base chassis experienced major steering problems. JackPot continued to batter Captain Shrederator across the perimeter, with Captain Shrederator also getting hit by the blue team pulverizer at one point.
Kenny Florian: "...and one of those shots might have damaged Shrederator's directional system, Chris. They keep driving themselves into walls, almost like their controls got flipped!"
Chris Rose: "Well, whatever the case, Jeff Waters has been surgical so far."
— As JackPot pressures Captain Shrederator across the lower perimeter of the BattleBox

Jackpot vs Captain Shrederator WCVII 3 pin

Captain Shrederator is pinned in the corner by JackPot.

As the battle approached the 1:30 mark, Captain Shrederator unsuccessfully attempted to escape the bottom-right corner, instead driving into a mount for one of the blue square screws. This allowed JackPot to slam and lift it against the neighboring paddle, while lightly clipping its shell with a second hit. Captain Shrederator, bumping into the mount a second time, took another glancing blow from JackPot while shuffling erratically. This shuffle gave JackPot the opportunity to strike Captain Shrederator once again. Captain Shrederator sat next to the killsaws, before attempting to dodge another charging attack from JackPot. However, it could not avoid this attack, getting lifted up, destabilized and sent recoiling into the screw mount as a result. Captain Shrederator richocheted into the left-hand side of JackPot, though without inflicting any apparent damage, before shuffling across the center of the BattleBox. From that point, it was deflected again by JackPot - this time into an Upper Deck screw - before being steered towards and pinned against the bottom-right bumper.
"...take a look at JackPot's blade. Something doesn't look right. If they can't get that weapon up to full speed, Shrederator still got more than a puncher's chance here."
— Kenny Florian, sensing an opportunity for Captain Shrederator to capitalize on JackPot's weapon issues

Jackpot vs Captain Shrederator WCVII 4

Captain Shrederator gets up to speed in the red square.

Like before, both machines separated, though Captain Shrederator again struggled to move controllably beyond the arena perimeter. However, this moment gave Captain Shrederator the time to spin up the shell, using it to inflict a glancing blow to JackPot's wedge. Seconds later, JackPot responded by hitting and throwing Captain Shrederator into the red square screws, tearing a large chunk out of the shell in the process. Captain Shrederator retreated at first, now wobbling violently as a result of the weight imbalance now present in its damaged weapon. Regardless, it continued to exchange blows with JackPot, while being rounded up and deflected into the bottom-right corner once more.

"Hit up, hit up, let's go, baby!"
— Jonathan LaPlain, moments after Captain Shrederator survives a damaging hit from JackPot

Jackpot vs Captain Shrederator WCVII upper deck

Both robots duel near the Upper Deck.

Pushing its removed tooth aside, Captain Shrederator flew up JackPot's wedge in the next exchange of attacks, where it continued to survive its opponent's weakening spinner. Even then, it was still deflected, pushed and rammed by JackPot until the final ten seconds, during which it shuffled around across the top-right killsaws and hellraisers. At the last second, it dodged a final charge from JackPot, ultimately surviving to a judges' decision.
"...JackPot was the more aggressive bot from the get-go. And again, Jeff Waters did a nice job of controlling Shrederator, by pinning it and not letting it get spun up. Now, if the judges believe Shrederator disabled JackPot's weapon, that'll score them big time damage points, but I still think this one goes to the Las Vegas locals."
— Kenny Florian shares his assessment of the battle

The decision unanimously ruled in favor of JackPot, ending Captain Shrederator's Fight Night run with a 1-3 record.

Captain Shrederator vs. Malice (Exhibition)

Captain Shrederator fought in a single exhibition match against Malice as part of Vengeance in Vegas II. It was again armed with its "Wings of Freedom" shell configuration for this battle.

Malice vs Captain Shrederator VIV2 1

Captain Shrederator sends Malice into the corner.

Neither robot was quick out of its starting square as they allowed one another to spin up to speed. Malice faced Captain Shrederator, but it was Brian Nave's robot which was first to make contact, brushing against the front of its frame. After a suspenseful few seconds, Captain Shrederator then struck Malice and threw towards the corner of the arena.

Malice vs Captain Shrederator VIV2 2

Sparks fly as Malice attacks the shell of Captain Shrederator.

While Malice recovered quickly and got its weapon back up to speed, this impact halted Captain Shrederator's spinning shell, reducing it to a rambot for the remainder of this exhibition fight. Malice looked to attack but bounced up the sloped shell of Captain Shrederator before becoming free. Captain Shrederator then appeared immobile over the killsaw slots, leading to Malice knocking it free to continue the fight. It then buffeted against the motionless shell before striking its side, resulting it the Team LOGICOM robot becoming stuck over the slots for a second time.

Malice vs Captain Shrederator VIV2 3

Malice rides up the shell of Captain Shrederator.

The now sluggish Captain Shrederator was largely defenceless against Malice's assault as it was nudged underneath the pulverizer and took several hits from the hazard. But as Malice drove into Captain Shrederator with its weapon powered down, Bunny Liaw's bot rode up the sloped shell and became high-centered with both drive wheels off the BattleBox floor.

Malice vs Captain Shrederator VIV2 4

The fight ends with neither robot able to show mobility.

Brian Nave's team tried to free both robots by activating the nearby pulverizer on their own robot, but to no avail. There was insufficient time for a double count-out to begin, and Malice won the eventual judges' decision.

BattleBots: Champions II[]

Captain Shrederator vs. Emulsifier

Returning for BattleBots: Champions II, Captain Shrederator fought Bots FC and Emulsifier in Round 1 of the penultimate Sin City Slugfest bracket. The shell spinner was fitted with its "Talons of Freedom" five-pronged attachment for this battle.

Pvjyassprzvb1

Captain Shrederator deflects off Emulsifier's wedge.

Captain Shrederator got up to speed as Emulsifier approached, opting to strike without fear and buffeting the shell of Brian Nave's robot. As it gave chase, Emulsifier bounced back and slammed its disc into the steel floor before twisting through the air, ultimately landing upright.
"Near disaster there for Emulsifier, but Matt Bores being very aggressive early on!"
— Chris Rose

Captain Shrederator Emulsifier BB Champs 2

Emulsifier struggles for mobility, but Captain Shrederator shows reluctance to engage.

Emulsifier charged towards Captain Shrederator again, who kept its forks pointed at Matt Bores' robot and prevented it from striking the shell again. Captain Shrederator drove away but hit the spiked rails and ricocheted across the arena. In the meantime, Emulsifier's drive appeared compromised as Chris Rose questioned the mobility on its left side.
Chris Rose: "I don't know if it's stuck on the killsaw slits or not, but something is going on with those treads..."
Kenny Florian: "I don't see that left side of Emulsifier working there as far as the treads go."
— Chris and Kenny assess Emulsifier's mobility

Captain Shrederator Emulsifier BB Champs

Both robots duels in the corner.

With Captain Shrederator at full speed, it drove over the killsaw slot and towards Emulsifier, but seemed hesitant to attack its opponent. Referee John Remar instructed both teams to engage, in line with the new rule introduced ahead of World Championship VII.

As Emulsifier arced its way to point at Captain Shrederator again, the shell spinner eventually made contact with its front plow. It retreated once more before striking Emulsifier again. Leading with its rear, Captain Shrederator hit Emulsifier for a third time and bounced it into the corner. However, this attack cost Team LOGICOM power to their primary weapon as the fight past the halfway mark.
Chris Rose: "Here's the thing. Shrederator can move, but has no weapon; Emulsifier has got a weapon, but cannot move!"
Kenny Florian: "And this is why we were calling for Brian Nave to try and finish off Emulsifier when he had the chance."
— Chris Rose summarizes the situation while Kenny Florian laments Captain Shrederator's inability to capitalize earlier in the fight

Captain Shrederator Emulsifier BB Champs 3

Captain Shrederator takes a hit from the killsaws.

Without its weapon, Captain Shrederator could do little more than nudge Emulsifier, who still posed a threat with its vertical spinner still active. Matt Bores edged its opponent toward the killsaws, which were now active in the final sixty seconds, which sliced into Captain Shrederator's underbelly. Emulsifier landed several more glancing blows to the shell of Brian Nave's bot in the closing moments.
"Spin it up all the way. We gotta show function..."
— Adam Wrigley instructs Matt Bores to show functionality to the judges as the final seconds tick down

The fight went the distance, and all three judges voted unanimously in favor of Emulsifier. This meant Captain Shrederator was eliminated in the first round of BattleBots: Champions for a second successive year.
